Coolio says reacting the way he did to Weird Al is one of the biggest regrets of his entire career
(Because he realized later in life how pissy and arrogant it made him seem. His quote was like “this guy did MICHAEL JACKSON and I thought I’m too good for this?)
I don’t think HP as a brand is remotely struggling for relevancy or name recognition. Its sales are huge, particularly in the wake of the pandemic when the books sold incredibly well.
Yeah I just remember how things were when the books were still new and the series wasn’t completed yet. Around the time that Weird Al wanted to make this parody Harry Potter‘s popularity was at a ferver. It’s still very popular with a shitload of fans, but it’s not like *the* big thing in media like it once was. It could be easier to get permission these days than it was back then. Still probably tough though, I imagine WB guards that IP pretty jealousy
Yeah there’s lots of Harry Potter Fans out there. It’s still not as popular as the franchise was when it was first coming out though, when Weird Al wanted to make this parody. Back then it was *the big thing* in media for a time. It’s still very popular but it’s not the same, hence why I said the popularity had faded *somewhat* and not that the popularity had faded completely
A bit. However after moving away from celluloid film and into the digital theater realm, the cost savings were \*not\* passed on the users. In an example of what happened to a good industry turned bad, movies used to be about pleasing the fans, not topping box office receipts the year prior because they keep Jacking up the prices anyway.
Nah this is weird Al
Harry Potter and The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
Harry Potter and Weasel Stomping Day
Harry Potter and the Polka Party of Azkaban
Hairy Potato Pie and the Indigestion of Midnight

Oh the irony of Weird Al not doing a Harry Potter parody only for Harry Potter to do a Weird Al parody.
Wait what
Daniel Radcliffe played Weird Al in a movie about him
They did do a dementors line.

Oh yeah lol
pretty dang good movie
I laughed the whole time. It really is pretty dang good.
Would’ve been a great scene in the movie: Daniel Radcliff’s Weird Al singing Weird Al’s Harry Potter

He always asks for permission - class act
You have to respect the artists who say yes. They know they've made it.

At least he fessed up and admitted to having been wrong
That’s because they were making a parody themselves, Fantastic Beasts.
Poor Screenplays and How to Profit off Them
Declining Franchises and How to Milk Them
Wish we could find out what song he was parodying for it, or what genre of music he would have used for it if it were original.
I imagine Hedwigs’ theme in polka
Weird Al should be able to do anything he wants.
I am beyond disappointed and my day is ruined
Maybe try again now that Harry Potter has faded somewhat in popularity
The Harry Potter franchise is now desperate for that Yankovic bump
Just like Madonna!
I wonder if they ever >!caught her!<

JK sucks as a human being, but the Universal theme parks are nothing short of absolute magic. Harry Potter is a Sony IP now anyway.
WBD owns the movie rights.

Surely you jest. Hogwarts Legacy will be one of the top games of 2023.

Hairy Peter and the Sorcerer’s Bone
Tell us you’ve only heard Weird Al on Limewire without telling us you’ve only heard Weird Al on Limewire.
Why? It's Weird freaking Al. Like, you know your big if he includes you in a parody
If The Phantom freakin’ Menace’s marketing could benefit from Weird Al, how could they think anything else would happen with HP?
Wait, if it’s parody does he even need Permission?
Legally he doesn’t, but Weird Al is a gentleman who asks for it anyway.
Respectable, I was just wondering if I missed something regarding parody. Cheers!
I want to watch their movie, but I’m not getting Roku, just to see it. What a terrible choice of a streaming platform to choose
You can get the app on a smart tv for free to watch, or go online via computer/tablet/phone and watch. Cost me nothing to watch it.
Al: Do it anyway. Your fans love you anyway. Screw what the Wakkos Want. Tried it their way, now it's a game for their rematch.
Movies are expensive lol. Probably wants studio backing to help promote and lay for the film

He's talking about a song not a movie lol
Oh yea that would make more sense lol.
That is how you get sued. People greatly misunderstand fair use.
Yes. They do. Spock's Brain doesn't have issues with Copy Right because I can see the original on the left.
My disappointment is immeasurable
Harry Pooter and the Bedazzled Vajayjay
Nah this is weird Al Harry Potter and The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota Harry Potter and Weasel Stomping Day Harry Potter and the Polka Party of Azkaban Hairy Potato Pie and the Indigestion of Midnight
That’s fucking horseshit
He can’t remember if they replied or not, so he’s not sure if they said no…
It’s not a problem. We have “Wizard People Dear Reader”.
And the Rifftrax tracks for the movies.
Super heroes parody film is the fastest way to kill the genre Evidence : not another teen movie
rebuttal: scream
