He was talking after the Leipzig game how he was annoyed that he didn’t drop down, and instead made the back post run when Gundo shot. Watch him drop down for a rebound as soon as he realises Foden is going to shoot. Not a fluke how he’s always there.
The term tap-in gives off the vibe of receiving a pass and scoring a simiple one touch goal. On the other hand, poacher has the connotations and emphasis on positioning and overal finishing ability. Obviously people are welcome to disagree.
Wait a second, this thread is now confusing me. Has "poaching" now become a term of disrespect. I seem to have completely glossed over this development. I'd say that I'm not that old in my late twenties and yet I hold Inzaghi in an extremely high regard: one of the legends of the game.
People will use any term to demean the achievements of someone while negating their orginal meaning. Many “poachers” are held in high esteem such has Hugo Sanchez of Mexico as well.
one early memory I have of him playing for Italy in the early 2000s is when he scored 2 goals and they were cancelled for offside, and then he added another one.
Pep: Alright Haaland just focus on your positioning, the system will handle the rest.
Haaland: Legit bro, say no more.
Pep: I don’t think you understand, I know you can do much more but you need to just improve your positioning.
Haaland: Seriously I got it my man, mission will be accomplished.
I know it’s just a saying but Haaland was involved in the build up. Him dropping back to layoff the pass to Mahrez was the key to the whole attacking play.
It’s a real sign of how the best goal scorers don’t actually just finish that much better than other players, they just create so many chances for themselves through these tiny things. The stats completely show this as well.
I truly believe if he stayed on the pitch against Leipzig he would have scored at least another 3 goals honestly.
He's a freak of nature, not even strikers like R9 or Ibra were scoring goals at this rate when 22 years old.
Ronaldo was, to be fair. In his first few seasons at club level for Cruzeiro, PSV and Barcelona he scored 145 goals in 153 games, up until about age 20. Vastly different players though, Haaland just seems absolutely relentless right now. Defenders just seem to have absolutely no answer for him. Hopefully injuries don't get him the same way they did with Ronaldo.
Tbf I think Pep is trying to make sure that he remains injury free. Imagine if he got some injury after scoring the 5 goals, people would then complain that he should've been subbed earlier.
I regularly score 3+ goals with Haaland on FIFA. Figured that was because FIFA is shit. Turns out it is hyper realistic. I guess I owe EA an apology. They can still piss off, though.
An average striker even with the same positioning would have scuffed like half those chances he had at least. A lot of his goals were either first time rebound off balance, or having to outmuscle a defender to get off a shot/header. His finishing under pressure is absolutely insane.
i swear to fucking god the ball just looks for him. this was going in from foden until physics just decided to say fuck it and give him another hattrick
Players get caught flat footed and miss these chances all the time though. His reactions are incredible. He has a sixth sense for knowing which type of finish to use based on how much time and space he has, it’s the kind of economy of motion you see from tennis players.
Yeah I think that’s one of the things people who talk about all the “tap-ins” miss.
Even if it’s all from inside the box he’s frequently doing a few very different finishes each game and he does seem absurdly good at picking the right one for the exact situation.
You make a good point. He was anticipating a rebound, he was making tiny steps like a tennis player. Even then he was slightly off-balance when he struck the ball, most people will just be caught out or wouldn't be able to take a shot straight from the rebound.
Jesus is my favorite player of the Pep era bar none, but he'd have gotten this rebound, taken four touches, at least two of them dazzling, then shot into a wall of bodies.
Haaland is just a finishing machine.
Look at his feet before the rebound, he is ALWAYS READY. This type of rebound happens in every game but players miss them because they're just ball watching.
It honestly looks like he did work for this, though. Last game he missed an opportunity because he kept moving. This one he steps back and readies for a shot. Intelligent player.
Plus every fiber in his body acts on his command. He scores in the weirdest situations with the weirdest movements. He scores the chances other players barely miss.
