Evans only there to collect the paycheck. I'd have thought he wanted to please his fans.
Berrettini is now out, due to positive Covid test. 😏
What's up with the bad sound of players hitting the ball? Sounds not as clean and with alot of echo?
Wimbledon haven't even uploaded their usual 2 minute highlights videos on YouTube. What a joke.
Djokovic trained with Cilic a few days ago... https://twitter.com/darren_cahill/status/1539965450075127813
new to this but what is the routine for suspended play, play first, play middle, play last?
They play second usually
I’m watching my DVR of the ESPN coverage from today. Jesus Christ, they open with Johnny Mac and his rant. I miss TC already.
OMG, yes! Brad Gilbert and someone else are commentating the Dimitri/Johnson match. 👍🏼
I don't know what he said but the best commentator is Robbie by a mile.
What did Old man Mac say?
Oh no I won't be able to watch Rafa today because of work. So sad. . .
Venus supposedly teaming up with Jamie Murray for mixed. Going for that gs in mixed.
Wasn't swiatek supposed to open center court?
She will do it on day 2. The last Wimbledon champion from ATP (Djokovic) did it on day 1.
Will there be highlights for each match? Does Wimbledon post them? Tennis tv?
Espn has great coverage of Wimbledon. I’m In the US btw
Wimbledon. Tennis tv doesn’t have the rights to the slams
Rafa has some supernatural ability to get out of hard draws, I bet he's going to use it for FAA as well tomorrow
Been massively disappointed by FAA so far in the grass court season and he couldn’t really have a tougher first round opponent than Cressy. Could see an upset.
he was definitely underwhelming but semifinal loss then QF loss isn’t anything to scoff at
Cressy is a nightmare first round, up there with Kyrgios and Draper.
Yeah...I like FAA but hoping he loses before playing Rafa
Look at me having Hurcakz win Wimbledon and lose R1 🤡
It happened to many. I don't know when/if there's his time to shine :(
I know; I so wanted him to win, too!
So now that Rafa is like completely healthy (he said it’s the first time in almost 2 years he’s pain free when he wakes up, can practice pain free, etc), do you think that changes the potential for where he and Djokovic end up?
Djokovic can’t travel to Australia or the US for the foreseeable future, and Rafa is playing about as good of tennis as we’ve ever seen and on top of it he’s healthy….like idk what to even think anymore about Rafa’s potential at this point
> Rafa is playing about as good of tennis as we’ve ever seen
This is obviously not true.
Lol okay? I’ve watched Rafa pretty damn closely since about 2004. This current Rafa is about the most well rounded he’s ever been in terms of offense, defense (with his slice), serve has come back to form, volleys are tremendous. Maybe he’s not always as flashy, but he can shift his tactics mid match when he needs to better than he ever could.
He’s also as close to a calendar slam as he’s ever been, so idk what you’re talking about regardless
2008 Rafa wasn’t going to 5 with FAA at the French Open
Well yeah, FAA was like 8.
Lmao, I liked this one too.
I blew air out of my nose
Doesn’t seem to be a very popular, but I also enjoyed my dumb joke.
*Joke was at -4 when I made this comment.
We will have a different perspective on both in two weeks.
I guess so, but I don’t really see how Wimbledon is all that telling. Regardless of the results, Djokovic would still be down 1 slam at best and can’t even play the next 2 slams coming up which Rafa would be a co favorite with Medvedev most likely.
And then Djokovic would return to the French where Rafa is a heavy favorite if everyone is healthy
Smh that someone can't see the value of a grand slam
We're all going to have different takes on this. For me, either one winning this slam is a game changer in terms of legacy.
Don’t see how this does much for Novak’s legacy besides keep him in touch with Rafa in the slam race. Same goes for Rafa unless he goes on to win the calendar slam.
How so? It’s like the weirdest Wimbledon of all time, turned into a pseudo-exhibition and banning some of the best players haha. I don’t think it really means all that much tbh. It does for Rafa in terms of year grand slam I guess
> banning some of the best players
There's only three relevant players that are barred and none have made a semifinal at Wimbledon. Unlike the Australian Open, the defending champion is allowed to defend their title.
