Looking for a new racquet and came across this [fun article](https://tennisnerd.net/history/the-history-of-tennis-racquets/28502). Not very AO related but never knew Stefi won a golden grand slam
She’s actually the real GOAT. Her dominance was insane. And she won 22 slams BEFORE she was 30. She had more in her. Was still winning slams and getting to slam finals when she retired.
So with WTA suspended due to rain who do you think will win these matches?
Davis vs Kovinic
Vekic vs Selekhmeteva
It looks like Davis and Vekic are favorites considering how the current score of the matches before the rain delay?
So what's the latest thinking on what Novak's hamstring issue actually is?
Is it just a mild strain that won't go away, and he is playing cautious because he doesn't want to make it worse? Or is it a full blown pulled muscle that he is just trying to gut through?
I'm leaning towards the former because I want to have hope lol, but also because typically in a serious hammy injury, guys usually have trouble just walking around. Don't think he could actually complete a full match if it was that serious.
I think it's just cautious as like you said it really is a struggle just to walk with a proper hamstring injury though I guess it would be possible to play with painkilling injections ( he would be risking serious injury with that and it's a long 2 weeks so would doubt he would be that stupid)
I'm surprised there's no major middle eastern tennis tournament yet. Only a matter of time before there are Saudi, Qatari and UAE tournaments with prize pots 10x that of every other.
The Dubai and Acapulco 500 events are the same week; Dubai's prize money is $3M compared to Acapulco's $1.8M. (And that's for the ATP events, for WTA Dubai has more than double the prize money than Acapulco, but I'm not sure if the WTA events are the same rankings points.)
Really looking forward to Medvedev the most this tournament. Don’t think he’s gonna win (definitely Nole for favorite) but the balls favor flatter shots and Medvedev is…well, you know.
For his own sanity, Popyrin needs to convert at least one break point this set. 0/12 is not record you want to carry into your next match (whenever that may be)
Delighted for Ruud, had me worried there.
So what's the craic now with all the suspended matches? They gonna have to start really early in the morning?
I think they normally start at the normal time but the players who haven't finished their matches won't get an extra day's rest between the first and second round
You know it's not negging if the person in question can't hear you right? I doubt Casper's confidence will be too dramatically undermined by comments he never reads.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negging
I know this will not happen but can you imagine the scenes if Muzz gets a couple more wins and somehow sneaks it to the QF / Semis.
Kokkanakis -> Batista Agut -> Ruud -> Fritz / Zverev -> Walkover (Djok's hammy will have snapped by then) -> Medvedev (L - he always loses the Final)
Novak was absolutely hammering his forehand. You don't know why Wilander? Because he doesn't want long rallies and to work his hammy. Will be interesting to see if he can keep that up.
I feel like Ruud always gets into good matches. He's the type of top player I like. Good enough to play with the elites, but not blow out every lower level player. Still usually wins but is close.
Holger Rune confirmed today that Netflix is following him.
He said he does not want to be a movie star but the best tennis player in the world. And he thinks this is a good way of promoting the sport.
Edit: and promoting the players
He said it is also good promotion for the participating players.
But apart from that I don’t see your point. Nothing indicates he is interested in fame more than tennis. He wants to be known through tennis
I didn't say he wanted fame more than tennis, those are your words. I said he wants attention which is fine but no need to say it's to promote tennis. It doesn't need little homophobe's like him to "promote" it. Having cameras follow you around is a distraction, and probably the reason why the big players don't want that.
*edit* homophobic not racist. Not that it's any better or worse.
Once when he was 16. He apologized and never repeated the behavior.
If we're canceling Rune for that, then we have to cancel Fognini, Rublev, Medvedev and a dozen others.
No he didn't apologize. He is more than old enough to know better and he used that word very casually. Cancel culture is a myth, he should suffer repercussions but didn't. I don't support any of them so I don't see what your point is. Your whataboutism is not going to work.
Not to sound rude ( no pun intended)
But Ruud being the 2nd seed has really made one half of the draw kinda dull
Alcaraz missing out really took away some mouth watering clashes
Yes but all the same a number 2 slam seed struggling against the ATP 110 (career high 97) is not what you expect at all.
All the more bizarre given that Djokovic is seeded below him at 4 with the form that he just showed.
I don't follow? Like you can't take seeding seriously for Nole due to what I said before. He almost definitely would still be number 1 if it weren't for that.
Well yeah, he didn't get points for 3 of the slams and more, he is obviously a lot better than Ruud. Why are you repeating yourself as if you are saying something different?
