What exactly is wrong with Serena? Does she just not have it anymore?
Will Rafa play Winston Salem ?
Always putting her fans through hell but we love her nevertheless. Go girl take it 😍
"i was thinking i should call my psychologist"
shes always soooo smiley and honest in her interviews
Shapo was dialed in today. Actually constructing points and waiting for his moment. If he could bring that game every day the sky is the limit.
Something changed for him halfway through the 2nd set against Tommy Paul. Suddenly he became a different player.
That’s sadly been his narrative for a few years now. Has all the tools but can’t consistently put them together
His point construction, variety, and serve have improved the past couple years, but as you say inconsistently.
Sabalenka took the scenic route but finally gets it done. She saved a lot of break points in the third sets with some great winners, and ONLY 6 double faults total
Shelby had at least 6 chances to break back in the 3rd set and couldn’t take any of them
Shelby Rogers is almost 30, consistently a danger to the top players (she’s the last person to beat Barty ever) and causes upsets left and right, that it’s surprising and a shame she still hasn’t won a WTA title yet :/
i really thought SJ was gonna be it. should she just chase a title and play more WTA250s or continue as is with majority higher level tournaments to keep her ranking consistent
How are these two still playing lmao
Both players trying to outchoke each other
To constantly yell like that after points when youre already a notorious loud grunter is crazy
She’s absolutely disgusting, seriously
This match is actually delivering
Sabalenka is so interesting. she knows she has some mental serving yips issue. she admits her level of play isnt the best. but she still sticks with her style no matter what, win or lose. her groundstrokes can be so good to cover up the serving mistakes, only some players are able to take advantage of the mistakes. youd think with her inconsistency and not being able to defend Wimbledon semis points she'd be out of the top 10, but there she still is. Saba this year can get knocked out first round but reach semis or finals the next tournament.
This is not “interesting”, if anything it’s literally the opposite. Not being able to problem solve and just sticking with your game plan of bashing the ball as hard as you can “win or lose” can’t possibly be interesting. What would be is changing that style when needed.
i mean its interesting cuz youd assume that would be how anyone would course correct and yet she hasnt. cuz shes still a top player despite the issues. her aggressive ball bashing style requires trust in her shots to be winners. so the serving yips is some sort of mental confidence issue and yet she still has supreme confidence in her groundstrokes. its wild.
I've said it before she's emotionally weak but mentally/psychologically strong. It is fascinating.
ohh that might be good phrasing for it yeah
Shocking news: people can’t control when to pee
Is she supposed to pee on court while playing? Not every bathroom break/MTO is tactical
Not at all. Saba goating would blow Shelby Rogers off the court, no offense to her.
She's a streaky player, and she's going to streak. We also don't know what was happening with Rogers (physically or mentally, pee, women issues, going insane etc) nor do we have or will ever have the counterexample. So it's just a weird thing to harp on imo.
All Rogers has to do is hold serve and wait for the inevitable implosion Saba will eventually have on one of her service games
Sabalenka is so badass
Does Sabalenka have some sort of undiagnosed mental disease? What in the actual fuck
Find out on Netflix this Fall!
See the overall damage Nadal's loss causes. Both Iga and Shapo lost motivation to play any further...😔
Coric is playing out of his mind though which is nice.
Lol how is this not over?
Today she's gone easy with the DF's so far, but i would be so motivated playing against Sabalenka's serve, even when down 40-0. Knowing if i get one point, a random 2 or 3 DF's could very well happen next, would be such an uplifting fact
What a weird and oddly amateurish decision by Rogers to go for a toilet break now. Shouldn’t let Sabalenka think too much
Sometimes you really need to use the restroom especially after two hours of sweating and drinking hella water. And since female players are finally talking about playing on their periods and the hardships with that, you’ll be forced to use the restroom at some point
Sabalenka is a ticking time bomb right now. She was pacing at the back of the court. Sound strategy from Rogers in my opinion.
Why is it amateurish? Lots of people take toilet breaks after 2 sets
peeing on yourself would be even more amateurish
Hey, no one has done a post match thread on the Shelton/Norrie match, who's got a hot take for me? Really curious how he went from destroying Ruud to getting demolished himself
Mix of nerves/lack of experience. Norrie returns everything and is consistent, Shelton had a super loud cheering squad that were cheering obnoxiously from point 1, I think it made him more nervous
Pulling off one massive upset isn’t *that* hard.
Pulling off two in a row is a way, way bigger ask.
Shelton is clearly a tour level player, and he has a WMD grade serve. But he played *flawlessly* against Ruud. 100% the match of his life.
Coming off that emotional high and beating another player of similar caliber would be Herculean.
This is exactly it. The speakers were also too loud from center and they were calling points for the Alcaraz match clearly loud enough for court 3 - not ideal for this level of competition for him. But legit Norrie didn’t put a foot wrong
Nicely put. I'll look forward to seeing him play sometime, all I've caught so far were the Ruud match highlights.
