In Penko's first service game, every point was decided by her winners, her UE's, and her DFs. Broken to start.
Alexandrova be please win in 3, I dun want to miss Penko's "maybe last match in Seoul" I will back home within 1.5hrs🙏🙏🙏🙏
I still like what I see from Holt but he definitely lacks a clear aggressive strategy or patterns of play overall. I hope to see more of him on the Challenger tour. Sad that he couldn't retain any momentum in the third set (tonight's tennis has really all been about mental fortitude) but damn if that Lestienne forehand slice isn't just a hilariously wicked shot.
And I'm not afraid to admit that San Diego's court acoustics make watching tennis a pure eargasm. It's worth watching all year-long for it.
\[off-topic\] Tokyo things - I couldn't help but notice Zhang Shuai smirking when she won her first round match so easily; you could tell she felt bad but she was also so pleased with herself (as she should). And Pliskova has the same trying-to-hide-my-smile expression whenever she gets a lucky break point converted (example - beginning of set 2). It's just so funny.
Damn! I thought Raina was done for good. Haven't seen her win a main draw match since last year.
That's Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva's first tour main draw win! Convincingly at 6-2 6-2 over Paquet, too.
Pliskova is playing (and moving) so well
Lestienne has to be the frontrunner for the Bonzi award right?
Kenin's just beyond garbage right now. Literally all Gomez did for most of the game was just return the ball and Kenin just beat herself.
45/151 points in this match came from Kenin's errors. Like seriously a third of all the points came from one player's errors.
Ugh just so frustrating as a fan of hers. She doesn't even look unhealthy, and she looked miles better at Cleveland against imo better opponents. Like I feel hopeless about her chances as a fan, can't imagine how out of sorts she must feel.
Many fantasy draws including my own had Contreras Gomez winning this one; the Mexican novelist and mechanical engineer has made a name for herself qualifying for both USO and Wimbledon.
I'm not saying Gomez is garbage. That serve is great and forehand clearly has power, but for the vast majority of the match she didn't have to win it, just wait for Kenin to win it for her and it worked.
Usually when you see that many errors by someone it's a lot of difficult shots that were missed. Not today by Kenin. She was missing easy forehands and backhands over and over.
Don't disagree; Gomez served well (9 aces) tonight but Kenin hit two incredible winners to save match point then missed badly on last two shots.
And French Open!
I almost hope Kenin doesn't win until she runs out of tournaments to enter with her protected rankings. This is so ugly to watch. It'd be better for her to be forced to go through ITF/125s to build her rankings back up since she'll get a lot more reps and get confidence.
All these missed shots just scream bad mental because she's showing flashes of her past self too in between.
For anything JJ Wolf, check out r/jjwolf
So I'm watching the JJ Wolf match:
Wife: When was this match? Is this an old match you are watching?
Me: No, this is happening right now.
Wife: Then why does he look like that? (referring to Wolf)
Unlike what happened to people like Andreescu, Guga and Thiem, Kenin's problem doesn't seem to be solely an injury. She has some professionalism issues as well. Dating a weirdo, firing and hiring her dad back as a coach, etc, she was dropped by agency Top Five “due to difficulties with the athlete’s environment", etc
Kenin keeps trying to hit the margins she doesn't need to. That was a winner if she hit it comfortably in. Didn't need to be that hard.
Sigh Kenin again just spraying UFE everywhere. At least if she loses it'll be to someone with an ONB.
Wow, Contreras Gomez got her degree in mechanical engineering while playing tennis at Vanderbilt.
Hopefully Kenin can get some wins here in Tokyo.
Wolf's ugly mustache is way uglier than Tommy Paul's ugly mustache.
People on Twitter triggered that Djokovic is playing in Tel Aviv? That logic means that he should boycott Wimbledon and uso cause they’re apart of nato, and Serbia and nato of course have a dark history. Him playing doesn’t mean he supports every action of a country. People get upset over everything
Oh no... He said the words. It's no longer a meme anymore.
You keep asking someone the same questions, they're going to give an answer at some point. Not everyone has the tenacity of Rafa to give a boring non answer every time lol
That is gonna age poorly
I’m surprised he would go out and make a concrete prediction like that. What if Zverev never fully recovers? What if Sinner’s serve doesn’t improve? This is an even more ridiculous prediction than Zverev’s new big 3 of him, Djokovic, and Medvedev, who were the top 3 players in the world at the time.
Shang will not be coached by Rios anymore, his parents got in the way and fired him. A shame really, Rios was very invested but his parents seem to be a headache.