Honestly it is pretty much what I expected, anyone who has followed Machac knows that ranking belies his quality. He's been winning a lot the last 6 months and will be top 50 soon.
Anyone who is talking about his leg after his win is getting downvoted. It is just hilarious at this point and some comments were well meant. Just mind-numbing how defensive some fans can get
Love the support for IDEMO❤️. What a display of tennis, it was a pleasure to watch. I wish his opponent well because he showed a great mindset despite being decapitated hope he does well In the clay season
that's ridiculous. one of them was a forehand error on the right side to break, which he subsequently won the next point. he was just a terminator in that 3rd set. his ball striking is so clean
Just tuned in to see Djokovic's return winner to make it 5-0 dayumm
Carbralles Baena's grunt when serving tho🤣 didn't watch but I'm gonna entertain the idea that they were getting increasingly desperate as the match went on lool.
When all the big 3 (and Murygoat) retire the levels will not be the same idc
What a point Millman!
Is nadal really complaining about the clock when he takes an average of 30 seconds per serve?
Maria Sakkari about to be the next Netflix victim. Smh. This girl….
*watching murray for the first time* yeah I've always said that murray's underrated
What’s up with the matches? Thought they’d start an hour ago like yesterday?
Just realised Gasquet and Humbert are playing each other in the 1st round for the 2nd year in a row
One benefit of my 6am flight tomorrow is I can watch the Rafa match without having to purposefully get up for it
Where are you going
So with WTA suspended due to rain who do you think will win these matches? Davis vs Kovinic Vekic vs Selekhmeteva It looks like Davis and Vekic are favorites considering how the current score of the matches before the rain delay?
Kind of wild how the Vekic/Selekhmeteva match got suspended at 5-1 in the deciding set tiebreak.
Sooo, when will the Isner match continue?
So what's the latest thinking on what Novak's hamstring issue actually is? Is it just a mild strain that won't go away, and he is playing cautious because he doesn't want to make it worse? Or is it a full blown pulled muscle that he is just trying to gut through? I'm leaning towards the former because I want to have hope lol, but also because typically in a serious hammy injury, guys usually have trouble just walking around. Don't think he could actually complete a full match if it was that serious.
I think it's likely fine. A small strain with small chance of making lot worse but high chance to manage over the coming weeks.
I think it's just cautious as like you said it really is a struggle just to walk with a proper hamstring injury though I guess it would be possible to play with painkilling injections ( he would be risking serious injury with that and it's a long 2 weeks so would doubt he would be that stupid)
Ena Shibahara🥰😍 and Aoyama back together to win doubles. You heard it here first
I'm surprised there's no major middle eastern tennis tournament yet. Only a matter of time before there are Saudi, Qatari and UAE tournaments with prize pots 10x that of every other.
Qatar is a 1000 event
The Dubai and Acapulco 500 events are the same week; Dubai's prize money is $3M compared to Acapulco's $1.8M. (And that's for the ATP events, for WTA Dubai has more than double the prize money than Acapulco, but I'm not sure if the WTA events are the same rankings points.)
The Saudis want the WTA Finals. They may get it if there's no resolution to the Peng Shuai situation.
Saudi Arabia, a country where women have to wear an abaya and not leave the house without permission, hosting the WTA finals?!
That’s not actually true. Try opening your mind as to how Saudi is changing
Idk why they don't just set up their own major tournament a la LIV Golf
pls no
Really looking forward to Medvedev the most this tournament. Don’t think he’s gonna win (definitely Nole for favorite) but the balls favor flatter shots and Medvedev is…well, you know.
Not too happy about Griekspoor - vd Zandschulp being at 1am. They're the only 2 Dutchmen who qualified, let us watch at a normal time please 😭
Awesome stuff popyrin props to those in JCA watching till the end
This poppy dude is awkward af. Wait nvm he is just tired
Meanwhile, I imagine that Uber surge pricing just went through the roof in the Melbourne Park area.
Can confirm, was $110. I’ve settled on a walk to the cbd until prices dip
On the plus side, its a nice walk to the CBD, even at this time of night.
Congrats, Popyrin!!! Glad I watched this through the end!
Great match from both
oh thanks 9now. Turns off automatically at 2 AM Melbourne time.
Tseng shirt is sweet
Brutal stuff for Tseng, cannot get a W atm. Soon to be one win in fifteen. Runs of form don't come much worse.
Poppy, finally!
Lucky number 13?
What did popyrin say after he won that point? He pointed at someone and said something lmao
Popyrin finally breaks!
popyrin giving tseng the ol' henry bolingbroke
I don’t know what this means but i agree 👍
I guess playing at 1:40am is still better than having to finish it tommorow?