His loss to Isner in Atlanta was a phenomenal match.
Classic serve bot war that puts you close to sleep at the start and then suddenly you’re having a heart attack because of how thin the margins start to get.
I mean he's a kid, I think that explains most of it
True enough! I was just interested in how that manifested in his game — one particular shot type failing, general fitness, whatever. It's just as possible there's no clear picture, though
Damn Shelby you go girl
I can’t recall someone losing their confidence to this agree - I know that us open loss was crushing to sabalenka but this is hard to watch at times
Sabalenka choking as usual 😔
Why doesn’t Sabalenka have a sports psychologist?
Sabalenka with the baseline down-the-line line-clipper smash winner
lmao that Saba shot that even she had to laugh about being in
Shelby Rogers huge FH
just tuned in. this umpire is the obsessed giorgi hater from tenerife
I remember that match. Giorgi's dad unsurprisingly was acting like a prick through most of it.
Sabalenka was doing so well with only 1 DF in the entire match up until she had to serve it out 🤦🏽♀️😶
And when Saba wins the USO, then what?? 🥺🥺🥺
Don’t have to worry about that
Difficult shot by Rogers. Sabalenka kept that slice pretty low.
That was an odd miss
Cincy draw is boring 😴
This might seem inappropriate, but is there a trans ball boy in Cincinnati?
The ball kid behind Rogers looks like they were born xx.
I haven't seen the kid you're talking about, and I'm not sure what xx means, but I'd advise against making assumptions based on someone's looks. It's also not really any of our business.
It was an innocent question, relax.
I think they're referring to FTM transition.
That kid is a girl, I saw her wearing the female outfit in other matches.
Always seen her wear the boys outfit wunce the beginning of the tournament.
To me the biggest surprise of the tournament is Coric who comes out of nowhere to play the spoiler again. Dude is on fire right now. He needs to win a title somewhere along the line but right now FAA has his hands full.
Sabalenka been serving pretty well in the tournament so far, hopefully she can keep it up for the rest the season
It seems Sabalenka has got over her DF spell. She could be a legit contender at the US Open and even a title here.
I fear that anyone who keeps up with her without missing is going to lead her to implode, just like that semifinal last year.
And the DFs can come at any time when the pressure gets tough, so it'll take more time before those demons are fully ousted.
The people want another Bullshit Russian/Small Kid showdown
Sabalenka has a slight resemblance to Brooke Shields
The current Brooke Sheilds, yeah.
yes the forehead eyebrow shape. very different mouths.
WTF is this music they are blasting?
Cincy is a 2nd class masters event, they blast music during the matches
In the doubles of the Santo Domingo challenger, 3 out of 4 quarterfinals have been walkovers. Has this ever happened before?
Man I really hope we get an Alcaraz Medvedev final.
Pretty sure Medvedev and Rublev are the only players in the top 15 at least he hasn’t played this year.
(Medvedev did obliterate him in the first round of Wimbledon in 2021)
I don’t think Carlos has played Felix yet
He retired after the first set in their USO QF last year
Not a full match, but they played at the US Open last year (Alcaraz retired down a set and a break)
And this is only barely in the last year of course—not this year as I originally phrased it.
They played at the us open. Carlos had to retire
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Hopefully we’ll get a proper match between them on Saturday
If they win tmrw lol
What is 'Lupas'??
Google Translate says “magnifying glass”.
Lupa is Spain spanish mean magnifying glass
Why did he write that on the camera?
Couldn't it be his "hand on eyeball" signal thing that he does whenever he wins? (He said that it's an inside joke with close friends)
Carlos has such great sportsmanship
Alcaraz avenging Rafa's loss, you love to see it
Both dudes are cool dudes
Professional performance against a solid Cilic
Great game by Alcaraz
This is an incredibly impressive performance by Alcaraz. Cilic actually played phenomenal tennis for most of the match. This was a very in-form Cilic.
Alcaraz had all of the answers
No need for the snark.
What the hell are you on about. There was no “snark” in my comment
Way to overanalyze my comment, though
I assumed you were sarcastic, sorry. Cilic was far from good.
Cilic was very good, especially in the first set. He was hammering the ball and pressured Alcaraz on almost every serve outside of his first 2 service games
Lol I was at the match live and Cilic did not play well by any standards ……
Alcaraz advances, getting pretty good support here. He will face Norrie
Carltos needs to use the drops more often
Other than those DFs this was pretty flawless, but Cilic was also pretty shit. Vamos Charly
Cilic has been playing exceptionally, but Alcaraz has had the answer to damn near everything Cilic has sent his way.
I only saw second set. Where was Cilic’s forehand today?
Getting returned more than should be possible
Literally just commented the same thing. Very impressive performance from Alcaraz and quality tennis from both players
An ass kicking of the highest caliber.
Sometimes you need 5 winners to win a point against Alcaraz
It’s so nice to see Alcaraz converting break points
Way to go Charlie
Cilic tapping out
carlitos cruising!! you just love to see it
(love u tho marin)
Come on, Marin! Make Baldo proud!
