Idemo Nole!!

jsnoodles

Benjamin Bonzi holds a special place in my heart because he was the highest ranked guy my friends and I a) didn’t recognise and, b) didn’t have a strong enough opinion on to hate so we all decided collectively he was our combined favourite.

Tricky-Author-8226

He was the first player to beat future french open champion Daniil Sergeyevich Medvedev at RG.

aweap

Sigh! Really wanted Zandschulp to show up here considering there was little to no competition in Pune. Anyway at least we'll still get a first time champion from the very first singles tournament of the year. Wonder how many times has that happened?

jsnoodles

Bonzi is done with poaching challengers and is up to poaching weak 250s.

Efendiskander

Soon poaching weak ATP 500 like Rio or Hamburg

SomersetMackem

Maharashtra must be one of these tournaments that happens because the sponsors pay for it rather than the fans wanting it

Sad-Insurance9818

yep. players are only there for a pay check too.

aweap

They should have had the SF and finals on Saturday and Sunday. More people show up in the weekends.

morsecodetwopoint0

Botic has lost his first service game in all 3 sets now ... not great!

Plane_Highlight3080

The qualifies for Adelaide 2 are ridiculous 😱😱 Anisimova, Pliskova, Zheng?! Most 250s events have a weaker draw than the qualifications for this tournament.

MarbleEmperor

Watching the end of the Trevisan match, and realised that if I didn't already support her, I would find her incredibly obnoxious.

tigrefacile

She bears more than a passing resemblance to my wife, so I think she’s great. With the sound off.

failboatzz

Let's fucking go, Botic! All Dutch final still on!

aktajha

Indian Maharadja must be pleased in Pune

failboatzz

Indeed. I didn't see it as a tournament sponsor tho, is it still mostly known for Hockey clothing?

arthurtex06

Does anyone know at what time the final of Adelaide is scheduled at?

Sweaty_Manager_2517

We overrated mini Stefanos , Stefanos senior at 18 was already very good at atp level

jsnoodles

Sort of, he was top 200 but didn’t get into the top 100 until he was 19. Though he *did* beat Berrettini at the US Open qualies in 2017 which is interesting

ton_kuko

United Cup commentators discussing top SHBHs in the game and didn't even mention my boy Domi

aweap

Ash is expecting a baby?! Commentators at United Cup just confirmed! 😱👏👏👏 Congrats to them!

Antonio_is_better

Okay 2nd singles at United Cup is some big time points farming

bingewatcherAT

Is there any chance Papamichail wins against Bronzetti tomorrow?

Nastypav12

Yes; similar styles with Lucia's best results on clay; if Despina can keep the ball in play she should have a chance.

aweap

She has a 1-0 record against Bronzetti from like 5 years ago

bingewatcherAT

woohooo

Milly_Hagen

Statement from Sinner after seeing Dr and having scans and tests indicates it's not serious, he just needs rest. Will be back on court in a few days. Not sure if this means he'll be playing Kooyong Classic still.

legohotwing

All Musetti has to do is keep the ball in play and Sakk will make an error

Pikachude123

Is sakellaridis backhand just non-existent?

A-dab

The year is 2028. Martina Trevisan and Lorenzo Musetti seal their status as the greatest of all time after winning 24 slams in a row from 2023 to 2028 in singles, doubles, and together in mixed doubles

Frainaman

Even as an italian I can say that this scenario is absolute chaos lmao

sriv_ak_04

Prediction for Djokovic-Medvedev SF Match in Adelaide 1

TresOjos

Close match at times, but Novak wins, as usual.

krirkrirk

All my money on "will be a good match"

sriv_ak_04

Yeah that's imp but if you have to pick a winner then who will you choose

krirkrirk

Tough one, they always have very close matches. But betting against Novak in Australia would not be very smart

Antonio_is_better

Musetti has no chill

legohotwing

Sakkari really messed things up for Team Greece

jsnoodles

She felt the pressure of knowing she had to win. And we all know how she is with pressure.

Tricky-Author-8226

And it is a semi final. That doesn't help Sakkari.

hojbjerfc

Djokovic is the worst. Finally feeling good about daniil again and Djokovic is gonna come 6-1 6-3 him without facing a single break point

Tricky-Author-8226

Medvedev's gonna win tomorrow 🫣

hojbjerfc

We will see. I hope so

aweap

C'mon Botic! You can't let this one slip after coming so damn close. 😫

Sweaty_Manager_2517

Poor Tsitsipas, has to carry his whole country in his back

De_Bananalove

Sakkari had not lost a single set this whole tournamenr till today. Stop it.

jsnoodles

Well Maria carried him in the mixed so he can have a turn.

