Simple Twist of Fate followed closely by Shelter from the Storm.
Surprised my top Dylan songs are all Blood on Tracks cuts, I would have said I'd be partial to the debut record, specifically Song to Woody and House of the Rising Sun
Same for me too. It's in my cooking playlist, driving playlist, biking playlist, guitar play along playlist, my sit around doing nothing in particular playlist...
Me too! It was my number 1 of the year. It’s high in the running for favorite song of all time too. I just love it, and it’s what got me listening to more than just Dylan’s hits years ago.
I had three versions of Isis in my top 100 songs. If they'd been added together, it would have been my top Dylan song (and second-top-song overall). I would recommend checking out the live versions if you haven't already. I go back and forth on whether I prefer live or the studio version.
one of my all time favs (from any artist) in general, but there is something about that version. and besides that, if i could only listen to one dylan recording for the rest of my life, it would be that one. absolutely phenomenal
Lay Lady Lay! It was my 8th most played song. Something about those bongos and steel guitar just hypnotize me, not too mention the lyrics ("Whatever colors you have in your mind, I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine").
all the different versions on ‘more blood, more tracks’ are incredible and it’s so rewarding to listen to each one and hear the different variations, both lyrically and musically
Song to Woody, Girl from the north country, and ballad of a thin man by a significant margin. I wrote my senior thesis paper on Bob Dylan and used those as my major examples so I listened to them a whole lot.
“Mr. Tambourine Man” was my 2nd most played song of the year overall. Then “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Like a Rolling Stone” were my next two most played songs.
The Band’s I Shall Be Released was my most played song written by Dylan but my most played song recorded by him was Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again
I haven't looked yet, but I'm betting its either Born in Time (was my alarm for a short while), I Want You (MTV Unplugged 2) or one of the Mississippi's from Tell Tale Signs.
If not for you was the song for me! Fourth time around close thereafter. Kind of surprised it wasn’t sara, as I listened to it religiously for a longer period. Might be split up between the original and live versions..
really can’t believe it, dylan is usually my most listened to, but it didn’t even make the top 10 songs
top Dylan song is Folsom Prison Blues from The Basement Tapes complete collection
edit: dylan is my top artist but i guess i listened to other single songs more
my top 10 most played songs on spotify in 2021:
1. I contain multitudes (bob)
2. my own version of you (bob)
3. god bless the child (billie)
4. back in the good old days (john hartford)
5. its been a long, long time (bing)
6. pennies from heaven (bing)
7. Jockey full of burbon (tom)
8. Night Life (ray price)
9. simple twist of fate (bob)
10. Rosa Parks (outkast)
i thought i listened to a lot more new music.... oh well.... maybe RARW counts....lol
Bob was my #1 artist but not in my top 5 songs, which is due to the fact that I spent a month or two listening to every studio album while making an 80th birthday playlist. So my listening was too spread out to hit the songs chart. The playlist - emphatically not a greatest hits - turned out well: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2fQEf8VTB46e60ZtYI77Lg?si=NTb6Mi6uRumOm2t-skTSig
Foot of Pride (Alt version from Springtime in NY). Not sure how that happened but I do think its the best song on Vol 16. Even if “the reviews are mixed”…
the Girl From the Red River Shore outtake on Tell Tale signs.
I Was Young When I Left Home, was my "most binged", which I think means "most times in a row" as I was trying to figure it out on guitar and I suck.
Song to Woody
An oldie but goodie—gotta love it !
Mine too! And my most played overall.
One of my favorites!!
Simple Twist of Fate followed closely by Shelter from the Storm. Surprised my top Dylan songs are all Blood on Tracks cuts, I would have said I'd be partial to the debut record, specifically Song to Woody and House of the Rising Sun
Simple Twist might just be TOO good of a song. I discovered a new-found love for that song this year.
The way the harmonica comes in always gives me chills. And the entire “he woke up and the room was bare” verse. Great, great song.
I’ve made up my mind to give myself to you. I played it at my wedding this year!
Perfect choice!
Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright… cliche I know but the Still Game ending gave it a special place in my heart.
One of my absolute favorites!
One of Us Must Know Love me some Blonde on Blonde Interesting tho that second was I’m Not There, which I didn’t think would be there
Blonde on blonde is absolute gold. Stuck inside of mobile was my number 2 this year
It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry
This is my go to song for Dylan noobs to listen to!
Queen Jane Approximately
Have you listened to the Dylan & the dead live version? I can’t decide if I like it better than the original ahhhh
the man in me!
Same for me too. It's in my cooking playlist, driving playlist, biking playlist, guitar play along playlist, my sit around doing nothing in particular playlist...
he’s a good man, and thorough.
“oh, well, all right”
Same!
Me too! It was my number 1 of the year. It’s high in the running for favorite song of all time too. I just love it, and it’s what got me listening to more than just Dylan’s hits years ago.
Me too! I don't know I should be embarrassed or proud of it. 🤣
PROUD! His voice is at perfect rasp, the lyrics are solid, and the mix of piano, organ, vocals is sublime Americana.
Same
Up To Me It’s been that type of year
Dude that was my 2020 most played song! I understand completely lol
Visions of Johanna
Isis Just addicted to the melody and the lyrical delivery.
I had three versions of Isis in my top 100 songs. If they'd been added together, it would have been my top Dylan song (and second-top-song overall). I would recommend checking out the live versions if you haven't already. I go back and forth on whether I prefer live or the studio version.
I want you.
Same! It's so catchy
Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues from the Live 1966 record
one of my all time favs (from any artist) in general, but there is something about that version. and besides that, if i could only listen to one dylan recording for the rest of my life, it would be that one. absolutely phenomenal
Most likely you go your way (And I’ll go mine)
Gem of a song
Weirdly, Precious Angel. Finally saw the light on the religious period this year, though not the light on religion.
Lay Lady Lay! It was my 8th most played song. Something about those bongos and steel guitar just hypnotize me, not too mention the lyrics ("Whatever colors you have in your mind, I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine").
Song that started my Dylan fandom
Simple twist of fate. Let’s just say it’s been a rough year lol
We’ve all been there my friend! Luckily Bob gifted us blood on the tracks
Tangled up in blue
A lot more love for Simple Twist of Fate in the thread but I think I prefer this.
Jokerman babyyyyy!

