If they're geriatric then I find it adorable.
Basically the younger the person saying it is the less I appreciate it. If a 20-something tried using a pet name like that I'd assume I was being mocked.
It's a pretty common thing in the South. We don't mean anything weird by it. Just trying to be nice. But if it makes someone uncomfortable I won't continue to do it.
I say it sometimes to random women, mainly because they do something kind for me(holding the door, handing me something, or any random act of kindness) I haven’t had any bad reactions, you just gotta be careful how you use it
There’s something about an older black woman calling me “baby” or “sweetheart” that just makes me melt. I’m grew up in the south so this is a common occurrence
It depends on the context. Some people use darling or sweetheart as appellations, and contrary to popular belief, most people i met that used them are women. I never had a man calling me any of those, but half of the women around me.do. The british ones especially.
A barista at my local Starbucks calls me hun. I find it weird, but mostly because she's easily ten years younger than me, and that feels like something you'd say to someone younger right?
Not common around here. If I was in the southern US or certain parts of England or whatever, I'd try my best to accept it as a cultural difference. But it makes me uncomfortable.
On some level it feels insincere, patronizing, or even manipulative to me, although I know that's not the intention most of the time.
I hate it…I moved to Louisiana for about 5 years and in the location I was in, someone would call me love at least once a day. It makes me feel like it devalues the severity of love
When older woman do it, it's cool.
Hate it

Weird. Pet names are acceptable only if you know the person.
Love it. I'm a sexy man.
👍😂😂😂
I don't mind. I am a sweetheart
feels good.
Don't care

I get it, sometimes you're just used to speaking that way and it comes out.
I like it.
My friends black mother call my suger ..... And it makes me feel comfortable
Or "buddy". shudder
If it's a southern woman or elderly woman it's cool, if it's a twenty/thirty something dude from the Bronx that's sus as hell
Confusing. They obviously don't know me.
it's condescending and I hate it
As a man, it feels slightly weird, and i cannot imagine how awful it must feel when a creepy dude calls a woman "sweetheart"

If my pet doesnt care why should I
I like it myself

I don't mind, if they are female. If they are men, it's creepy.
