Your day 5 was my favorite day of my whole trip. So don’t skip it. The east fjords were beautiful and the drive to Seyðisfjörður was incredible. The hikes in the National park from Egglistadir were also amazing.

I’m similar in age, interest and activity level. We did 2 weeks in Sept. happy to share my itinerary if you want to cross check against it. Feel free to message me.

Can I get a copy too? We are going in 3 weeks and would love to compare and adjust my plan!! Ty

Can you share me your itinerary? My friends and I (4 of us) are going this September. And we are absolutely happy to get some insight before we go :)

thanks, sent you a DM!

Not taking out, but adding to. If you stay in Hveragerdi, you should add Reykjadalur to your list.

TjiddevippenSweden

thanks! Do you mean the hot springs, or is there anything else you think of?

Alacho

The hot springs, yes. But also nice hikes. :)

We had a similar 11 day trip last year in late July. It looks like you have a lot of outdoor activities planned, which is good and a lot of fun. The biggest weakness to consider is have 1-2 indoor backup options at each location. If part of your day/entire day is rained out, which will happen, how will you take advantage of that time? You can check out local museums, cafes, restaurants, shops, etc. Just be prepared, so you don’t have to spent a bunch of time there deciding what to do or where to go.

TjiddevippenSweden

Thanks for that comment. Very good thoughts. i will add a bunch of indoor places each day. I have a list of café's and restaurants as well. We will try to eat lunch on a budget, but having it as an activity is great if (when!) it rains. Thanks again!

I would just throw out, it’s maybe worth not trying to pack too much in to each day. I was just visiting with my wife who is pregnant and I think normally we would’ve tried to do much more, but due to the pregnancy we took a pretty chill approach. The added time really allowed us to take our time and savor the places we visited. It’s sounds kinda Woowoo but the serenity of the landscape + not being rushed was unexpectedly wonderful.

TjiddevippenSweden

totally get it. The problem is, at least first time, to know what to go for and what we could have skipped. FOMO!!! We bought the trip as a package, with hotels already plotted out. Otherwise i probably had skipped Diamond Circle as i have a feeling it is over rated and too crowdy. Same with Reynisfjara beach actually. I guess there are as beautiful beaches elsewhere, but it doesn't add too much time. :)

If you are truly restless travelers who do not like sitting or lingering, this should work. It is good you have a list, that way you can add subtract as you go. Seydisfjordur is lovely. Great food, chill vibe, nice shops and worth a stop. The drive there is beautiful. I wish we’d gone to Geoseas. I wish we’d gone to forest lagoon. Akureyri has a lovely botanical garden and a nice cafe with good food. Just be flexible and bring foul weather gear.

TjiddevippenSweden

Thanks! I love botanical gardens, so that's a great tip. I have now heard more than once that Seydisfjordur is worth it, so i will make room for it. :)

I love the hike up the Skogafoss river. So I always aim for 4+ hours (more if I can afford it) for this waterfall.

TjiddevippenSweden

I think that has to be next time. :( Looked at some pictures, and it looks awesome. IF we did it, what would you have switched out from our day 3? Thanks for this great suggestion.

Iceland is best enjoyed slowly. It's hard to pack so much in one day. What I would do is recognize if you're really vibing with one location to stay longer and cut things from the day. You can always visit some other time! Can't do it all! Iceland is abundant with beauty. Don't cheapen each location by trying to do too many.

I'm only familiar with the first 4. In my opinion I'd speed run seljalandsfoss, enjoy Gljfrabui, enjoy Kvernufoss (my place of commune ;P), and hike skogafoss as long as possible. Pack your picnic lunch for up there!
