Why do the first few pages of early berserk chapters look weird compared to the rest of the art?

I’m pretty sure back then these pages were colored but the scans did black and white may be wrong tho, I heard that from a few other people

This makes the most sense, I did think they looked colored too but I didn't know why a colored version isn't posted anywhere

splinteridiot

It was coloured when it release on a magazine would be my guess.

They also were painted on canvas compared to pen and ink on paper. Sadly never been included in a volume release

MissAsgariaFartcake

Some of them are initially colored but some of them are charcoal drawings, which I didn’t know at first. It’s cool to thing that Miura really sat down with ink and charcoal canvas and stuff to experiment a little

Made by hand. Not much money. Start of career. Lack of technology.

DayoftheDread

Berserk was “made by hand” until the conviction arc I believe, his original manga was leagues ahead of others at the time, and lack on money makes you work harder. These scans were of colored pages, nothing more nothing less