Antonio_is_better

How many points is this match for Musetti?

BoiRacers

Bagel prevented😎

bingewatcherAT

so... Maria really lost it for them huh?

onyxrose81

Honestly, yeah. That was a must-win match.

Antonio_is_better

Giraffe height and serving 180kph? I don't expect we'll see this guy on the main Tour

jsnoodles

He’s one of the highest ranked teens on tour. He’s just starting out.

Antonio_is_better

He's ranked in the 800s. We have a teen at #1. He is very tall with terrible serve technique so I think his ceiling is already pretty limited

Tricky-Author-8226

Using Alcaraz as the barometer for teenagers on tour will only lead to disappointment

Antonio_is_better

No but for very young players you basically look for good movement and good technique. Currently I'm seeing neither

jsnoodles

And when Sakellaridis is the first Greek slam winner then what

Plane_Highlight3080

There will be lots of Greek players in 10ish years I suspect. Like there are quite a few Chinese girls coming though now just the right age to have been inspired by Ni La. There are also a lot of young Bulgarians kids (14-17 years old) I’m holding my breath for (but I shouldn’t because the way is very long)

Antonio_is_better

I think this argument works for a big country that's big into sports but where the fandom for a sport was lacking. Like where are all the Swiss talents coming through?

Plane_Highlight3080

Stricker, Kym, Feldbausch (this year’s #1 seed at AO) and a few other ones. I’m not saying there will be another Federer but I’d argue that it’s in the smaller countries where this activity is more obvious when there is a sudden surge of (top) juniors.

jsnoodles

I definitely think there’ll be more female Greek players but I wouldn’t be surprised if the boys are more taken up with basketball with Giannis.

aweap

We'll celebrate his doubles victory for sure. 👍

jsnoodles

Petros/Stefanos but it’s not the tsitsibros

aweap

Ok fine mixed doubles with Despacito Papamichail ☺️

Psychological_Bug676

I would like that but I feel like he’s way too tall tbh

jsnoodles

He’s going to keep growing too. What’s the equivalent of birth control to stunt growth for teenage boys?

IcyOrdinary1

Shapo has lost to djokovic by a similiar scoreline like 5 or 6 times in the last 5 years. Not to be too hard on shapo, but that also shows lack of improvment on his end which we know.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jeffersons_Mammoth

What’s worse than a pigeon?

TresOjos

It was inevitable. Medvedev is shaking somewhere.

Psychological_Bug676

At least Medvedev makes Djokovic run and is on his neck all the time. Can’t say the same about the rest of the lot

TresOjos

Perhaps, this will be the first real match for Novak this year, but in the end, we know how it will go.

ChanceVance

There's nothing that ruins Shapo or Milos Raonic's day quite like playing against Novak.

Blovering_Skill

La Monfils sad noises

Pikachude123

Did nole just serve 200 down the t second serve?

Jeffersons_Mammoth

Musetti straight abusing Tsitsipas from Wish

Milly_Hagen

Lol

An_Absurd_Word_Heard

Huh, really smart point from Shapo.

Slayy35

Called that double fault from miles away, common El Shapo meltdown

Antonio_is_better

Pretty decent tilt challenge. Angry Murray would be proud

Psychological_Bug676

This is depressing. If I was Shapo I would cry ngl 😭

krirkrirk

Shapo's backhand is too exploitable

jsnoodles

Sakkari normally gives such lovely handshakes she must’ve been pissed. Anyway Baby Stefanos is a future top 100 player at least but not yet probably.

AlfaG0216

There’s NO way Novak doesn’t win AO this year, right?

Arteam90

Really likely, yeah. I think his level is lower because he's not getting younger, however the competitive scene is also at a lower level in early 2023, imo. I say that for a few reasons: \- Medvedev isn't as good since US 2021 win. \- Tsitsipas isn't as good since FO 2021 loss. \- Zverev injured/recovering. \- Alcaraz been injured, not sure he will be recovered quite enough, also tough to win back to back after first slam. \- Ruud is guud, but don't think good enough. \- Rafa is still recovering and far too rusty. \- Sinner injury woes continue. \- Berrettini is also just recovering, playing decent but don't think has style to beat Djokovic. \- Rune beat him last year but high risk/reward player, lost to Nishioka other day which isn't great sign.

