I had a really bad asthma attack when I was kid that sent me to the hospital while i was watching the original. Now watching it feels like a dark fever dream and includes a vague looming dread. Other than that I liked it.


To be fair... if you removed all the Nintendo/Mario IP from the first movie, you have yourself a pretty decent Sci fi movie. If you watch it while pretending it's got nothing to so with super Mario bros or Nintendo, you will enjoy it much more.

Jack Black and Lizzo.... what a pair. He looks like Bruce Vallanch and Rosanne Barr had a baby. And Lizzo looks like Dr. Zoidberg when his shell is off.

They aren't really the same in my opinion, just share a similar name and theme. I wouldn't really call the new movie a "cheap copy" either. It's similar to the original game compared to the OG movie. The new one appeals more to the younger audience in cartoon form as well, while also attracting the older audience with it's nostalgia and voice actors. I was a kid when I first watched the 1993 version and I STILL have nightmares about the goombas. Those things.. *visible shiver* No. That was NOT a Goomba. They're like Mario and Duke Nukem had a love child and then shat it out in a river full of toxic waste. Overall, loved the new one, lived up to the hype. Still have respect for the OG, of course.
