spankyourkopita

I never thought Emma was gonna blow the match but man she's the most toughest player to watch right now. I get so worked up watching her play even though I knos the bar has been set too high. I just keep my expectations low but shes so frustrating to watch still.

spankyourkopita

What happened to Caroline? She was a rollercoaster of emotions the last 2 sets. You could just sense she was gonna lose because of the frustration.

[deleted]

When she won the USO something a lot of people said about her game , including the opponents she beat, was that she played fearlessly. And we saw that up until the first set of match points. And we’ve seen it recently sometimes like when she beat Azarenka and Serena. But it has been more or less absent for most of the last year. She needs to try and regain that mindset by any means possible

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I think she’ll feel ok once she talks to her coach

spankyourkopita

He didn't look too worried in the stands. Was on his phone while Emma lost the 5-0 lead.

[deleted]

Emma’s serve when firing is underrated. Two aces and big one to win.

overtired27

That’s gotta suck for Uchijima. She really struggled to find her length in set 1 and most of 2. Then so close to taking it to a third with all the momentum on her side.

[deleted]

Yes but she couldn’t do anything about the lash three points

overtired27

True

Bonoahx

Good Emma won but that was a pretty bad second set, she really needs to stop choking these leads

[deleted]

It was a great second set at 5-0 40-15

Jezza2812

fucking hell thank fuck for that jesus

icecreamwithketchup

Ok Thank god, she got over the line. Not a good sign, but at least she won

drunksage

Where the hell did those aces come from?

[deleted]

I know haha

jimthree60

Thank Christ. I swear these days every match Emma plays I get five years older.

spankyourkopita

Why? She's the only player I watch and get massively frustrated. Its not fun fo watch her because there's always some sort of disappointment.

[deleted]

Ha same *some one will call us simps*

overtired27

Three aces to finish this would salvage something at least! Edit: well that’ll do… but yeesh

kamikashi

Badosa vs Zheng could see another upset brewing with both of their current forms

rubbish_bin030121

If Zheng beat Badosa, I will forgive her beat penko in us

kamikashi

Rybakina :( was surprisingly close to pushing it to a third set but nope

revolversbreath

emma first set: “oh, looks like she’ll blitz wta seoul.” emma second set: “erm, probably not.”

Jezza2812

the worst thing about this is that now, even if Emma manages to battle through and clinch it, the psychological reinforcement/momentum that this match could have brought her is going to be completely shot through

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yes she needs one. Can she have iga’s?

overtired27

How to choke on a bagel

[deleted]

Four games in a row I can’t even 5-0 and 40-15. To lose now would be unforgivable

icecreamwithketchup

Emma, please don't pull the biggest choke of the year after completely dominating

[deleted]

It would be bizarre. But would also make her team realise her issues are mental.

icecreamwithketchup

Players without mental coaches are just shooting themselves in the foot, it's as necessary as a physio these days

[deleted]

Do we know if she has one or not?

icecreamwithketchup

If she does I haven't heard her talk about it. Definitely doesn't have a traveling mental coach like Iga

Jezza2812

we've managed to go from what was looking like a very comfortable first round match over in under an hour to a genuine chance, if she wins this service game, that Uchijima gets back into the match and takes it to a very nervy third. Absolute insanity

[deleted]

She needs a head doctor

razorsharp3000

Raducanu girl wyd

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I may have to turn off

revolversbreath

jesus wept. emma. i have a meeting in 10 minutes. she should’ve won it serving at 5-0. what is going on.

Bonoahx

Lol fuck sake Emma

[deleted]

Massive unravel.

icecreamwithketchup

I wouldn't be too surprised if Emma lost after being 6-2 5-0 40-15 up. Completely falling apart

[deleted]

She’s prob now shitting herself. If she loses this she needs to get a psychotherapist quick. 5-0 and match points what they actual fuck

[deleted]

Wtf is she doing

Jezza2812

how on earth has Emma not closed this out yet ffs

[deleted]

Mental issues. I really think she has

[deleted]

So Emma has two match points. At 5-0. Then plays horrendous 7 points. Whhhhyyyy

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Horrible 7 points. And I think is evidence of a mental block she has right now.

