If you take a good look at it it does not look like buck rub, there are sharp cuts that taper inwards towards the middle, almost like someone took a knife to the tree. But idk im seeing what i see through a screen
Edit: also the bark and wood shaving beneath the tree seem to not have deer feces, urine or fur with it. A deer rubs for two reasons, to remove antlers and to claim territory, when a deer marks territory it uses its feces
While I'm doubtful this was a deer like most are saying. I'm not saying you're incorrect.
I walked this path at 0830 this morning. This was not here.
I live in a fairly developed city near major highways in Southern Ontario.
I've seen deer. But never have I seen one where I am.
The marks made in this tree are very defined, with angles most would use when chopping a log with a tool.
But I don't know enough about deer to guarantee it wasn't.
This is why I believed this to be mischief, maybe not a deer.

Thank you, there is no fur or other animal debris around
Someone killed not damaged a tree with an axe.

I think you are correct. That wasnt a deer.
Thats a deer rub. There antlers are shedding.
Sharp enough to look like axe marks? Genuinely asking, I don't know.
That’s called a deer
Tall beaver?
It was Madison Calwthorn
It may have gotten in a quarrel with that other tree behind it. They’re both lookin kinda guilty.
I see.. unrealised dreams about being a beaver.
We don't know the whole story, so we shouldn't be saying who's right and who's wrong.
hope this is where he gnaws with his teeth.
Is it a Norwegian Maple? If so, then fuck that tree. It's a bad tree. If not, blame squirrels.
Hey now! Let's keep squirrels out of this thank you very much.
YOU DAMAGE MY TREE, I DAMAGE YOU
Just give it a hug and it'll be fine.
Madison cawthorn was upset about loosing
