Oh no! What made so much of Africa & western Asia uninhabitable?
Climate change unfortunately
Wait, how the heck did climate change render the entirety of Africa uninhabitable?
a 3-4 degree increase in global temperature will cause drastic changes to the world. its not 100% uninhabitable, especially in western asia there are a lot of small communities in pockets, but there arent any nations of any sort in control of the area, its simply not worth it. Giant solar arrays are the only maintained industrial structures left there, with governments and corporations paying tech nomads to fix them as they wander scavenging the old cities.
In the spirit of constructive criticism - no way a 3-4 degree rise would make that much of a difference. Not by a long shot. If you want so much to be ininhabitable, maybe consider adding an additional element to your explanation.
You would be surprised what such a small change can do to an ecosystem.
The entirety of western asia + the whole of africa aren't a single ecosystem. They vary significantly in terms of temperature/agriculture/water etc. I am Israeli and yes, sure, a 3° rise in temperatures could make things hard, but there are plenty of examples of much harsher temps where people live. So I don't buy it.
Speaking of being Israeli, u/Ok-Range2354
kinda weird that that you chose to delineate the west bank, given that it's all supposed to be one big uninhabitable mess.
But can Poland go into space?
They don't have access to their own space elevator but they make use of frances
It's just not believable... I mean who in their right mind would listen to anything Ohio had to say?
Jkjk cool map
What happened to germany?
What did we do this time?!
france pulled an uh oh during the resource wars
How could they do this? We're friends!
(As a german i obviously have quite the opinion on that, my apologies)
at the time germany was less of a functional state and more of a collection of city states, so it was less of a matter of friendship i suppose
Reeee, we shall rise again, we just need another mother of the state 😂
Who started the third world war?
I sincerely doubt nuclear weapons would ever be used so freely
Also, why does the United States think it is in a place to invade China after a crippling plague, why does it send so many forces that it can’t concievably defend itself, and why is China in a place to invade *through Alaska* after losing its own country, and why on earth does the United States think that slaughtering its own civilians is any kind of way to preserve itself?
Like yeah, you’d get most of the invaders, but utterly nobody in the United States would feel safe with your government in charge.
they had already lost the united states, and at the time the US was under the control of a deeply corrupt military.
BIG Bering Strait
How hte fuck did Argentiina and Chile survive hte end.
the main reason south america was abandoned was due to megastorms and high temperatures, argentina and chile were far south enough to have avoided most of that.
Southern Argentina is a dry cold windy steppe already.
wtf happened to Finland... ;-;
I feel like everyone is looking for their own country on the map lol
Senegal is doing good I see.
not just senegal! what was left of the african governments came together to reforest that section of the desert, creating sustainable arcologies there. its far from a paradise, as the heat is blistering and corruption is an omnipresent fact of life, as well as the slums surrounding the arcologies tarnishing their beauty, but it is what it is. a lot of work has gone into enriching the soil there so that plants can grow
Glad to see Ohio's doing alright, all things considered.
Wow, someone invaded Australia, now they have ten thousand square kilometers of a desert.
Did France find a way to revive Napoléon amidst all the chaos?
context: In 2040 WW3 broke out due to a degenerative man-made virus being simultaneously released in the western USA and western Russia simultaneously. Due to the highly infectious nature of the bioweapon the US and Russia bombed effected areas heavily, and when that didn't work resorted to using nuclear weaponry on their own citizenry. The global repercussions from these last ditch measures spiraled out, until tensions grew to the point of all out war. the US, already being devastated by climate change and the repercussions of utilizing nuclear weaponry against their own people, threatened the nuclear option against Russia, who were looking at empire building. China has a civil war in the middle of tensions rising up, as their government splits into two bodies, one wanting to liberalize the economy further and one wanting to have a second cultural revolution. countries pick sides, and the US sends in their military. a protracted war takes place, as china becomes a battleground, and eventually china is taken by the American forces. but Alaska and most of Canada, as well as the remnants of western America. have been sized by the Russian and Chinese militaries. having overcommitted their forces to china, the Americans could only watch as their country was taken. The order came to fire their nuclear weaponry upon the foreign forces in the US, and the soldiers followed their orders. eventually, the news came that western US, most of Canada, and Alaska had been devastated by nuclear weaponry. the eastern states of the US, already in turmoil due to climate change inducing terrible storms upon their shores, began fighting over the remaining territory, with ohio coming out on top and claiming much of the land left over, but most of it was not worth much anyway. the EU collapsed, and city states formed pacts and fought petty wars over resources, the small states in the russian quarantine zone being remnants of these resource wars. in indonesia, a communist party takes over, and they begin taking over whats left of northern oceania and polynesia. the US, now the neo-patriot sino-confederacy, a brutal military dictatorship controlling much of east asia, having no troops to spare to stop them.
Now, climate change and wars have devastated much of the world, but humanity still clings on to life, society has been rebuilt, and order, of a sort has been attained.
antarctica, due to climate change, is beginning to become welcoming to the human physiology, with temperatures being comfortable but cool in the hospitable zones. settlements and corporate investments are beginning to pop up over there, but it isnt particularly developed yet.
What state are the nations in now? Have they developed a decent level of technology following the war or is it something akin to fallout?
Its more similar to cyberpunk than fallout. society definitely still exists, it just is pretty oppressive
Oh cool. Is that a common theme for all the nations or are some more Liberal than others?
Never seen anyone use the idea of parts of Antarctica becoming habitable land after an apocalypse, interesting concept.
I also like the idea where much of the world is stuck in a sort of apocalypse setting, while other countries just carry on business as usual.
I think there's a lot of interesting ideas here, but sadly the map is just a little flat and boring, maybe find other ways to spoce it up and make it more engaging?
yea its a really ugly version I whipped up on photoshop, as I refine my ideas, rework stuff using the feedback ive got here and figure it out i'll make new maps, and work on my photoshop skills to hopefully make a better map
Well I'm looking forward to seeing them!