Jezza2812

there goes the bagel

overtired27

Dang, was looking forward to my breakfast bagel. 🥯

Jezza2812

was that someone in the crowd with flowers to give to Emma at the end of the match lol

[deleted]

probably a simp... why does she have so many of them??

[deleted]

Haha

AlliterateAlso

Emma is going to spend the next ten years of her career going back behind on every putaway attempt, only to surprise everyone and go open court on championship point at Wimbledon 2030.

[deleted]

Ha. She does it a lot for sure

[deleted]

Emma is pushing that first serve sometimes. Her first serve percentage is very low. She’s winning comfortably but, needs to fix this serve

Tricky-Author-8226

Dasha really got injured again. What even is that luck? Some athletes just can't catch a break with injuries.

[deleted]

I saw it. Her knee just seemed to go on a routine movement. It’s a shame. She’s been building some momentum and has only been back for a year.

Tricky-Author-8226

All that effort this year to get from ~#600 to top 50 again and this happens. What a shame.

[deleted]

This guys predictions lol https://lastwordonsports.com/tennis/2022/09/20/wta-seoul-day-3-predictions-including-emma-raducanu-vs-moyuka-uchijima/amp/

araheem94

Why are these matches still going on? Shouldn't we be mourning till the Friday night session

Tricky-Author-8226

Tennis is bigger than just one player. There's some amazing tennis happening right now. Deserves to be watched.

[deleted]

What are you talking about

usurp_jiw

Ooof Emma defo should have won that at the net

AlliterateAlso

She should have, but moving forward to attempt to end the point is still progress, of a sort.

[deleted]

She won the set easily.

overtired27

Nice to hear the small crowd are clearly involved from the start.

Jezza2812

Right, here we go again then Emma...

AlliterateAlso

Doesn't make a single first serve, Holds to love anyway.

Jezza2812

Before Uchijima's error at the start of this game I was going to ask what the longest sequence of consecutive points held on serve between two players in history was lol

overtired27

I dunno but a lot more than 8!

Jezza2812

That's for sure, there has to have been some match where a whole set or more was just 40-0 holds haha

GGartz

I watched Uchijima in US Open qualliies - I thought she was pretty good, I think the best young Japanese prospect, in part because she is much taller and has a bit more power than most of the others. Might not be easy for Emma, well nothing is right now.

[deleted]

First set was pretty comfortable

[deleted]

[удалено]

aweap

Am shocked that KRISTYNA has the record and not KAROLINA! 😳

[deleted]

What’s more interesting is she hit 27 aces and 67 winners and lost the match

ExcuseYou-What

honestly still have no idea how to feel about the Garcia/Zhang match so many screaming winners so many unnecessary errors so many crazy moments (the 3rd set tiebreak from Zhang like wow) I was expecting some great hitting based on their history but this was definitely *something*

[deleted]

It was a great match. The key was zhang defence and accuracy. Hardly any unforced errors. 3 in the last set. 1 double fault all match

ExcuseYou-What

oh my god the way Caro had **eleven** more points than Zhang at the end? and a nearly +20 differential btwn W and UE? this will sting for quite a bit. she was simply not clutch at all today.

AlliterateAlso

67 winners (including 27 aces) from Caro vs 8 UEs (in the last two sets) from Zhang.

OwenRey

Really great tennis from both of them. So many fantastic winners from Garcia but Zhang just wouldn’t go away and stayed so consistent. So much fun watching that match!

icecreamwithketchup

Zhang was so clutch. Stayed super solid and let Caro beat herself.

nicoc9

Wow. Impressive match and win from Zhang. Ridiculous beautiful ball striking.

OwenRey

what a match. Amazing point by Zhang to get to 5-3. So good!!!

nicoc9

Ridiculous from Zhang! 🔥🔥🔥

ChaosOnTheRoof

I need to go to bed but this Garcia/Zhang match is the shit

poopoojoefocker

Lol how did Fruhvirtova beat Linette in the final?