Shang seems to be a headcase too. Lost against Jordan Thompson last week and chopped at the umpire’s stand. Similar to what Zverev did earlier this year. Then he did a hand slashing signal to the ump. Dude should be suspended
Oh God, not the overbearing parents. Shang is doomed…
How are you guys in the UK watching tennis? Hook me up with a link please.
why do i get redirected to some random pornstars page when searching for r/tennis
Did your wife believe that weak excuse?
Is it Bernard Tomic?
Anyone off the top of their head have that link to the substack where the guy writes about tecnical aspects of pros strokes.
Did one on alcaraz's backhand, did one on stuff felix can fix on both sides
I think he moved https://www.onthelinetennis.uk/
karatsev is a very obvious fixer. i hope atp takes action soon.
The irony coming from a Zverev fan
I hope the ATP takes action on Zverev soon
Medvedev voluntarily playing an event with a bunch of Frenchmen? Man really likes living on the edge
I mean it is probably that they offered an appearance fee and he doesn’t have to travel too far from Dasha
Karatsev being sneaky with his fixing now. Getting bps in multiple return games but not converting do it looks like he’s trying, but then getting broken right away after
Karatsev is playing challenger level tennis again.
Well how else would friends get the best +odds before he takes the match?
Gaston channelling his inner Ostapenko with the hopefulness of that challenge
Haven't seen a sealdrop graph in a few days. feels good
I told my friend yesterday that if Daniil drew Stan i would sue france.
Lawyer up Macron
Daniil vs Stan ? Really? Confirmer ?
If stan wins his first round yes
Who does he play first round?
Stan once destroyed sousa
Would be curious to know the amount of ATP players in the Top 100 using a Blade.
Tennis nerd has an article that claims 16, as of march this year. Idk how accurate that is
That’s surprisingly few.
A guy who has won 3 slams shouldn’t have to go through qualies of a 250… but I respect the drive of him to still be willing to do that at his age at the twilight of his career. Tournament should have still given him a wildcard
They did give him a wildcard! To qualies 😂
I think he entered too late
Stan is still the man.
Stanimal cooking up some bagels in Metz
Stan bakery time????
This piros guy goes from holding comfortably to all of a sudden not winning a point 😂😂🤡
Laver Cup Session 1 Ticket for sale
Fri 23rd Day Session (1pm; Section 408, Row J, Seat 631)
Guaranteed to see Roger! transfer through AXS. DM me :)
How can you guarantee Federer is playing during the Day session?
He’ll be there for the inauguration where they present all players and the captains :)
Genuinely curious: how do people make this Reddit ticket transfer work?
If the person getting the tickets first never pays up, how would you know?
If the person getting the money first never gives you the ticket , how would you know?
I have one extra seat as the person going with me can only arrive for the night session.
I’ll send a blurred image of the QR but with the row/seat clearly visible. After the payment I can transfer the ticket through AXS. Or we can do 50% of price before and then 50% after. I’m open to suggestions
The first round is happening over three days in Tokyo and Seoul? That seems unusual.
People have been so quick to bury Medvedev. It’s like ya he had a bad year but he was also injured with that hernia since the end of last year, was treated absolutely terribly by Australian media, then got blamed for the invasion of Ukraine for no reason by players who used to be his friend, then he has his surgery, then gets banned from Wimbledon and clearly the pressure of #1 did get to him for USO swing. Not to mention that all the Russian playera have struggled this year since March (I am sure thats just a coincidence) People are acting like he is now at the Federer stage and ready to retire. He still made 2 grass finals, was looking great before running into cilic playing all time tennis at RG, yes USO was a bad loss but he isn’t done. He is so far from done.
who was his friend that blamed him for ukraine? not doubting i legit dont know
He's not done but this sub in general expects every player to have big 3 type of results.
What is abundantly clear is he's closer to a Hewitt than he is to any of the big 3 and he's very likely to be worse (by a substantial margin) than someone like alcaraz or even sinner when it comes to results over their careers.
Look at when Medvedev broke through.... it's extremely late and irregular for multi slam winning legends ( let's define it as Murray or more number of slams) to break through and win their first major that late.
He will have his chances but it's completely understandable that the expectations for Medvedev have cratered from " as talented as Agassi" ( go back to the AO thread this yr to see the idiocy) to as quiet as they are now ( someone with a chance but not the extreme favorite at any 1 particular slam)
The same applies to thiem. If you were to ask me,both thiem and zverev won't make a slam final again. Medvedev will but I'm not sure if he will win another major
I don’t think anyone is burying Med I mean he achieved world number 1 which very few people can say. There’s just a lot going on in general which has affected his game but I expect him to have a strong 2023
I’m intrigued to see Medvedev v Alcaraz
If he makes a full recovery , Zverev will be the biggest threat to the Alcaraz dominance .