Mama, You Been on My Mind - Live at Philharmonic Hall, New York, NY - October 1964
I love this version! You can really hear the great chemistry between Joan and Bob
Just Like a Woman
Song to Woody. Second most listened is Positively 4th Street
Mine was positively 4th street!

all the different versions on ‘more blood, more tracks’ are incredible and it’s so rewarding to listen to each one and hear the different variations, both lyrically and musically

Tangled up in blue.
“Things Have Changed” for me

Just Like Tom Thumb's. see flair for which version
they absolutely kill it on that version
Boots of Spanish Leather
one of the most heartbreaking and beautiful songs ever written imo. you ever hear this version? https://youtu.be/iOHkyZ62jjQ
Song to Woody, Girl from the north country, and ballad of a thin man by a significant margin. I wrote my senior thesis paper on Bob Dylan and used those as my major examples so I listened to them a whole lot.
The Royal Albert Hall version of Ballad of a Thin Man
Love the organ. fits the aura of the song so well.
Girl from the North Country, followed by Don't think twice it's alright.
She's Your Lover Now (Studio Outtake - 1966)
Shelter From The Storm- Live at Hughes Stadium.
Great track, thought the Live at Nippon Budokan was my favorite version until I heard this one.
One More Cup of Coffee. Dylan was my most played artist, but this song only clocked in at 20th.
Just Like A Woman
“Mr. Tambourine Man” was my 2nd most played song of the year overall. Then “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Like a Rolling Stone” were my next two most played songs.
Tangled Up in Blue cuz I'm a basic bitch. Oh well...if it means I'm a basic bitch, Bob shouldn't have made that song so damn good.
The Band’s I Shall Be Released was my most played song written by Dylan but my most played song recorded by him was Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again
It’s all over now baby blue 1975 rolling thunder revue version.
girl from the north country.
Too Late (band version) I listened to this thing 38 times. Was an amazing complement to foot of pride and the best song on the bootleg series.
JOKERMAN

Strangely enough it was I Dreamed I Saw St Augustine. I've developed a bit of an obsession.
Abandoned Love! Sort of an addicting listen
Don't Fall Apart on me Tonight - listened to Infidels (great and underrated)for the first time in years, that is my favourite on the album
Mississippi ❤️
Same here!
The lonesome death of Hattie Carroll
Which version
The original version on "The Times They Are A Changing"
The og is great. 1975 live version is awesome too, different from og but really cool, from his Boston show that year.
Changing of the Guards
What Can I Do For You, followed by Pressing On. Not necessarily religious, I just love Saved. Wound up in the top 0.05% of Bob listeners this year.
East Virginia Blues
Dear landlord, idk why, I guess it hit different this year
Tell Me I do love this song but was surprised it was my most-played Bob song
Tomorrow Is a Long Time
I haven't looked yet, but I'm betting its either Born in Time (was my alarm for a short while), I Want You (MTV Unplugged 2) or one of the Mississippi's from Tell Tale Signs.
If not for you was the song for me! Fourth time around close thereafter. Kind of surprised it wasn’t sara, as I listened to it religiously for a longer period. Might be split up between the original and live versions..
really can’t believe it, dylan is usually my most listened to, but it didn’t even make the top 10 songs top Dylan song is Folsom Prison Blues from The Basement Tapes complete collection edit: dylan is my top artist but i guess i listened to other single songs more
