Outsiders looking in: Opinions on names

Not a really significant place then?
That name has a somewhat complicated history. Long story short, the people of Insignificantia have a history of insurrection and defiance towards the empires that have attempted to dominate them. When the region was given autonomy the people chose the name "Insignificantia" in reference to political farce that is their countries history as relatively unimportant geographical, social, or strategic region repeatedly out lasting globe spanning empires.
Out of universe, Insignificantia is one of many references to Halo in my writing.
A little more significant than I thought. So detailed history though, congrats!
Ardor (Ar•Door) *my first thought is something to do with trees. it has simultaneously a feeling of magic and brute force.*
Lupei (Loo•Pay) *werewolf/canine comes to mind. grasslands or prairies? maybe a thick forest…*
Neu Vahl (New V•All) *what happened to Old Vahl? Vahl sounds like Vale.*
Insignificantia (In•Sig•Nif•I•Cant•E•Uh) *evil team headquarters*
Yden (E•Den) *norse mythology? tree? beginnings and endings*
Valur (Val•Ur) *norse myths again. kinda gloomy yet heroic*
Maré (Mar•E) *sea or horse? a port city, perhaps, or one in a bareen desert.*
Solhalla (Sol•Hall•Uh) *valhalla? another desert city. im thinking ancient midwestern native americans*
Paradiso (Par•Uh•D•So) *idk why but it sounds mexican. sunny, very colorful?*
Ressorgir el Sol (Res•Or•Gir El Sol) *that one half-abandoned ghost town*
Neo-Haven (This one is easy) *Haven take two*
Cathedra Uno (Cath•E•Dra Eu•No) *very spiritual city with a defining landmark?*
Marínéi (Mar•I•Nay) *ocean, Kinda remote, a barren environment?*
Man, those are actually shockingly accurate predictions.
Ardor is both a (historically) dominant player on the world stage, and the spiritual mecca of the modern world.
The Lupi are Oecumenica's (The primary continent that my setting is based in) equlivent of Romani or traveling Jews, with a strong cultural emphasis on rugged individualism. Lupei is a city state, twinned to Neu Vahl, both were founded during the Year Zero migration crisis.
Old Vahl was destroyed in the Year Zero incident along with most of the western hemisphere. Vahl is short for Vahlen, which where actually the VAILens in early drafts of this setting, weirdly good guess on that one.
The people of Insignificantia aren't evil, but they are extremely goth, cities of marble buildings layed out in the pattern of a graveyard, black clothes, taxidermy, the works. Real pretentious group of folks.
Yden is the primary setting, and served as the capital of the Ecumenica Hegemony during the "God" wars, its the closest to a central location for the setting. It also is home to the Mausoleum of Yve, shrine to the dead "goddess of justice" and royal palace of the Ydenese Regent.
During the war the Valuran peoples entire culture was dedicated to maintaining the sovrenity of Ecumenica as Yve's chosen lands (and, on a political level, the borders of the Ecumenican Hegemony, the authority of the Regent, and the will of Ardor's church). Valuran blood was the grease in the Ecumenican war machine.
Maré is what you imagined Paradiso being: Mexican/SoCal inspired, where the women are beautiful, the beer is plentiful, and the beaches pristine... at least on the west coast. The north is impassable jungle, the south unending desert, and the east is shelacked by hurricanes on a monthly basis.
Solhalla is desert city, former capital of the Soli Empire and seat of the "god of life & death" Sol during his tenure as the Regent-Eternal of the Empire. A city of Sol's chosen children, his finest, most loyal servants, picked to act out his grotesque policy of eugenics and biological manipulation; all an attempt to create his vision of a perfect people.
Now it's a freelove comune/hole in the ground full of gender-less, family-less, penny-less, and often clothes-less queers, detested as sub-human mutants by their less open minded neighbors.
Ressorgir el Sol are the remnants of old Soli, an attempt by the Martell people to take the reigns of their homeland away from the Solhallan invaders of the north, their Maréchal dogs, or the traitorous, nihilistic death worshipers of Insignificantia. Now they're the boot, sticking it to their old masters.
Neo-Haven is a new addition the the Union, formerly a city within the borders of Ressorgir el Sol. Haven stood as an important port city in Southern Soli, but the cities increasingly multicultural heritage caused a political rift to form between pro-Union natives and the insular, xenophobic ReS government. The natives political will eventually won out Neo-Haven was founded from the lands of the old city and satalite towns.
Marínéi is a oceanfront city state wedged between southern Maré, western Ressorgir el Sol, and northern Insignificantia. The eponymous Marínéi people are multi-ethnic, largely descendents of Navy deserters that banded together to create a 'Pirate Republic' during the War Era.
While the Union doesn't officially recognize any city as its singular capital, Cathedra Uno is very much its unofficial capital. A city state like Neu Vahl, Lupei, and Neo-Haven, and Marínéi, but where each of those were created to give a homeland to an otherwise stateless people, Cathedra Uno was created to serve as a "city on the hill". A model community, built from the ground up to adhere to Unione values of multiculturalism, pacifism, municipalism, and environmentalism.
not bad, seems rather mediterranean. people from the Commonwealth spell things more asian, specifically east asian or south asian depending on what region your from. for example, names like Tsuzuki and Kagamatori