AlfaG0216

I think you’ve summarised the current state of tennis quite nicely here! I think Novak wins this AO probably the easiest one he’ll ever win, the rest of the field is just so so much below his level and he isn’t even at his highest level. I will also say that all those arguments about Roger playing in the weak era will soon be moot given how many slams Novak has won / will against these nextNextNextGen kids who’ve never even shown a glimmer of being capable of winning a slam in the past 10 years (Med/Alcaraz notwithstanding).

onyxrose81

They still have to play it, anything can happen (See Bastl-Sampras at Wimbledon). But Novak’s the fave for 9 reasons.

Tricky-Author-8226

Medvedev

Slayy35

Ah yes, the guy who has been mediocre at best since he bottled the AO Final against Nadal

jaguar_loco

Always a way

[deleted]

[удалено]

stewieeeeeeeee

Well .. despite the circumstances, it's been 2 full years since he's won a hard court Slam, and he's not getting younger. Favorite to win AO for sure, but each day passing increases the odds of players like Djokovic and Nadal getting randomly upset. No way I'd give Djokovic 85-90% odds to win.

miestersean

"We have" Stefanos "at home" Sakellaridis. His build is even similar. But seriously, seems like a player with potential and flair, even if he's playing Futures right now.

jsnoodles

He’s 6’6 at 18 man is gonna be interesting.

miestersean

Is Sakellaridis the heir to Lloyd Harris as "fake Tsitsipas"?

Psychological_Bug676

Pegula lost to Iga 4 times in a row but instead of sitting around like a billionaire, she got her ass up and worked. Like Novak is very good but what do these men have that they keep losing to him like this? If it’s peak Novak it’s fine but this is an old man years since his prime like bffr 😭

Stunning-Cod-2310

A lot of difference between Iga and Novak. And it's not like the tour loses to Novak on purpose lmao

HTMListerine

Does Novak play like a man in his mid-thirties? Can his movement be exploited? Does he fatigue easily or lack stamina? Have his shots lost any of their potency or consistency? The answer to all of those questions is no.

TresOjos

If you look at his game, he really doesn't have anybody who forces him to run much, he is the one who makes others run, he definitely doesn't have the movement or stamina of, say, Alcaraz, but compensates it with clever shots. 35 is not old, he might have another couple of year of top level, if he stays healthy, he will win everything.

krirkrirk

The concept of age doesn't apply to Novak

Pikachude123

There's a lady who just got a very nice picture of Novak's naked back

HTMListerine

This Shapo v Nole match is very high quality

Individual-Safety-50

No worries Shapo will give it right back

HTMListerine

One of these days Shapo is going to break his back with that ball toss

Slayy35

Of course the first match of his I catch in the year I tune it at 40-0 to him losing the next 5 points and getting broken lmao

BSV1974_NZ

Just have both players wear same clothing so good for TV. FFS.

Darius0995

Obviously his superb positioning and balance helps in making optimal shots; but Djokovic hits the ball cleaner than everybody else, it’s really that simple.

An_Absurd_Word_Heard

How the turn tables.

stewieeeeeeeee

And just like that, Novak gave back Shapo his soul

Stunning-Cod-2310

He'll take it right back at the end like he always does

An_Absurd_Word_Heard

Sick return from Shapo.

yangatanga

You can almost see a little piece of Shapo's soul die every time he has to return Djoko's shots. *Spoke too soon. Shapo dragging his soul back from the abyss with pure grit.

Individual-Safety-50

Always amazes me, everytime Djokovic plays, he makes me think he can lose in first set. But he never does.

An_Absurd_Word_Heard

Started slow but Djokovic is hitting super clean groundstrokes now.

legohotwing

Shapo cries as much as Sakkari

Your-Creator

I didn’t know Shapo was part Italian with those 🤌🤌🤌

HTMListerine

This Djokovic cat is pretty good at tennis, eh?

tsamo

Why do I have the feeling that Sakellaridis is going to be pummeled by Musetti?