Chosen1gup

It’s a 13+ hr traveling from Chennai to Seoul. Fruh is probably just tired from the past couple days.

icecreamwithketchup

Caro's ultra aggressive return position is sometimes really great and works amazingly, but other times she misses so many returns trying to hit winners that it doesn't work at all

GGartz

She's a very interesting interview, if you haven't watched her press conferences from the US Open, I'd recommend it. She's very open and thoughtful and basically, she said that she has had to trust this method to return her game to this level and can't deviate from this ultra-aggressive approach, even if its not working in a match.

icecreamwithketchup

It's a great strategy overall, I just think she should mix it up at least a little bit. If it's a crucial point, make the return, don't dump the ball into the net going for broke. Especially on days where she's missing too much

GGartz

It's a good plan, but its not as easy as it seems. On the Tennis Podcast, they talked about another player who said that to change her strategy was to admit that her game wasn't good enough to win. The mental confidence high-wire is so fraught in this sport. For Caro, who this year has reminded everyone that she is one of the most talented players on the tour but has spent literally years in the wilderness, sticking with an extreme strategy seems justifiable.

spankyourkopita

Wow I did not know Zhang is 33! She could pass for 18.

GGartz

Shuai has had a wild career. Went out in the 1st round in her first 14 slams, before making the QF in Australia when she was like 27. Now playing some of the best tennis of her career at 33 and holder of multiple doubles slams. I love both of these players, not sure how I feel about the aggro they are developing for one another. For sure, this is probably not a great sign for Caro - she was so even tempered all through the summer, but is having trouble keeping her anger in check even though she is still playing brilliantly.

ExcuseYou-What

oh *dear* whenever Garcia's game is off by just a slight margin, playing ugly is never going to be in her vocabulary she still did well to get to a tiebreak from a break down but this third set will be interesting Zhang isn't gonna give her anything

spankyourkopita

I'm curious to see if she mentally recovers.

Regular_Antelope4137

Zhang Shuai: "I need something to eat, breads etc"

Mediocre-Credit-4170

I’ve been wondering this for a while but anyone know who that woman is that’s always sitting right next to Caro Garcia’ coach? I’ve always seen her there and to me she looks a lot like Caro which makes me think they’re related 😅

ExcuseYou-What

Her physio, Laura Legoupil

Mediocre-Credit-4170

Thanks for that:)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mediocre-Credit-4170

I think about Shuai serving too fast cause Caro was getting a towel and Shuai was already ready to serve

spankyourkopita

Why is the Moselle Open played in dark blue lights? Feels like an aquarium lol.

Collecting_Cans

Garcia with 27 winners in one set 👀

[deleted]

Hello! Does anyone know if Federer is playing in the day session or the night session of the Laver Cup on Friday? Need to set my alarm for the crack of dawn if it's the night session!

rubbish_bin030121

Night, double is the last match of the day

[deleted]

Thank you - that’s really helpful :)

aweap

19-year old Svajda would be a good prospect if he had a better serve. Still showed so much fight there, saving 3 matchpoints and breaking Nakashima to take the match to a tiebreaker which he ultimately went on to lose but still fought so hard in every point in San Diego.

OwenRey

Look at that second serve!! Wow

ExcuseYou-What

Svajda is a great player and it's so unfortunate he can't find the consistency to get out of the 400s. That match he played against Sinner last year kinda still lives in my head lol. But these situations kinda just illustrate how *deep* the bench of talent is among all professionals. Mere mortals like us really don't have a means of making a dent.

nicoc9

Sinner always gets the dangerous unseeded floaters lol. Svajda, Draper, Altmaier, Fucsovics, PCB, Nakashima, Murray, etc etc…

ExcuseYou-What

I really feel like Sinner's *right there* on the cusp of understanding how to really handle these dangerous floaters. He's so close to finding the key in solving these matches in more straightforward fashion. I have faith he will get there; gotta have him fully energized for the QF/SF/F matches lol

DawnTakeYourTeethOut

Garcia is just so aggressive it's beautiful to watch

OwenRey

Great by Shuai to win that game after how impressive some of Caroline’s points were

jasonkochel

I could watch Caroline Garcia half-volley service returns all day

aweap

Linette seems to have recovered well from Chennai final. Up a set against Hartono in Seoul...

