What if Raducanu has been trolling us this whole time
Good match so far between Qinwen and Claire. Incase anyone's interested...
Penko really going through those challenges like they're free popcorn on the stand or something ☺️
No messing about from Emma on serve this time, 2nd time in 2 days she takes her first match point, nice😁
Emma vs Ostapenko might actually happen lol...but I dunno I think Kasintseva's a level above Gasanova, she might win if Jelena plays like she did yesterday...
Edit; either way this semifinal gonna be great
Would be funny if Emma went on a tear next couple of months, just like Kontaveit did last year with Tursunov ☺️
Raducanu in a semi final!! She’s on a roll for sure.
I didn't realize Bernardes does women's matches as well
Perhaps he fancied a trip to Seoul
Key hold for Emma after Linette's MTO, keeps the run of games going and puts the pressure back on Magda.
Linette with the MTO just as Emma broke to go 2-1 up...feels slightly tactical but she did take a MTO in that final when she was *winning* so I'm gonna give her the benefit of the doubt haha she's played a lot of tough matches in a week tbf
Man! What a hold from Radz! 0-40 down, she wins 5 straight points! 😳
And then four of the next five to take a break herself!
Who's the dude next to Tursunov? New hitting partner?
Emma goes a set up! Right where Linette, who came from a set down yesterday, wants her :( /pessimism
6-2 first set to Emma. 3 matches in a row coming up!?
Fast start again for Emma, but she's been generally good at that even this year. It's the finish I'm more concerned about!
Still, can't complain about this match so far.
Kudermetova up double break in the decider but there might be a medical issue with BHM. Taking lot of time in between serves, trying not to run and rubbing her hips...
Holy shit, can't really watch as at work but keeping track, seems to be going well thus far!
Emma's starting with real purpose.
And now we all tune in to see if Emma's finally gonna win 3 matches in a row...
Gonna be tough, I reckon Linette's still smarting from the Chennai loss final where she was leading 4-1 in the decider, (or at least I would be lol) doubt she'll wanna lose to a 2nd teenager in a week either
Emma's broken straight away tho, great start🙂 hopefully she keeps it up
Damn Ronnie! What a way to finish the set and take the match to a decider! 🤩
Tatjana looked relaxed and confident out there today against Zhu
She played as if she owned the court.
Next a semi against Alexandrova - looking forward to that match.
BHM-Kudermetova: after 2h30, still 5-5 in the second set.
Took the kids to a new wildlife park but the only animal they had there was a small, long-haired dog. It was a Shih Tzu.
Maria has such a lovely game style. Really fun to watch
the fact that most lower-ranked players (usually a large chunk of a 250 field) don't know how to deal very well with slice means that Tatjana should be able to really make hay if she schedules her tournaments wisely
WTA players are so lucky that Barty retired
She's doing fine; won two titles (1 WTA), Wimbledon semi, moved up almost 60 ranking spots.
This is such a dream come true for us fans. Such a great ending to Fed’s retirement. Hope they pull out a win tomorrow but anything more than this big 4 reunion is just the cherry on top.
Alexandrova pulls it through but this Sun girl looks quite promising
Sun attended the Siniakova school of serving
Me to my dad: Federer is playing his last match ever tomorrow, doubles with Nadal. Wanna watch it together?
My dad in a perfect Polish accent: Hmmm, is Świątek playing?
Keep in mind, this is the same man who calls Sabalenka Casablanca and Alcaraz as Al Capone, and he’s never even watched Iga on clay, but thought her USO final was a great performance
drama in the sun vs alexandrova match as the net comes loose on break point for alexandrova
I'm pulling for Lulu Sun; 21yo Swiss player is a pretty unlikely quarterfinalist with almost all ITF wins this year.
The first sentence out of the commentators mouth
JJ Wolf losing made me sad.
He needs his mullet back :(
Aww! Sweet gift of a double fault on set point from Martic. She knows how hard it is for Zhang to face set points on her own serve, so Martic does the needful. 🥰
God what a choke from Zhang. Couldn’t find a serve once she had set points and then proceeded to gift the break with wild unforced errors
Edit: very nice recovery. Martic was very close to breaking her for a 2nd time but Zhang did really well to focus, hold, and break for the set
Zhang, watcha doin babe?! You play like Athena throughout the set and then become Raducanu on set point?! 😓
Zhang-Martic is living upto my expectations! 🤩 People you can even watch on [YouTube ](https://youtu.be/43x5SFyXzIw)
It's still funny to me that despite all the young talent coming out of China, 33 year old Zhang is their best player.
Qinwen Zheng might have something to say about that soon tbf
Imagine they meet in the final haha, would be pretty cool🙂
I mean on these Japanese courts, she's absolute legend! Zhang's won the 100K in Tokyo (same court, Ariake) FOUR times - 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019.
Is it raining in Seoul? I can see the matches have been pushed back by two hours...