> I don’t think it really means all that much tbh. It does for Rafa in terms of year grand slam I guess
Well, it either matters or it doesn't. Sounds like you want it both ways for the cope if Rafa loses.
The best grass players are playing for millions for a. championship that will last forever. Calling it a "pseudo-exhibition" is grossly underrating the event.
I think we just disagree lol. Which is fine. And I’m not even a Rafa fan, I’m a Fed fan. I just don’t see how this is THAT important in the grand scheme of things. If Djokovic wins, he gets to 21, which is still behind Rafa. If Rafa wins, he’s at 23 and is pretty damn likely to get the calendar grand slam….so I think it’s objectively more of a big deal for Rafa in terms of history
I guess it’s a big deal for Novak but more in terms of just staying close in the race especially given the fact he can’t even make up any more ground until May 2023 at a tournament Rafa owns
We’ll put! 👍🏼
It's so hilarious I think winning Wimbledon and getting to 21 slams has an impact. Hahahahhahahaa. HILARIOUS!
Oh I agree it has an impact. But you said “game changer in terms of history” which I just don’t see at all. Had Djokovic won the FO then that’s a diff story
I'll just say this as far as our disagreement goes, I had Djokovic in front of Nadal before the French Open. I don't use the slam count alone to make up my mind about who is the greatest.
Does Murray necessarily beat Isner? I'm not sure
Isner is a glass cannon. If his serve fails he’s screwed, and Murray just needs to break him once per set.
One does not simply break Isner's serve.
Not necessarily but it’s 8-0 in the H2H
no hate to isner but i’m wanting a deep run for murray so i hope he wins
Sorry if this is against the rules, but could someone DM me a link to watch Wimbledon on ? 🥺🥺
No need for subterfuge, get a VPN to the UK and use the BBC coverage.
Yeah BBC iplayer
Would’ve liked to see wawrinka have a good run but that’s okay. He really played against himself in that third set
Wimbledon is a ghetto grand slam in a white Gucci belt. Every year the scheduling is a hot mess
Does anyone know much about the lighting at wimby? Can the lights only turned on when the roof is fully closed? Not like at the other 3 slams where the lights can be on without closing the roof?
so why exactly do they stop play near 11pm anyway? they have lights... and a roof.
Edit: [Found it... curfew due to noise lol](https://www.essentiallysports.com/the-reason-behind-wimbledon-championships-curfew/)
The curfew is due to the planning permission for the roof being subject to a condition that does not allow the temporary plant related to the function of the roof to operate after 11pm.
> Temporary plant would be located south-west of the Centre Court during the Championship periods. The plant will only be utilised during the Championships. It would be placed behind the indoor tennis facility on land otherwise used for Championship car parking. The temporary plant would consist of 10 air cooled electric chillers, 6 generators, 2 oil storage tanks and a generator switch pump room which will require a total of 1140m2. This would supply chilled water, by a network of pipes to a pump room in the northern façade of Centre Court which will then be pumped to the 14 air handling units housed within the new fixed roof of the Centre Court. One of the 6 generators provided in the temporary plant will supply back-up power for the roof and sports lighting if necessary. A masked green acoustic screen will surround the temporary plant both to diffuse any noise and to ensure that the temporary plant is not visible.
> The temporary plant hereby approved shall only be operated during the Wimbledon Tennis Championship period other than for testing immediately prior to the championships, and shall not be operated prior to 0800 hours or later than 2300 hours or one hour after the finish of the last match on any day, whichever is the earlier. Reason for Condition:
In order to protect the amenities of nearby residents.
It's in a residential area and Britain doesn't really have a culture of late nights unless you're out on the town getting hammered. Totally normal rules here.