Sad_Consideration_49

Mugu coming to take tokyo to fund her trip to Gabon 😍

nicoc9

Fantastic from Muguruza!

triplejayye

UH ARGHHH

nicoc9

Wtf are these noises Papamichail is making? 😖

OddsTipsAndPicks

Winning this match would radically alter her career. She’s trying extremely hard.

bladerunner0920

Dasha tore her acl, just shit luck for her

Xenosys83

Has it been confirmed as a tear? That's another 6-12 months off her career depending on the severity of the tear, a real shame. Especially after she worked her way back into the top 50 this year.

aweap

[Unfortunately yes.](https://twitter.com/Daria_gav/status/1572412821820026882?s=20&t=Pey2R_kl-j_CxyglY8pC4Q) 😔

Awilltobemerry

which Dasha

jasonkochel

Saville (nee Gavrilova) Happened in a match against Osaka last night

Awilltobemerry

oh no. :( either one would be sad - she's just had to deal with so much.

PrincessGwenllian

Really terrible news considering how much she has clawed her way back up the rankings. She's one of those players that I've watched and wondered what could have been without the injuries, here's another one to fight through. Crap news.

OddsTipsAndPicks

Despina Papamichail, the woman Muguruza is playing right now, has won ~1/100th of Muguruza’s career prize money, and Papamichail is a few months older. Being a career fringe top 100 player is so crazy/amazing.

Psychological_Bug676

Now what is this grunt??

Jaytheplug

I’m high rn, and I just remembered Kyrgios really made it to a slam final and won 1 in doubles. My minds re-blown; what a timeline

Jaytheplug

Like, that really happened

YesChes

Something I had always figured I'd have enough time to do was buy a ticket to watch Djokovic and Federer play a match in person. The only reason was to shout "Let's go Rafa" during the period between points or games and watch both of them exaggerate being confused and looking around to find him

jsnoodles

Someone did this at the Djokovic/Thiem AO final and it wasn’t very funny lol.

Bakio-bay

Which tennis players’ fashion style do you think is best? Personally I think it’s either Naomi Osaka. Out of mens im not sure. I think Fed dresses really well but it’s way too preppy and formal for my liking. I think nick Kyrgios has some drip

nicoc9

IMO Osaka always looks a hideous try-hard mess. Kyrgios looks lazy and dirty. WTA: Raducanu, Muguruza, Halep, Kontaveit, Petkovic always look good. ATP: Rafa, Dimitrov, Rublev, Auger-Aliassime always look good.

jsnoodles

Biceps.

knickgooner10

Medvedev and Muguruza

aweap

I like Giorgi's dresses the best! I think her grandma makes many of the pieces with lace and what not...

OddsTipsAndPicks

Killer ace to get a big hold for Kudla!

Kahn-wald

So Sakkari is playing a clay tournament (Got a WC for Parma) in the middle of a indoor hard court swing. That tournament shouldn't even exist in the first place (considering the point of the season we are) or should be leveled down to a 125. It's basically made for players who are only good on clay (like Trevisan, Nuria, Zidansek, Sherif, Udvardy, they're all on the entry list) and need points because they don't know how to play in other courts or don't care about learning how to play in other courts. It could very good for her confidence if she actually won it, but I can see about 5 or 6 players there who I wouldn't put much stake on her beating in her current form. Tatjana Maria is on the entry list as well

jsnoodles

Maria’s gonna lose to Maria ffs. Isn’t there a 125 she can poach somewhere?

Sweetcarolinelove

At least maria and Maria will both be seeded so it won't be another opening match again lol

spankyourkopita

Do you think Emma goes far in this tournament? Looks like another good opportunity but I thought the same at Potoroz. I've been keeping my expectations low just so I don't get disappointed . I know shes young but I really get frustrated watching her.

knickgooner10

Could run into Fruhvirtova next round and then Linette. Might be tough, Linda is in good form and Linette can be tricky.