[deleted]

[удалено]

tsamo

Might be, who knows ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)?

hopez11

Hoping for flopsetti to show up now🤞

GGAnnihilator

Sakkari loses in a semifinals again. How many times? How many times? How many times? (Falls to my knee) How many times? How many times? ^Probably ^16 ^or ^17 ^times.

An_Absurd_Word_Heard

YOU WANT LOW REPS THERE SAKKARI DAMN YOU!

Ok-Run-9755

This may sound weird But when I was kinda younger, I found Novak's game boring af But as I have grown older , I found his game very exciting , So efficient and clean And I also belive with his improved serve, he also has started to play more aggressively

Arteam90

As a certified hater, I actually think his game is very dull and it's overlooked because he "gets the job done" as it were. And actually I think it's only getting worse because his serve is much better these days, and good serves have never appealed to me personally. He's more servebot-y.

Ok-Run-9755

Did you seriously call Novak out of all people a servebot The dude breaks opponents serve games at will He is anything but a servebot

Arteam90

He is *more* servebot-y. Of course, his serve has got better in recent years and it's quite a strength. But that just means that it's less interesting to me, I don't find strong servers as interesting.

GamamJ44

It also has to do with his racquet change and evolution (as well as the serve). If you look at him play between ~2013-2018 he was more conservative, more Murray-like. He now hits more theough the court, and has really improved his variety. Added slices, net-play, etc. The serve has also allowed him a S&V and +1 option. Agreed that he’s amazing to watch. I don’t like to think of gim as a defensive player. He’s almost always dictating, just not in the ball-mashing way, but in a conteolled spot-hitting to force an error way.

Pikachude123

I've found the same, I think it's a bit monkey brain like as a child you just want to watch who hits the ball the fastest

Antonio_is_better

Shapovalov taking the expression "ROFL" too seriously

Roy1984

Shapo: *Thanks for spanking*

Geo217

It’s going to be interested to see how some of these players in the United cup fair in the slam, for a pre slam warm up it’s very emotionally investing, I know they will have a bit of a recovery but it’s gotta be mentally taxing.

oompa87

Where does everyone view their live scores? Google, offical tournament website, WTA/ATP? I normally use Google (e.g. United Cup, ASB Classic) because the stats are nicely laid out but sometimes doesn't work e.g. Adelaide International live scores don't show on Google and United Cup no longer showing for me.

aweap

[Here](https://www.flashscore.in/tennis/)

8Poop

Google is an odd one for me, I prefer its layout too but sometimes have to go hunting for scores. For Adelaide, if you search e.g. Novak Djokovic there'll be a link to 'Adelaide International 1' on the standard Google scoreboard which will show live, but for some reason directly searching the name of the tournament doesn't bring it up (as it would usually do).

oompa87

Yeah it's a hit or miss for me too. I don't bet so don't like the clutter of the betting websites (appreciate the suggestions from the others though). I just like being able to filter by tournament, or by player.

cib_vk228

livescore, sofascore, many betting apps

Blovering_Skill

This match explains why Canadians have such a poor record against Novak aside from one FAA win. They can start the match well and then at some point start to crumble

Stunning-Cod-2310

That one win was in an exhibition match to be fair. And not just Canadians, most of the tour has a bad record against Novak.

krirkrirk

Tbf, Canadians are not really the only nationality to which this applies

Blovering_Skill

That is true but i don't think there are notable nations with a record of 1-30 in matches against Novak

krirkrirk

If you don't count Switzerland and Spain he's like 5-20 against pretty much every country. Canada has just too few players that played him, he mostly played Raonic, Shapo and Pospisil. If France only had Monfils and Gasquet he'd be 1-33 against us lol

Antonio_is_better

Weird generalization about Canadians tbh. Shapovalov simply isn't good enough. Raonic was not good enough against the Djokovic he played. Felix played him once outside Laver Cup

3sc0barKeeper

Lmao how novak walked to the chair after the last shot. Sliding Zlatan after a made goal vibes.

Antonio_is_better

Yeah this is a big meltdown from Shapovalov.

Stunning-Cod-2310

Shapo has given up now. Novak might not have taken the legs but he's surely taken his soul. Going to be 8-0 soon. By the look of it I thought Shapo would push Novak but Novak still has a few gears left.

An_Absurd_Word_Heard

I'm not his biggest fan, but it always bums me out seeing Shapo self-destruct like this. This is very similar to his Medvedev match in Vienna (though he was playing at a much higher level there) where he completely imploded in the second set.

