I am becoming less and less pro gun every time something like this happens man, every single other country in the western world has essentially solved gun violence, we are the only major country in the world that has this level of death going on. Why can’t we do what every other modern country on earth has done?
Because we have decided to live in the 10th term of Ronald Reagan permanently for some reason and have an entire populace (boomers) that dwell on 80s nostalgia and reflect on this in their politics. I understand that America has generally been more conservative than the rest of the Western world owing to its isolation from world events, but it’s getting fucking ridiculous. These are issues that have been solved since then in like the mid 90s throughout the developed world. This shit should have been solved ages ago when like Columbine happened, if not way before. At least we got the 94 Crime Bill. Clearly it didn’t go far enough.
Pro-gun arguments are usually based off of hypotheticals. Something something “what if a criminal had gun and you didn’t have a gun, what would you do?” It’s bullshit. Countries with enforced stricter firearms regulations have less crime. This is a fact. I’ve had 2 friends in this country involved in shootings before. One of their high schools had TWO consecutive shooting incidents just a few weeks apart. One caught in crossfire and randomly shot at while out in the evening. These incidents are real and affect people, and can destroy people’s lives. I am lucky as to not have been involved in any gun-related incidents so far. America needs to step the fuck up and stop this unique crisis in an apparently developed country. I get that shooting with your rifle for sport or practice is fun. But criminals are using the relatively easy access to these weapons to wreck our country. Let’s start putting America to First World standards instead of letting it become a shithole. 85% of known firearms used in mass shootings since 1982 were obtained legally. Stop making up hypotheticals about this shit. The data is against it.
The constitution ALSO gives us the Bill of Rights, in which the 2nd amendment states:
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I'm pretty pro-gun, but there are two policies that make a lot of sense to me that would stop this:
\- Safe-storage laws, at least in one form or another, that would extend criminal liability to someone who acted in a negligent way that resulted in some kid getting a gun and murdering someone. Obviously no blank checks, it would have to be well written, but I don't see why this isn't a good idea.
\- Red-flag laws, which allows you to petition a court to take away someone's guns if they're a direct danger to people around them. Evidentiary standards are naturally very high, meaning this genuinely gives law enforcement a chance to intervene if something is actually wrong.
No, we just use our guns to shoot the mentally ill people. America will always be an armed society, and I'd dare argue that it's not the gun ownership that makes people kill. I'd dare argue that America is an unhealthy society rife with crime, poverty, and mental illness, and maybe that's why people kill each other. Also, mass shootings make up such a tiny percentage of shooting deaths, most shooting deaths are inner city crime.
When the first major story of the news cycle this year was 20+ dead in a school shooting you can’t just say it’s all inner city crime. This doesn’t happen like this in other developed countries. Conservatives love to talk about how poor and crime filled California is, but it has [less gun deaths](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_death_rates_in_the_United_States_by_state) (per capita) than your average Deep South red state. You don’t think gun control has any role in that?
1. I don't care what the "First major news story" was, I care about stats on shootings. Most shootings are done in inner city especially black communities.
2. It doesn't happen in other developed countries because they're healthier, better societies (most of the time)
3. The data you've given me includes suicides, which skews the data immensely.
So yeah, I don't think gun control has any role in that
Lmao entire states as outliers, but I'll continue further. Notice how Kansas, Iowa, Utah, and Idaho have better rates compared to Maryland, New York, Illinois, and California. Notice how in the county maps, it's sure as hell not the responsible gun owning counties with the highest rates in the South. Why is almost every county in Nebraska (rural, gun owners) green while Omaha is yellowed? We don't have a gun problem, we have a poor people crime problem.
I do support the 2A but there is no reason why anyone needs to own an AR-15. They were banned for like a decade already. Why does nobody remember that?
The AR-15 is the most popular gun in America. It’s versatile, user-friendly, and customizable. It’s not the best in any one thing, but it’s a great Jack of all trades firearm for hunting, home defense, and range shooting.
I sold mine a few years ago when I got a Bergara B-14, Ruger Mini-14, and a CZ Bren 2, but the AR-15 is useful for those who can’t afford a more varied arsenal.
It depends on the gun control. We already have background checks and what not. My question is, what constitutes an assault rifle for the purpose of the ban? I know Canada had an assault weapon ban tabled that under their definition of an assault style weapon would have confiscated several shotguns popular in sport shooting.
I'm not joking. If one removes USA from the dataset as it looks to be an outlier than there is no observable correlation between gun rates and homicide rates.

The math nerd in me recognizes that gun ownership is the problem.

what of "shall not be infringed" do you guys not understand!
I seriously couldn't care less
Okay Mitt
With the US as one outlier, this data literally shows no correlation.
Do you know how to read a chart (serious question)
I thought you where beign serious then I recognized your name,
I am? Look at the data in the bottom left (aka all the data except one) There is no correlation.

The constitution gives the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. Not “AK-47’s, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”

But when one right infringes on a more important one, are you letting the kids die or keeping automatic rifles away from insane people and teenagers?

Notice how California, New York, and Illinois have worse rates compared to New Hampshire, Wyoming, Maine, and Nebraska.
Me when outliers

But the constitution literally gives the fucking right own a gun???????
If one right prevents another, which are you picking?
Yeah man that line is totally in the constitution…
I do support the 2A but there is no reason why anyone needs to own an AR-15. They were banned for like a decade already. Why does nobody remember that?
I want to own whatever weapons politicians protect themselves with

Cool, we need laws like Canada
But muh freedumb!
As Cobiuss pointed out, there is literally no observable correlation between guns per capita and homicides per capita. What's your point exactly OP?
Are you joking? I litteraly can't not tell
I'm not joking. If one removes USA from the dataset as it looks to be an outlier than there is no observable correlation between gun rates and homicide rates.
