Kerber is phenomenal when she's switched on.
I always thought David Ferrer would match the level of his opponents to an extent. Remember a game between him and Stanimal where they just exchanged cross court forehands in rallies forever
hewitt and davydenko come to my mind first.
Hewitt and Chang for true counter punchers.
Others will say Borg, Nadal, Murray, but they aren’t true counter punchers.
what I'll say is that I agree with you mostly, but I think Murray should be included in that list simply because counter-punching is the core of his game. He has other aspects to his game because (in my opinion) no player can reach the level of the big 4 without being a more complete player than being "just" a counter-puncher. Sorry if this is a bit incoherent it's late lol.
That’s fair but a slippery slope to Nadal and the other two as well.
For instance, counter punching was the ONLY thing in Hewitt and Changs bag
Although Murray is a true Scottsman.
Ofc I should have noted that
Kerber and ASV on the women’s side.
Probably Hewitt on the men’s side.
Djokovic is the ultimate counterpuncher. Just because he’s aggressive from both wings does not mean he plays amazing defense and counter-attack when needed.
Kim Clijster at her best is probably the best counter puncher against more powerful players like the Williams sisters and Sharapova. But Kim also had a great offensive game.
Djokovic’s counterpunching is unmatched.
This doesn’t mean he is solely a defensive player
Ferrer, Hewitt, Davydenko - in that order
big 4 - all amazing counter punchers.
Federer is a counterpuncher?
Murray is definitely one, but there are arguments that Djokovic is an aggressive baseliner. I just don't see half of the Big 4 being counterpunchers.
Not what I said. I said they are all great counter punchers. Not that they are just counter punchers. their conuterpunching is so good its generally better than anyone who more explicitly plays this playstyle. They are that good.
He's a pretty aggressive baseliner tbh
Peak Azarenka, now leylah, even Raducanu was good at it at USO