It's kind of crazy that such a huge sporting event is beholden to a curfew
I know; it brings in a ton of money to the area. So, the neighbors can’t put up with noise for two freaking weeks?! An antiquated rule. 😏
There's a curfew.
That was excellent stuff from Heather at the end
Looks like they're stopping Heather's match as well...
So Wimbledon doesn't do highlights anymore ?
You can watch it on the Wimbledon app
Why’d ESPN go off the air??? They’re still playing…. 🤨
ESPN is gonna espn. There coverage was an improvement over previous years.
I am manifesting Angie Kerber winning Wimbledon again
Rafa posting drunk-happy posts like crazy XD
Well done Andy. Watching Heather now and she's having a tough time. Still think she's hot though.
I didn't see Andy Murray's match. I just watched a highlight video of his best shots. Am I imagining it or was Andrew Cotter commentating on Andy Murray's first round Wimbledon match?
He was yeah. Him and McEnroe and an Australian guy called Todd Woodbridge whose name I vaguely recognise but I don’t remember who he is
Damn you make me feel jurassic lol. He was a very successful doubles player and won a ton of slams with Mark Woodforde. They were called 'the woodies".
Oops 😂 and ahhh cool
JUST CAME BACK TO SEE GOAT VAN RIJTHOVEN won his Wimbeldon R1 match in straight sets. I am very happy at the moment.
Mladenovic might have lost but she definitely has the "winningest" outfit on court
she's a doubles queen anyway. singles is just practice for her.
cilic is OUT due to COVID. rafa's 1/8 section now has a lucky loser replacing cilic. #21 seed van de zandschulp is now the most likely 4R opponent for rafa.
Nadal is very lucky with draws these days, his only pre-QF threat taken out by a virus. It's a shame, that could have been a good match.
> Nadal is very lucky with draws these days
Nadal just had to go through world #26, #9, #1, #3, and #8 in the last GS....
Imagine saying Nadal getting "very lucky in his draws" when the guy had Djokovic , alcaraz/zverev as his qf and sf matchups at the last major.
He also had a rough draw on paper at AO that was still rough in practice.. (shapo instead of zverev was still tough , berritini, Medvedev)
Memory of a goldfish
good for rafa. his AO and FO draws were shitty. he had to play either zverev or shapovalov (who always plays well against rafa) in the AO QF.
i hope this draw collapses like 2017 USO. it would be his first easy grand slam draw of the year.
You absolutely cannot call Nadal lucky with his draws. Did you not see his RG draw?
Of the big 3, Nadal definitely has had the hardest draws overall I'd say.
Are they gonna finish Watson’s match or will it be suspended ?
They have until 11pm curfew
They will finish its under the roof
what channel is showing the remaining wimbledon matches today in the US?
ESPN for live coverage. Tennis Channel for the replay.
For the 100th time, just get a VPN to the UK and use the BBC sport website.
Lol I have been using that for years. But it doesn't cast onto my tv so it's not as good as watching on my tv
They were asking for a us tv channel not a website
wow so it's not even airing on tv?? the state of tennis streaming in the us is ridiculous
Some cable providers have espn 3 through cable box. Don't know about the current availability.
Tennis coverage is ridiculous in the us, but it’s been on all day and there’s only one match still being played with unseeded players so I mean in this instance it’s not crazy
I remember when they used to say "from first ball to last ball" on espn tho.
Lmao Fucs complaining a while ago about losing QF points yet here he is crashing out R1, cmon bro
Absolutely demolished too. Big clown look for Fucsovic.
There was nothing at stake
I'm quite pleased to see Ivan Lendl back in Andy's box
Can't imagine how gutting it would be to lose such a lengthy and closely-fought first set
Heather too busy caring about her eyelashes
Heather girl how can you see through those curtains?
What did Duckworth do I couldn’t watch the match.
Good lad Andy, heard it was my birthday and decided to win for me, what a king
eat a cake bro
Happy Birthday 🎉
Jack Duckworth would’ve been better
Vera would have bossed that court.
