When I'm out in the black doing an exploration run I'll settle down on a landable body when I'm done for the evening. I do the same thing, shut down everything except life support then step outside to check the exterior.

AmbassadorSugarcane

Ah nice! Yep yep, same on planets too. Except I usually leave shields and sensors on since I'm usually in the bubble. Though that's still just for RP as I obviously don't have to worry about contacts while I'm not playing. Sometimes I'll do it in orbit as well where I like to boost and FA-off before killing thrusters so I silently drift in orbit. Shame it's stationary next time I hop on.

Samboni00

I only check my hold because of cargo limits and then unload limpets because I forgot about them, again.

AmbassadorSugarcane

I swear those limpets regenerate!

I run VoiceAttack and will tell it to run diagnostics before and after each take off. I like your idea of doing a full shutdown though and will probably implement it.

AmbassadorSugarcane

Oh that's awesome! Kinda wish voice controls were an option on Xbox, but who knows...maybe I'll actually be able to use my copied PC profile someday. But I'm glad I could share the idea! Now it's all the more reason to run that diagnostic to confirm everything booted properly ;D

The PC world would love to have you, CMDR. Do you do anything special as far as checks for when you're starting back into the game? Or starting a different ship? I've considered doing something like a preflight checklist like they do in IRL aviation. I've had a handful of times where I get back into the game and forget what my ship was setup for, then something important is turned off at an important time.

How’s your internet connection? With a good connection you ought to look into GeForce Now to get that PC profile goin!

Buizel51

I don’t do this, but I truly understand where you’re coming from. I wish most games would be a little more realistic in this sense. Early Elite Dangerous (back in Alpha/Beta) had a feature where you could turn off/on your power supply, except for your Life Support running on some sort of back up. That’s why I love the engine whirring up noise when taking off from a planet.

AmbassadorSugarcane

>That’s why I love the engine whirring up noise when taking off from a planet. Ohhh that's a satisfying one, every single time. When I made my first planetary takeoff after Horizons dropped I was only expecting the softer hiss from the vertical thrusters. I was *SO* pleased to hear that windup!

xOsibis6

I do not, but I kinda love this idea and might just have to implement it myself!

Nice one CMDR! I do similar but sometimes I do "camp" in space by exiting supercruise and other times enter a stable orbit of a nice planet or moon. Bring speed to zero, check & repair all modules as may be necessary...walk back to the back of ship with a window view overlooking the planet and stars and have a coffee then go to bed, especially nice is the king size on the T10! :-)