Sinner has the wood over Alcaraz but his serve is terrible.
Medvedev on the other hand: I have no idea how he matches up against Alcaraz.
Zverev has always been a meme at slams
He had one good tournament, the 2022 French open, which happened to be the last thing he played before his injury, so people remember him as being at that high level, but let’s be clear, he is 1-12 against top 10 players in slams. And he may be good in masters but Alcaraz still rolled over him in Madrid, which is supposed to be Zverev’s tournament.
Sinner matches up well against Alcaraz, but he is still the world number 10 and has never made a slam semifinal.
Medvedev has been a very good hard court player but Alcaraz can run up the score on clay
Djokovic will probably be able to play more tournaments next year so honestly I think he will be the biggest threat to Alcaraz
There is honestly so much revisionist history with Zverev’s 2022 season. Bad atp cup, bad AO, bad loss in that post AO 250, attacks the chair umpire in Acapulco(which everyone forgot somehow. Bad losses at IW and Miami. Demolished by stef at MC, bad loss in Munich, and then at RG he should have lost to Baez but Seba started spraying tons of UFE, and has been terrible ever since. And honestly he doesn’t seem to have approached the recovery in a smart way and I don’t see him coming back to a high level
Wait how has zverev not approached his recovery well? I thought he was making great progress
He over practiced and reinjured himself
Edit; guys why are you downvoting me I am literally quoting what he fucking said in the PC)
I mean he absolutely decimated him at Wimbledon but that was shortly before his breakout and his 2nd tour level grass match
Yeah I mean Medvedev was number 2 and Alcaraz was number 75 at the time so I don’t think that result is worth much
I literally explained why it doesn’t matter much. I just described the match and people get mad apparently
Sherif saved 12 (Twelve) match points in the second set and now Maleckova is the one who saves one, breaking Sherif serve when she was serving for the match.
Zsombor Piros wins the 1st set against Wawrinka and it is deserved, young Hungarian was much closer to break Stan but he couldn't convert his break points, still got the job done in the tie-break.
Every time you think Dominic Thiem is back , he gets absolutely hammered by a half decent player
Can’t even imagine what it must be like to be Murray/Thiem right now: to know that if you had your full powers , you’d be destroying these people with your left hand and to lose to them this badly.
Outside of his Challenger results, Gaston has had a miserable year on hard court. 3-11 at tour level in 2022 and 0-4 since his win over Isner in Miami. Korda should win in straights.
Karatsev and Sonego are both so inconsistent that it's difficult to predict.
Trick shot Guy Can make juste si mamy dropshots.
LETS GO STAN
So Jesika Malečková had 12 match points and still lost the 2nd set. Is this some kind of record?
How is the absolute FUCK did Mayar Sherif just win that second set lol
Pliskova is always so well dressed. I love her style!
I can't wait to see what the girls wear to the wta finals this year, they never go together so it's a hot mess 😂😍
Plishy if she ever makes it gonna EAT. Iga will wear her grandma’s curtains like she did last year and those god awful shoes. Ons I feel has the potential to slay. I really liked her outfit at the NYFW. But yeah the WTA needs to hire a group of proper stylists for the finals 😭
Ostapenko will be there for the doubles so that is very exciting! I think Iga will be better this year, her slam photoshoot outfits have improved
L-R: Misaki, Karolina, Bia, Gabi, Paula, Caro, Veronika, Elise, Yuki.
Wow didn't recognize Bia at all with her hair down.
So if Nole had won 2020 US Open and then had the 2021 he had, would it be considered a Nole Slam 2.0?
The reason is , after Wimbledon 2021, he’d be holding all 4 trophies at the same time .
However, he’d have lost a FO final to Rafa in between winning the US Open 2020 and Wimbledon 2021
A question for the ages.
Edit : downvotes for asking an interesting question: you have to love how the Fedtards are seething at a hypothetical Djokovic achievement.
No, it wouldn’t, because he didn’t win four in a row
But if he went home after Wimbledon 2021, he would have all 4 trophies in his room at the same time.
Doesn’t matter, he didn’t win four in a row.
Also, your edit absolutely makes you seem like a complete jackass, so nice work.
Didn't he defeat Rafa at RG 2021?