Cilic is tryíng too much at times this game
tbf he has to dictate and hit through Alcaraz, it's his only chance at winning
JFC telling Carlitos to shot at Cilic feets worked great
Lot of empty seats for a Masters 1000 event it seems
It's late and Americans go to bed early
WTF Shelby?! So tight through most of that set only to give it away with ue's?! 😫
Cilic missed many backhands today
PCB always supporting his son 🥺
He was in the crowd? Or is it some joke I don't understand lol
That dude was frozen solid when the camera was on him
Ruud has to be embarrassed right now, no way around it lol
I am neutral between Alcaraz and Cilic
I really like Alcaraz because he’s the first young player I’ve been right on in forever.
But how can you not love some Marin Cilic?
His resurgence this year has been a treat
Two of the nicest guys on tour
oh god my high seas are down
am i the only one who enjoys rooting for sabalenka just as much as i also enjoy watching her implode.
Good to see the Alcaraz drop shot, I missed it
Alcaraz do a lot of fist pumps
People who complain about Nadal's serving time have never watched Cilic
He bounces that ball about 30 times istg
Does Alcaraz have the best serve for his height and shorter? Or is there anyone better?
Baez serve is not bad and He is only 1.70m tall
In terms of consistency, probably not. But the power is very impressive for someone his height.
Alcaraz is now in his own head after the DFs and going easier on the 1st serves. Don't know if it's the right strat
How can you say he’s in his head after that hold 😂
I think it was trickier than it needed to be because he's taken some heat off the 1st
Perhaps he didn’t want to double fault a million times in a row again
BIG hold from alcy boy. was almost a quick break back.
great hold by Alcaraz
Alcaraz up 3-0 in 2nd set now
something should be done about grunting. this shit is so dumb.
I really don’t need this court level side angle where they slowly zoom in on one player and then switch to the normal angle
The number of points Cilic has won while hitting multiple shots that would be winners against 99+% of players is ridiculous
Tennis legend Ciilc gets the lovely volley and the crowd likes ! They appreciate him
Sabalenka wins 4 in a row, Rogers wins 4 in a row. 4-4
Now Saba on the verge of another 4 lol
Is that JCF’s son next to him?
No that’s Alcaraz’s older brother
Do you mean younger brother? He looks about 12 or 14
Alcaraz’s shirt is extremely red
Bright Orange in person
It kinda hurts my eyes
Alcaraz now must escape from Alcatraz
Being in Alcatraz is facing a break point, escaping break point. Inside joke
i like how sabalenka's grunt stops abruptly when she sees she hit the ball into the net.
Ohio, what do you think of... Alcatraz !
Must hold here for him
We think he should play football at Ohio State but understand his decision to play tennis
Sabalenka has gotten in less than half of her first serves, but somehow has only hit 1 double. Improvement?
Mertens/Kudermetova taking out their frustrations on Dabrowski/Olmos. 6-2
C'mon Shelby!! 💪
alcaraz breaks to start the second! hopefully he hangs onto it this time and doesn’t pull a tommy paul repeat
Cilic spraying shots left and right
I love Alcaraz stepping in to return, it's been very effective
The difference between Alcaraz winning a Slam and not is his first serve not disappearing in chunks.
He's theoretically talented enough to do it despite that
Cilic making some bad misses
I really wanted Ben v Charly for battle of the teens
Is it just me or has the Attendence been awful in Cincinnati so far? I mean so many empty seats even close to the courts.
Montreal had a great Crowd imo. Even Toronto had good specatatorship.
Here I am stuck looking for a single match with full stands. Which is unfortunate since I think matches like Kokkinakis - Sinner deserved more people watching.
Granted most have showed up for the American matches, but it's crazy how much lower the viewership is.
I was gonna make a remark about how Cincinnati is the 30th largest city in the us while Montreal is the second largest city in Canada.
But then I saw that Cincinnati apparently has a larger population than Montreal which is wild
My thing with that is, Population isn't gonna matter if it's a Tennis Town. Even IW was awful with its Audience outside of Rafa Matches, not until people realised Carlos was a star did the audience start to gravitate towards another player.
Then we had the Kyrgios Resurgence so he carried Viewership in a lot of the tournaments from the start of Grass season, but now he exited early, and Rafa is gone early too.
Carlos doesn't have the same Aura as he did back in just before RG, he's still a ridiculous Young Talent, but he isn't on the Trajectory of a Young Nadal rn (Just from the Perspective of an Audience, I already know his further Ascent can take time, he's so young, but casuals don't care, they want the next Big 3 already).
And so since 2/3 of the Big 3 aren't there most tournaments, and for past month and half we've only had 1 match from a Big 3 member, and lack of A "Big Personality" outside of Kyrgios, and there you have the spectacular lack of Specatatorship.
Alcaraz tactically recovering his tiebreaker stats after the Paul match