For his own sanity, Popyrin needs to convert at least one break point this set. 0/12 is not record you want to carry into your next match (whenever that may be)
The other Slam's sleep deprive me enough. I didn't think a home slam would do the same!! C'mon Popy!!
Let's GOOOOO popppppsss
Final set! Let's go!!!
Aight 5 setter
Damn Tseng can't find his first serve for the life of him in this TB
What would the players prefer, playing until 3 AM, or having to play 2 days in a row?
What a return
Would be interested to see the stat on how many times Poppy was hit the net, especially when trying to hit a forehand down the line.
[удалено]
I Hope so, the first slam as dadvedev as well!
popyrin is so bad
He’s hot and cold, when he plays well he is very good but he isn’t playing very well right now
Delighted for Ruud, had me worried there. So what's the craic now with all the suspended matches? They gonna have to start really early in the morning?
I think they normally start at the normal time but the players who haven't finished their matches won't get an extra day's rest between the first and second round
Yeah maybe about 8 in the morning would be reasonable.
Picked the right match in Poppy / Tseng.
Casper Ruud won't be truly tested until he wins against me
Found the 4.0!
Tennis at 1:18 am... Wow!
Haha not quite Hewitt vs Baghdatis levels yet
Can breathe now, thanks Casper
Welcome to the late show 🤣🤣🤣
Casper is so well spoken
Idk why every Casper win comes with so much negging.
You know it's not negging if the person in question can't hear you right? I doubt Casper's confidence will be too dramatically undermined by comments he never reads. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negging
Ruud is so funny
Tseng-Popyrin is still ongoing if anyone wants to watch. Popyrin just made it 5-5 in the fourth set, Tseng now to serve
Machac was a fighter, got damn
Great job Casper. And Machac really impressed me, if he keeps this up he could be scary in the future
Fair play to Ruud, Machac looked like the better player for the majority of the match but Casper really knows how to win these days
[удалено]
When will the world admit Casper is good actually?
Of course he's extremely good...winning matches is not a small part of being a good player.
[удалено]
Who
Sorry, I made a mistake. I've rectified it.
Hell of a fight by Machac. Played incredible. I think if he stays healthy he can be top 50 by the end of this year
And the bad boy of tennis advances
Are there any more matches after these finish? Or are they tomorrow?
Imagine if they just kept putting matches on all night though.
This is meant to be the one Slam that I actually get some sleep.
Tomorrow. It's after 1am now.
Casper is letting out his inner Viking!
It's crazy that Djokovic is playing at this level and he's turning 47 this year. He's still able to keep up with the young guns like Gasquet etc
Are we in 2033
You mean 37, though I can see him play AO at 47
Ruudosmash
SPLITS
What was that ruud
YESSS RUUD BREAKS
22 first round matched are still pending with Heat/rain expected tomorrow too
Casper’s kit is lovely but I’m kinda of sad because he didn’t sign my koala
He is so nice with fans tho!
Yeah it was security hurrying him along. His team were really nice though!
You are lucky he didn't yell JAAAAAAAA at your face
I cannot believe he is the subject of a Break Point episode when Jaaaa gate happened and they don’t even mention it
Too many cameras around.
Ultimate villain
I know this will not happen but can you imagine the scenes if Muzz gets a couple more wins and somehow sneaks it to the QF / Semis. Kokkanakis -> Batista Agut -> Ruud -> Fritz / Zverev -> Walkover (Djok's hammy will have snapped by then) -> Medvedev (L - he always loses the Final)
> (L - he always loses the Final) This is probably referring to Murray but it could me said about Medvedev too lol
Don't threaten me with a good time
Someone in Machac's box has fallen asleep. Probably jetlagged. But he's missing out!
Machac is balling this match. Respect to him. Didn't expect much from him, then again I'm a casual fan.
Casper I am at work, I cannot take this. It is 1 AM in Melbourne.
Casper's doing well saving break points. Anyway this match is fun to watch

Nice warm up session tomorrow
When is Wednesday AO schedule/courts released? Trying to see what time I need to head down to see Ostapenko.
Court 6 11am
Thanks!
Should be out now.
Cheers!

Right fuckin now Tomas

Ok, now I REALLY want see a Rune - Ruud semi-final.
Uh huh yeah sure we believe that. It's okay to want to be famous and to promote the sport, but he should be honest that he likes the attention too.
He said it is also good promotion for the participating players. But apart from that I don’t see your point. Nothing indicates he is interested in fame more than tennis. He wants to be known through tennis

Why is Rune a racist?