If Andy loses they need to get Sue to do the on court interview, would hit me right in the feels
I hate being a Fognini fan
Any Andy win at Wimbledon I treasure like he just won the title. We don't know how many wins he has left on this court.
I admire the strength of Heather Watson's fake eyelashes. They're sticking with her through thick & thin.
Murray is balding fast, fuck
Nah he’s been balding for years. Just more noticeable because he’s cut his hair short.
SIR Andy Murray
So, Duckworth.... Bit of a dick no?
More like Dickworth.
Duckworth gotta be Duck-worthy
Heather why you hitting 61mph second serves 😭😭
Duckworth salty as fuck. Glad Murray destroyed him.
I enjoy Duckworth's saltiness.
Dickworth is kind of a tool.
What an absolute bizarre challenge lol
Duckworth seems really mad at Andy for a whole bunch of stuff that Andy never actually did
How come the Watson match hasn’t been suspended? I thought only center court had lights and a roof
Nope court one has had lights and a roof for several years.
Court 1 also has lights and a roof
Court One does too now.
Court 1 has one now too.
Duckworth seems like a massive prick
Andys new haircut is a bit of an L he should keep the hat on
Why's Duckworth so triggered lmao. Such a nasty handshake after the unneccesary challenge.
Also, is Murray limping?
andy has a bad knee due to a genetic deformity, similar to rafa's foot. one of his knees has a strange kneecap. called bipartite patella
they aren't exactly life-threatening deformities but they make playing a sport professionally incredibly painful
He lost his head after the 2nd set. Seemed very rattled
If Murray plays this well, I don't see anyone beating him at Wimbledon this year. So Good!
murray plays john isner followed by sinner followed by alcaraz/otte, LMFAO
this is all BEFORE the QF
And they all play Murray, a two time Wimbledon Champion. At Wimbledon, He is not in danger, He is the danger!
How many pints in mate?
He just lost a set to Ducksworth
it was his first set after the queens injury, djokovic was also a bit rusty and lost a set
And Djokovic dropped a set to Kwon
Duckworth why??? Why not just play the point. What a brainfart
Get in there Andy 🥳
Lmao what a shit way to end
Weird end to the match
Duck worth bro dude wtf
Well that was dumb from Ducksworth
What an awful challenge, dude just wanted to go home
The fuck was that duckworth
James a bit of a cold handshake there
Weird end there haha
Some epic chokes in the watson korpatsch game
Looks like Murray's worth more than a duck after all.
I fear Heather Watson's fake eyelashes are affecting her vision.
mury goat breaking exactly when he needed to!
Lmao I think the crowd have been on the sauce since 12pm
Hewitt during the first set: the man your mum left your dad for.
Hewitt now: your dad after mum ran off.
Duckworth gifted that break away, should be game over now.
Always forget how much I miss the commentary duo of Andrew Cotter and John McEnroe.
LETS GO ANDY serve this one out please
That was an amazing challenge by Murray.
Since when is duckworth using a pure strike?
Looks like Pure Drive with a white Wimby paint job
centre court sound acoustics are like a bullet.. definitely my favorite in tennis along with arthur ashe which is pretty satisfying as well
Kwons shots earlier especially
I’m a bit biased, but the first day of Wimbledon is the best day of the tennis season.
Didn't realize this but fognini lost to a dutch player in every major so far this year. 1R Griekspoor- 2R Botic-1R Griekspoor. Now he just has to lose to Botic in the US open 2nd round for symmetry
This is false, I was at that match vs Botic and he lost to an italian that day 😉
Did Stan put up a good fight ? How was his shape ?
I’d say he put up a fight. He’s just rusty. But it was so good to see him.
So my Felix Auger Aliassime wimbledon champ agenda was still very strong until he entered Newport, my local tournament…all I am saying Felix is that 250 points for winning newport>0 for Winning Wimbledon. Come play the true grass slam
Have you ever played on the grass courts there? Always wanted to but haven’t gotten around to it.
Not nearly Good enough or Rich enough but I do intend to do so someday