Striking_Town_445

I'm back, haven't really been checking in here because of the insane and queen's funeral coverage where I am somehow segueway into Fed's news that I felt like the past 2 years it was endless newstream of things ending.

TheUnisexist

Can someone help me out? As far as I could tell playing only 4 matches A-day will not end the tournament on time.

Nabucodonosor89

Fruhvirtova is still in Seoul's draw it seems. I was expecting her to withdraw after the long week she had in India. She is scheduled to play later against Wickmayer. Kasintseva from Andorra, also a very promising 17 year-old, got a LL spot in Seoul and won her match against Pacquet. 6/2 6/2. Great result. Hopefully this will be the end of her slump. She broke the top 200 barrier way before Fruhvirtova but she is having a tough year.

swirkh

Seems like players are taking their chances instead of withdrawing. Siniakova played in Portoroz 2 days after coming back from USO, and won the whole tournament. Tatiana Maria is playing 3rd week in a row, each time in a completely different timezone. Fruhvirtova & Linette reached F in Chennai & are playing today in Seoul.

RaggedyCrown

Can't belive Jack Sock will end Federer's career with a fat L

Grouchy_Square

Fed’s knee comments are heartbreaking.

TheUnisexist

Can you summarize what he said?

hawlc

Looking forward for the match between Kudla and Verdasco.

hojbjerfc

Lol they don’t give a fuck about their athletes

[deleted]

high liklihood they are true. CB governor has resigned and when she took the job her condition was no draft where are rublev and meddy rn? anyone know?

hojbjerfc

Meddy is in france and is exempt from service. Bad situation for Andrey tho Andrey is mostly in Spain tho

[deleted]

who is andrey?

hojbjerfc

Rublev

[deleted]

ok why bad for him?

hojbjerfc

Idk if he has an alternate citizenship like the rest

indeedy71

We also know he completed National service, unlike Medvedev, albeit the athlete stream. I wouldn’t worry too much about this though, there’s a long way to go from prisoners and people we can be racist against to rich white professional sportspeople being called up

hojbjerfc

Meddy has a condition from his premature birth he cannot serve

indeedy71

Yes, I know. I’m thinking Rublev here

[deleted]

lol

[deleted]

if they are in russia... game over

Moogy_C

First we started seeing major sponsorship from online betting, now we have commentators literally discussing odds and payouts on air. Shit's embarrassing.

swirkh

In Polish football league (Ekstraklasa) an online betting company became the main sponsor, and they are now showing live odds during each game at the stadium, on the centrally positioned LED screens (alongside the pitch) so everyone can see it, including players lol

Moogy_C

Oh god, the poor players, lmao

OddsTipsAndPicks

I cannot fucking stand how much they talk about gambling on sports broad casts. And look at my username!!

[deleted]

which channel?

Moogy_C

Tennis Channel. Watching Eubanks and Kreuger in San Diego right now.

AncientLyte

Will the laver cup survive after this year? I just don’t see it being as big of an event anymore with Federer retiring. Don’t think Nadal or Djokovic will play anymore and Murray will be done

Striking_Town_445

Being as its federers last appearance, will it be a big presence of alot of players xoming in to say farewell and wellx to watch him play one last time?

ALifeAsAGhost

I personally loved it last year even though none of the big 4 were there

AncientLyte

Last year was embarrassing for team world 😭. They came so so close to winning in 2019 against a better team Europe. Even 2017, 2018 were somewhat competitive. Last year was just a bloodbath

ALifeAsAGhost

Yeah I mean it would have been nice for it to be more competitive I guess, but I'm not too bothered as it’s just an exhibition(or maybe cos I’m European haha). I just loved the vibe of team Europe last year, nice to have just the younger guys for once :)

jarzyniowski

Players confirmed for ATP 500 in Vienna: - Medvedev - Tsitsipas - Zverev - Berrettini - Sinner - Tiafoe - Thiem Looks amazing already

Muraria

so who is playing Basel at the same time? I saw Alcaraz is confirmed, anyone else? (Alcaraz, Ruud, Musetti, FAA)
