For some context on Medvedev's achievement, he is only the 27th man to get to #1. In that time, there have been around 49 different men's slam champions. Only one guy has ever made it to #1 without winning a slam, but 23 have won slams without ever getting to #1, including several multiple-time slam champions.
Really elite stuff getting to #1. Congrats to Medvedev!
He won Grand Slam Cup, though, which was a Top 16 performers of Grand Slams during a year, defeating Agassi in the finals with a very [highlights](https://youtu.be/XxF6LVscYTY) worthy game.
Edit: that year, 1998, Ríos also played the finals of AO against Petr Korda, who was later that year sanctioned for doping in Wimbledon.
Interesting too that since 04, atp have had only 4 #1s while wta has had 17, but overall, both wta and atp have each had 27 #1s since rankings started, with meddy included. For so long, particularly in Navratilova-Evert and then Graf years, WTA was the portrait of consistency at the very top
>17 Different WTA #1’s
Surprisingly, despite this both tours have had the same number of #1s in total: 27. Though, the ATP rankings were introduced 2 years before the WTA rankings.

Interestingly enough there have been exactly 27 WTA number 1s as well.
Who's that one guy?
Marcelo Rios got to #1 and never won a slam. Also, Ivan Lendl got to #1 before winning a slam, but ultimately won 8.

Sure. No knock on Rios. But he never won a slam, which is all I was saying.
Sure, just adding on your comment. Cheers!

10 Olympics?
2004(6 days after fed took #1) 2006,2008,2010,2012,2014,2016,2018,2021,2022
Oh you meant Olympics in general. I thought you meant in the context of tennis aka just the tennis ones
Don't know why you're counting winter Olympics. Tennis can't be played outdoors in the winter
I also mentioned world cups. This was just to show time passed
Tennis needs to be a winter Olympics sport with an ice court.
Will someone think of the poor ball kids drying the court!

Interesting statistic