Jeffersons_Mammoth

Sakellaridis now has the thankless task of beating Musetti

Stunning-Cod-2310

Rune watching and learning from the best

jambo_007

Shapo just give up and go home. Waste of time watching this guy play.

Antonio_is_better

Tilt challenge. Almost Murray like

JaimeLannisterrr

Rune is a djokovic fan confirmed?

TresOjos

I'm surprised he us still in Adelaide, I believe he is playing in NZ next.

stewieeeeeeeee

He pulled out citing a "back injury"

binsonfiremiss

Trevisan says she has been improving every day at United Cup. She hasn't even reached her final form yet

Pikachude123

A wild smiling holger rune has appeared JAAAA

An_Absurd_Word_Heard

Like the third or fourth Djokovic match I've seen him at now.

jsnoodles

He’s at a lot of games all the time. I’ve seen him at Rafa matches, Stef matches, some WTA ones. Man likes tennis.

Milly_Hagen

He's learning how to beat him every time

Plane_Highlight3080

He’s one of the few who have won against him at a masters final, he should be teaching the other players lol

Ihateredditalot88

Hahaha "I deserve this win" chefs kiss

Stunning-Cod-2310

Some bomb forehands in this match from Novak and then people say he doesn't have that pop lol

Antonio_is_better

It depends on the situation. There's definitely spots where Djokovic historically has lacked some easy pace and where it's hurt him.

Individual-Safety-50

Shapo looks like he's been playing for 4 hours already

Antonio_is_better

I think for all this time they've hyped Shapovalov as a 'dynamic' player I think what they meant is he has no balance.

cofchaos

168km/h unreturnable

BSV1974_NZ

That is the greatest female tennis match I have ever seen. I’m sure there have been better female matches but I haven’t seen them.

Geo217

You probably need to watch more tennis imo

HansAlan

Go home sakkari

BoiRacers

Ita gonna be hard for Greece to get the three wins needed to reach F... Anyway as an Italian, this makes tomorrow's match between berrettini/tsitsipas a LOT more enjoyable and less stressful.

Geo217

The tie is over, it was the only match Greece were genuinely the favourite in.

Frainaman

I'm italian, but you should never say never. I mean, I was almost sure Martina would lose and here we are.

Geo217

Martina is still ranked in the top 30. Its never a sure thing with Sakkari. With Greece it basically had to be Sakkari, Stef and the mixed doubles to get to 3 wins, as it was against Croatia. It will be 2-0 after Musseti wins

Chosen1gup

Bronzetti lost to 11 players outside the top 100 last year alone, Greece still has a small chance. Despina took van Uytvanck to 3 sets so her level isn’t too far off.

Frainaman

Exactly. Hoping it will be less stressful for Matteo too.

razorsharp3000

Sakkari must have gotten flashbacks to when she flopped against Trevisan in RG. Another SF, another missed chance by Sakkari

bekkahthecactus18

Trevisan up to new career high of 22 aswell… wow.

Sweaty_Manager_2517

Oh Italy annoys me now, please Greece do the miracle

Arteam90

As a Djokovic hater I find it difficult to be impartial (if we're being honest), but it's frustrating to see him not even play *that* well and beat some of these players. In terms of top players, Shapo will only basically be good against Rafa it seems.

3sc0barKeeper

That is kind of the problem with fan/hater view. You tend to evaluate the level of play on a different manner. In this case I believe its a match up thing.

Antonio_is_better

That's just a matchup thing. And if Nadal plays well he still has an easy time.

Arteam90

Oh for sure, "styles make fights" as they say. But it's quite striking nevertheless.

Vasst13

Sakkari always gets broken either serving for the match/set or serving to stay in it. It happened in all 3 sets today. Same old story. Trevisan is a hell of a player and I've grown to like her attitude.

Anck-Su-Namun93

Sakkari kinda salty at the net, right?

Geo217

I’d be as well if my opponent screams on every shot. She was even screaming on slice backhands lol

Anck-Su-Namun93

Yeah, the screaming was really bad

Neo-physical123

Shapovalov: the most consistently inconsistent of the top tennis player

gareth_30

Martina today was a joy to watch (on mute). She played so so well!

tsamo

Kudos to Trevisan, she played amazingly. I still hate the screaming though.

cib_vk228

Italy vs US will be decent final at least