People were getting downvoted even a month ago for daring to suggest Haaland is actually a better signing for Man City than Kane, just because Haaland stopped scoring for a bit.
That's it. A lot of strikers would also be t in this position for the rebound. But they would hit soft or miss the goal. And everyone would say that it's ok, because difficult with this short reaction time. But Haaland's quick thinking and superb technique make him succeed. He simply is this good
It will be an exciting duel with him and De Ligt. He's also a quick thinker and anticipates a lot.
Soon enough he is going to have a room in his house filled to the brim with match balls. He might even have to deflate them to make room for all of those balls. Maybe one day he will open a museum in Norway to display all his match balls. It will be called Haaland's Balls.
You know, I found myself saying "This guy is on 42 goals on March 18th already, unbelievable" but then I remembered about Messi's 2011-12 season (73 goals + 32 assists). How on earth did those numbers even make sense? Wonder when that record's gonna be broken.
I think that season is one of those perfect storm moments that might never really be replicated, at least with the current format of European club football.
The craziest thing isn't even the numbers. If we go check the Messi highlights from that season we will see that's just like 20% of his game output.
Never going to see anything like that ever again.
And if we just focus on the goals, the top15/20 it's like IMPOSSIBLE goals.
Absolutely. Seeing how many huge chances he set up for teammates that season _while scoring 70+ goals himself_ is astounding too — the man could’ve had twice those assists and still found time to score
Haaland is literally a Blue Lock anime character. The way he is always in the right spot and goal scoring ability is fucking unreal....like wtf a hat trick in 60 mins with 2 of them in the first half.
Fuck every single one of these teams that could have bought him but did not.
- Real Madrid - for not buying him
- Barcelona- for fucking not having enough lever
- Bayern Munich - for being cheap fucks
- PSG - for being dumb fucks
Pre-injury R9 and peak Messi were more "unfair", what makes him terrifying is how consistent he is at scoring every time anyone makes a mistake, unreal
Prime Messi was just on another world, not even just the goal scoring but his ability to cut through the defense like butter just made no sense. There was no scheme to contain that, you just prayed that he didn’t get enough sleep the night before the match.
Yeah with Haaland it's if the ball gets near him in the box he finishes it.
With Messi he can be at the half way line with 4 defenders in front of him and somehow cut through and get an open shot.
The most incredible thing about Haaland is the fact that he knows EXACTLY where to be at all times. It's fucking unreal. Greatest striker to have played this game, EVER. What a time to be a football fan.
I don’t watch City much, so I just see his goals. I can’t quite work out what makes him so good. Earlier in the season he seemed to score some crazy kung fu goals, but for the most part most his goals seems, not quite like sitters, but not worldies either. Like if you only watch Rashford goals vs Haaland goals and know nothing else about them you might assume Rashford is a better player. What is it that enables Haaland to score SO many goals!? Obviously playing for City helps. But is it possible that he’s just a very well rounded striker who makes hardly any mistakes and gets himself into the right positions?
I’m just working through this out loud, I’m obviously aware that he’s another level, just irks me that he gets so many goals without seeming (on a superficial watch) to be doing anything that amazing..
His anticipation is unmatched. Watch his goals in .5 speed and pay close attention to his movements compared to everyone around him. He's always the first one to react - not just to the ball, but to small spaces opening up in crowded areas. While everyone is focused on what's happening in one instant, he seems to be focused on what's going to happen in the next. He's got one of the best football instincts I've ever witnessed - always one or two steps ahead of everyone else. It's absolutely ridiculous.

This right here, nice insight into how his mind works differently from other strikers.
It’s the same with Ronaldo. Folks call it “poaching” lol
I’d say poaching is a kinder term than tap in merchant
Poachers used to be respected until online fanboys turned it into an insult
These young esgelords haven't seen players like Inzaghi live, that's why.
one early memory I have of him playing for Italy in the early 2000s is when he scored 2 goals and they were cancelled for offside, and then he added another one.