Sorry I should have said homophobic. He screamed the f word multiple times at an opponent.
Once when he was 16. He apologized and never repeated the behavior. If we're canceling Rune for that, then we have to cancel Fognini, Rublev, Medvedev and a dozen others.

Just ignore that person…
Your defence of a homophobe is telling. Maybe you should do some soul searching.
I am gay. But I don’t wanna play your games. Enjoy your day and your small boxes you can put people in.
Gay but supports homophobe's? Yeah you need therapy.
So you moved on from racist?
This Novak guy has some potential
Just tuned in for the match point. Great to see the King back in his house. Thanks for letting Rafa have one last year :P
Novak signing autographs and taking selfies.
Not to sound rude ( no pun intended) But Ruud being the 2nd seed has really made one half of the draw kinda dull Alcaraz missing out really took away some mouth watering clashes
Ι kind of enjoy this match with Machac
God damn Ruud is struggling with Machac
As I said a few hours ago, anyone thinking Ruud should crush Machac hasn't watched the Czech play. He's very good.
Yes but all the same a number 2 slam seed struggling against the ATP 110 (career high 97) is not what you expect at all. All the more bizarre given that Djokovic is seeded below him at 4 with the form that he just showed.
Well being banned from 2 slams, among other tournaments, and then not getting any points for the other slam you won will do that
yes. but it's just absurd, strictly going on the seeding and level of tennis.
I don't follow? Like you can't take seeding seriously for Nole due to what I said before. He almost definitely would still be number 1 if it weren't for that.
yes. hence it's absurd as it is.

Honestly it is pretty much what I expected, anyone who has followed Machac knows that ranking belies his quality. He's been winning a lot the last 6 months and will be top 50 soon.
No doubt that Machac has ability but the 4th seed would have destroyed him in 3.
Yes I agree...pretty irrelevant though
22nd straight win at the AO, where he’s trying to win his 22nd slam? Meant to be. Sorry, I don’t make the rules
This feels so right for Novak.
Novak being back in AO just feels right
Djokovic loves a nice bagel, great first match in what seems like the inevitable #22.
He’s the only baker that doesn’t eat bread.
How was Nole's leg? Looked very taped up. The few points I watched his movement seemed fine. He must also be on some pain killers to help
Anyone who is talking about his leg after his win is getting downvoted. It is just hilarious at this point and some comments were well meant. Just mind-numbing how defensive some fans can get
I'm just asking because I didn't see the full match and would like to know
It didn't hamper him a single bit after the first 4 games, earlier though it felt like he was a bit unsure and was testing the waters
WHAT I want Novak to sign my phone
Djokovic is incredible
AO isn't the same without Jim courier post match interviews
Indeed, he's the best interviewer.
He has a rapport with players, we're definitely going to miss some hilarious QA sessions, no other can dare to pull Rafa or Djokovic's legs
[удалено]
Lol I totally forgot that icon, I am sure he will popup during awards or did Kia stop sponsoring?
IDEMOOOO
Liking Ruuds kit. More men need to wear lavender.
djoko was different gravy today
Novak's played in 69 Grand Slams and made the Final 32 times! Hopefully another Final in 2 weeks!
Insanity. What a stat
Love the support for IDEMO❤️. What a display of tennis, it was a pleasure to watch. I wish his opponent well because he showed a great mindset despite being decapitated hope he does well In the clay season
Find the girl who is as upbeat as RCB's coach
Tbf Nole first round at the AO is one of the worst draws you could possibly get. Only Nadal at RG is worse imo.
True, his couch knew that, wholesome energy from that guy
Break point down, second serve and Machac throws in the S&V. Things you love to see. He can absolutely win this match.
I'm also not sure Ruud has the extra gears he might need if this ends up going to 5.
AO crowd loving Novak, how it's all changed so beautifully.
They never hated him the media just told you they did 🤷♀️
Media and angry Reddit nerds
Media do be like that
Djokovic won 93 points to Carballes Baena's 55. Brutal lol Lost only 4 points in the third set.
that's ridiculous. one of them was a forehand error on the right side to break, which he subsequently won the next point. he was just a terminator in that 3rd set. his ball striking is so clean
The suspended games will pick up at the score they started, correct?
No boob throw 🥹
Stream lags when it's mp😂idemoo
Lol at least at this point you know what's gonna happen so you can just use your imagination
Just tuned in to see Djokovic's return winner to make it 5-0 dayumm Carbralles Baena's grunt when serving tho🤣 didn't watch but I'm gonna entertain the idea that they were getting increasingly desperate as the match went on lool.