They’re asking that if he won the 2020 US Open (August) and the first three Slams of the year in 2021, would it still count as four in a row even though he lost to Rafa at the 2020 French Open (October).
Got it! 👍
rg 2020 was after uso 2020, where he lost in the final
Aah! I forgot 😯
Is Fucsovics fighting injuries or just not very good anymore?
this grunt from papamichail is enough for me to change the channel….
I'm sure there's a grunting afficianado out there; wonder how Despina's would measure in decibels versus Sharapova or Seles?
I hear ya
Badosa x Zheng is looking like of the those matches where Badosa will show up and show how it would've been if she cared, like in the Kvitova and Gauff matches. Qinwen is absolutely the favorite for this match.
I’m brand new to tennis. Fell in love with watching the US Open. Jumped right in and subscribed to Tennis TV. Very eager to follow my first ATP and WTA tours in 2023.
I’m having an issue with the app, however. It tells me there is a Moselle Open match streaming but when I click on it all I get is a blank screen.
Is this a common problem with live tennis on the app? Thank you for any help.
UPDATE: The desktop says they’re not currently broadcasting. I suppose they don’t broadcast qualifying matches. If that’s the case then why list matches as currently live?
Which match you enjoyed the most in us open?
Sinner - Alcaraz
That’s the one that did it for me. So much fun to watch.
TC+ lists Moselle Open as starting at 6pm local time with Hugo Gaston v Seb Korda; I believe they use the same camera feed as Tennis TV.
Thanks. I’m pretty sure that even though Tennis TV is listing the match as “live” that it’s not, that they don’t show qualifiers. Who knows though.
I'm not sure about your situation either, but I just wanted to say welcome to tennis, and I hope you continue to enjoy it!
It’s rad! Feel like a fool for not getting into it until middle age.
I watched the Chennai Open final and Fruhvirtova’s coach was wearing a Mets hat so, naturally, she’s a player I’m going to follow.
She is only 17 so very promising! She had great tenacity and fight yesterday
Hello everyone, I'm writing on behalf of many people. I hope I'm not breaking the rules of this reddit.
We are really desperate. There are a lot of problems with the upcoming ATP 250 tournament in Tel Aviv. (The tournament Djokovic and other top players will be at after the Laver Cup).
Are there any ATP people here that could help us, the desperate people? After trying everything, the ATP is our last resort.
I'll attach an article in Hebrew about the situation. If you want, you guys could translate it and understand why it's so frustrating (I don't know how to upload translation here). hopefully the translation will be somewhat good.
ps: if you decide to watch the tournament, on Wednesday (the 28th) there's a chance you'll see people fighting over seats in the stands, reading the article will help you understand why. And sorry in advance, I promise the Israeli crowd is not always like this.
psps: sorry for bad anglit (english in hebrew)
pspsps: it's my first reddit post pls be kind I'm a technophobe
According to the venue's website, there will be no games played during the holiday.
Kinda sus that you claim not to know English but you know what “PS” is .
>why would they host a tournament during the high holidays?
They said it was the ATP’s decision, no other dates were available. But I wish I had an answer to why it’s a good idea to host a tournament when half of it will be without audience
2nd consecutive first round loss for Riske. 😓
welcome to the last week of Roger Federer as active player
Someone put a lot of salt in their morning cereal
The Tokyo courts are looking fantastic. Indoor hard courts always have this stunning atmosphere even when watching on a screen
Same ones as the Olympics
Sad going out in her home tourney, but no shame losing to Queenwen!
Pretty wild Laver Cup is just team DILF and their adopted sons.
How likey is it that the rumours of Federer–Nadal playing an exhibition match to reopen the Bernabeu will come true?
What would be the best way to keep an eye on tickets for this? I've never been to an exhibition game before and it would be an amazing spectacle.
This rumour was years ago. But once again it's making the rounds. Tbh if it happens, they should make full tennis event and invite bunch of tennis players including Federer nadal. But I don't think this rumours will be true.
Good morning to everyone who has the [Chennai Open theme song](https://twitter.com/ChennaiFlights/status/1571077719781437441?t=59yxk8cTj6dyFl4EnJVUtg&s=19) stuck in their head like me.
Haha this is brilliant! WTA people if you are watching, pls do theme songs for more of your events!
I love that they have a song!
They really went all out for a 250! The theme song, the crowd...so nice seeing this sort of enthusiasm for WTA! I hope WTA keeps Chennai on tour but maybe give it a better date like sometime in January or February when it's not this warm there.
Definitely. The tours should appreciate the tournaments that have amazing crowds