Was really interesting to hear how that was a situation where he thought he should have scored, considering he didn't even touch the ball.
It’s a real sign of how the best goal scorers don’t actually just finish that much better than other players, they just create so many chances for themselves through these tiny things. The stats completely show this as well.
Software was updated
Reminds me of Henry saying he would adjust his positioning/runs differently based on who has the ball (ljunberg, bergkamps, pires )
8 goals in 5 days. That is fucking next level.
that is 38% of Crystal Palace's total goals scored for the season
8 goals in about 120 minutes of Football. Who the fuck does that?!
A goal every 15 minutes ffs I can't even do that playing alone in an open field
Norwegian on an open field Ned!
He came of with 30 minutes to go against Leipzig so its even better than that.
That's part of the calculation already. 120/8=15
Thanks for clearing that up
I truly believe if he stayed on the pitch against Leipzig he would have scored at least another 3 goals honestly. He's a freak of nature, not even strikers like R9 or Ibra were scoring goals at this rate when 22 years old.

8 goals in two games. Jesus christ
Not even full games that is
8 goals in 1.5 games. Holy Moses
And hes been subbed at 60ish both times could have been more... but I understand pep subbing him before a 2 foot comes his way
Cr7, Messi and Lewa in their prime
There's no need for that :(
Can you fucking not, we're suffering as it is
He’s 1 away from breaking ronaldos record. He got 5 and then 3 goals the next game in 2015
Trust Pep to sub him to nip that record breaking shit in the bud
Tbf I think Pep is trying to make sure that he remains injury free. Imagine if he got some injury after scoring the 5 goals, people would then complain that he should've been subbed earlier.
That’s certainly what Pep is trying to do, but we still like to chat shit when given the opportunity
I have started watching City games this season for Haaland and I want to break Pep in half sometimes..
Literally. If it wasn’t for him I genuinely think he’d be on 10 goals in 2 games
This isn't even next level. He's become the game developer
I regularly score 3+ goals with Haaland on FIFA. Figured that was because FIFA is shit. Turns out it is hyper realistic. I guess I owe EA an apology. They can still piss off, though.
8 goals from a combined 12 yards. Guys just an animal in front of goal
I can't wait for people to start calling him Tapinaland just because he has great positioning lmao
An average striker even with the same positioning would have scuffed like half those chances he had at least. A lot of his goals were either first time rebound off balance, or having to outmuscle a defender to get off a shot/header. His finishing under pressure is absolutely insane.
Darwin Nunez would’ve gone 2/8, because he would’ve gotten in exactly those positions but missed half of it.
You're too late for that already.
I mean even if he is, its clearly working on a level we’ve never seen before so he should keep doing it lol. Not like anyone can stop him
SIX FUCKING HAT-TRICKS IN A SEASON.
I want 9 just to say a hattrick of hattricks of hattricks
And hat-trick of saying the word hat-trick
Hattrick²
Yet
8 goals in 2 games. Cool.
8 goals in 120 minutes
1 gol every 15mins LOL
Death Taxes Haaland
You mean... Death Taxes Manchester City [3] - 0 Other Team - Erling Haaland
(hat trick)
Shit feels illegal 💀
Definitely immoral
We want another quintuple
Not if Guardiola has his way😤
pep subbed him off at the same time again LMFAOOO
Need to know the record across consecutive games.
Greediest footballer in the universe
You need to put an asterisk next to games because he might as well score a couple more in this game
i swear to fucking god the ball just looks for him. this was going in from foden until physics just decided to say fuck it and give him another hattrick
I don't even understand how such a perfect rebound can happen
Players get caught flat footed and miss these chances all the time though. His reactions are incredible. He has a sixth sense for knowing which type of finish to use based on how much time and space he has, it’s the kind of economy of motion you see from tennis players.
Yeah I think that’s one of the things people who talk about all the “tap-ins” miss. Even if it’s all from inside the box he’s frequently doing a few very different finishes each game and he does seem absurdly good at picking the right one for the exact situation.
it reminds me of table tennis players to be honest. extremely quick reaction times.
You make a good point. He was anticipating a rebound, he was making tiny steps like a tennis player. Even then he was slightly off-balance when he struck the ball, most people will just be caught out or wouldn't be able to take a shot straight from the rebound.

Something about the harder you practice the luckier you get
If it happens repeatedly, it aint luck. Dude has next level positioning and agility.
Yes Haaland we get it, you're good at scoring goals chill.
He’s a literal ball magnet
I genuinely think hes had 5 rebound tap ins this week.
I keep telling my son how Haalands goals is all about football IQ. Being at the right place at the right time and picking them rebounds and crosses.
Plus every fiber in his body acts on his command. He scores in the weirdest situations with the weirdest movements. He scores the chances other players barely miss.
Most of them yes but he can also score from anything in the box. His football IQ is his strongest trait followed by his physicality.
The fact that there can be a better trait than this man's physicality is crazy, because he was built in a lab.
your son will have good ball knowledge
Now just make him 6'4", impossibly fast, and built like a tank.
it’s the upgraded cpu it’s calculating all the angles for where the balls landing
Ur mum
More than that he’s literally a magnet for rebounds I swear there’s some witchcraft involved
Papu Gomez had two wishes
Lol fuck off
He’s absolutely incredible
this dude has his own gravity at this point lmao
The modern Pippo Inzaghi, except this man also athletic and jacked up as fuck.
Cross Inzaghi with Drogba and add some straight line speed.
the ball just WANTS to rebound back to his feet. insane
He’s married to the ball. Probably takes it home and cuddles with it in bed.
Well… https://twitter.com/erlinghaaland/status/1636078694874726401?s=46&t=twTtyDWZCS49DXJWGCRBIw
He actually does. He said as much.
And there it is
[удалено]
I wonder if this lad makes City worse
People were getting downvoted even a month ago for daring to suggest Haaland is actually a better signing for Man City than Kane, just because Haaland stopped scoring for a bit.
He was recharging his batteries
Yeah it's like starting a match with 10 players and 5 goals of advantage, absolute fraud /s
He is backing as he shoots. How tf does he manage to hit the ball so hard?
Technique, he's really really good.
That's it. A lot of strikers would also be t in this position for the rebound. But they would hit soft or miss the goal. And everyone would say that it's ok, because difficult with this short reaction time. But Haaland's quick thinking and superb technique make him succeed. He simply is this good It will be an exciting duel with him and De Ligt. He's also a quick thinker and anticipates a lot.
He’s a large man, that probably helps.
Dread it
Run from it
Haaland still scores a hattrick
[giant goofy Norwegian smile]
Destiny still arrives.
We are trying.
Haaland arrives every game.
Rebound goal arrives
Run from it........
I was just thinking “huh, didn’t see the robot hattrick post yet” and was thinking of turning on the game.
He can't even see the ball, the pitch or the players. He just sees the code.
6th hattrick holy shit
Everytime everywhere all at once - Haaland
At this speed, he may break Cristiano and Messi hat-tricks record.
He's got 18 in 22 and he's only going to get better, he'll most likely break it
I think we are basically out of "ifs and "mays" at this point the real question is just how much lmao.
i just dont understand how his positioning is so fucking good he’s always exactly where he needs to be
Soon enough he is going to have a room in his house filled to the brim with match balls. He might even have to deflate them to make room for all of those balls. Maybe one day he will open a museum in Norway to display all his match balls. It will be called Haaland's Balls.
There more chance of him buy a condo for his hattrick balls than he deflate them
Ball denied foden just so he can get the umpteen hattrick this season
BRAUT
Monster. This should be illegal. How many goals do you reckon he will score by the of the season?
Around 60 if he's fit.
7 trillion
Even the goal itself assists him.
Bro, it is True what they say. Ball just searches for "craques". Motherkisser doesn't even need to go for the ball, it just looks for him.
Haaland probably: *I am a bot and this action was performed automatically.*
Good bot.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED
Is this guy from the future?? How many goals does he score from these random ricochets??
Best striker in the world
Babe wake up, new Erling Haaland hattrick just dropped!
do you guys realize that what he’s doing isn’t normal
it's the least normal thing we've seen since Ronaldo/Messi primes imo
Grow up
Beyern: "I'm in danger".
> Beyern
They are one of the 5 teams on the planet who should not be afraid of him. And most probably the strongest of the 5.
he’s scored 4 goals in 7 against Bayern, 5 in 8 if you count friendlies. Didn’t win but they should still be scared of him…
Choupo gonna show him levels
I weirdly don’t doubt this. Bayern def gonna show their clutch game, which City has been traditionally lacking in knockout games.
42
Godfuck and he cost only 60 mil? Would've been a bargain at 600
Nightmares realizing he hasn’t even fully developed that killer brain of his. Fucking hell he has such terrifying potential.
You know, I found myself saying "This guy is on 42 goals on March 18th already, unbelievable" but then I remembered about Messi's 2011-12 season (73 goals + 32 assists). How on earth did those numbers even make sense? Wonder when that record's gonna be broken.

198 goals if you count youth league.
We want another quintuple
Hold your horses, lads, another touchline teamtalk from Kompany and Burnley will be right back in this.
Aged exceptionally well ahahahahahah
He's going to communicate very high level ideas in a way the players can understand. "We're going to nandos after this, boys"
It’s Haaland’s world, we just live in it.
Haaland is literally a Blue Lock anime character. The way he is always in the right spot and goal scoring ability is fucking unreal....like wtf a hat trick in 60 mins with 2 of them in the first half.
Fuck every single one of these teams that could have bought him but did not. - Real Madrid - for not buying him - Barcelona- for fucking not having enough lever - Bayern Munich - for being cheap fucks - PSG - for being dumb fucks
Bruh this is the funniest comment in here 🤣🤣
I've never seen a cheat code like this in football. Never.
This is Haaland's 6th hattrick in the season. Messi's best is 12 hattricks in a season.
jesus
You want to chill there for a second mate.
Pre-injury R9 was legit one of the five best footballers of all time. Basically Haaland with crazy dribbling skill.
Peak Messi is still crazier than this.
It's not even comparable lmao
91 goal Messi
Messi is the only other that comes to mind. Messi scored in I think 22 consecutive la liga games in a season. What’s the PL record 11?
I think it is 11 but Haaland had 9 once.
Reading the comments, y'all should chill. The dude was born yesterday.
How does he get in those positions??? Its like he can see the future.
Hattrick merchant
He did the thing!
This guy eats a lot of Norwegian brunost. He is insane
We really got the Dark Souls version of CL draws this season.
This dude isn’t a real person.
The the first time ever, I definitely believe we have someone who can do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke
The most incredible thing about Haaland is the fact that he knows EXACTLY where to be at all times. It's fucking unreal. Greatest striker to have played this game, EVER. What a time to be a football fan.
60 goals before April who says no?
Haaland is a certified magnet it's like the ball gets attracted to him
Last game he scored 5. He is regressing already what a loser
That's witchcraft level of positioning. It's like his feet are attracting the ball. Guy is a literal cheat code.
I don’t watch City much, so I just see his goals. I can’t quite work out what makes him so good. Earlier in the season he seemed to score some crazy kung fu goals, but for the most part most his goals seems, not quite like sitters, but not worldies either. It's like the ball always goes to him as if he being a magnet when the goal is open.
can we ban this guy
Lmao, I'm not watching the game I saw the other two goals posted on the sub. I scrolled down expecting the hat trick and of course it's there.
42 times this season he has given possession back to the other team. Bench him…