Bad weather it says.
I think Nakashima has a decent chance of getting his first title this time. San Diego is also his hometown.
[The Times (London) front page today](https://www.tomorrowspapers.co.uk/times-front-page-2022-09-23/)
Nice to have people dressed in black in London and having a fun night out.
Did they show any of the practice session that they did today on tv?
One thing that always makes me laugh is that Sampras is 10 years older than Roger but Roger is retiring 20 years later than him
I'm not mentally prepared for Federer last match
Does Laver cup offer tour points?
No. Bit it counts in the ATP h2h, I believe
Mo lahyani will officiate the fedal doubles match. Kind of interesting cause he was the umpire for Federer’s 4th round in Wimbledon 2001. He’s a great umpire
The best umpire, and Rafa’s fave umpire.
Fitting for the occasion.
I'm landing in London tomorrow afternoon.
I grew up next to Wimbledon centre court and heard the cheers from my bedroom every year as a teenager. Its very weird. ROGER IS 1 year exactly older than me and this feels like losing a childhood friend.
I'm not ready
Is roger really playing one doubles match at this tourney as his last? Why isn’t roger playing more? I know he’s injured but I woulda thought he would play a few for the last ride.
Maybe a doubles with djokovic as well
cringe comment, moron
You only get two knees. He’s given us more than we could have ever asked for.
His knee is fucked, playing more could have consequences for life.
Am I the only ones who hates this kind of shit ? We just had a woman that won 22 grand slam titles, another one who won 7 and was her biggest pain in the ass (could have won more if she hadn't retired early). Just to stick to the 00's
This puts a lot of pressure in the players. WTA doesn't need a "Big 3".
Before we start talking about "WTA Big 3", WTA needs a consistent player who will win Slams & dominate the field for at least 3-4 years in a row. Then that player needs a consistent rival, not someone who plays good for 3 months & disappears.
Like it's been discussed in this thread. This must pretty hard to achieve in the sport for women, for lots of reasons. WTA fans think all youngsters will be a phenomenon and will win multiple Slams. Most of them just become consistent enough players to stay in the TOP 100 for a long time.
I just want compelling rivalries.
It was only Setena, tennis had 3 GOATs
Women have it way harder to stay competitive within the years, for obvious reasons. It's not possible.
How? Men have to play 5 sets which means it's easier to pick up injuries. There is a reason why 5 sets in master 1000 Finals was removed. Rome 2006 says hi.
Women with age lose bone density at a higher rate as compared to men, which is why you have all kinds of supplements prescribed to them. They're also a lot more susceptible to arthritis and osteoporosis with age and of course have to deal with hormonal swings (PCOS, etc.) through most of their adult life. It's not without reason that most women retire from competitive sports by the time they're 30.
But all women suffer from that, it's not like they are competing against men. I don't think Women not having a big 3 it's because of that, they had Serena while tennis has 3 Serenas.
No am not saying that's the reason we don't have a big 3. Am just saying expecting a 15-20 year dominance by women wherein they go on to win that many grandslams is a bit ludicrous.
Well... They can get pregnant, because of natural desire of having a family, and if you want to do that you have to stay two or three years out. You will be unranked by the time you comes back. That doesn't happen with men. Once a month women also have blood coming out of them, which may or may not be a problem in a packed tour full of tournaments every week. Women also have boobs, which probably doesn't help in a sport where movement is crucial. There's the physicality issue as well... These are all natural disadvantages women have when playing tennis.
But pregnancy is a choice, they could just wait just like Rafa did or they can always adopt. Everything else you are totally right but isn't every women affected by those issues? It's not like they're competing with men but between themselves.
How are you comparing Rafa to women who actually have to give birth…also hormonal pain and periods are different for every woman, add the fact that some may be on the pill to assist with that, some may not
Collins has suffered horrifically from endometriosis
I know it's not the same but Rafa has had to deal with a lot of injuries through his career, he was told to retire in 2005 but he still didn't care and fought hard. He isn't a woman but hasn't had an easier career.
Injuries happen to everyone, male or female. Pregnancy, periods, and certain hormones do not
Rafa has an incurable disease since 2005 that only gets worse
Many women wish to have kids of their own and chances of having that decline a LOT faster in your 30's. You can't at all equate it with men. Rafa can have kids at any time coz he doesn't have to get pregnant.
A user there said Andreescu, Osaka, Anisimova, Zheng, Gauff are the "future"
Well, I'm sure people said Keys, Sloane, Ostapenko and Voundrousova would be the future as well. They've all have had wonderful careers, but people shouldn't be expecting them to repeat a "big 3". It doesn't work like that.
We will never know it of course but I still wonder exactly how good the september 2022 version of Federer would be in singles.
Like, could a player who has to regularly play qualification for challengers beat him realistically? What about a good college player, on a slow haddcourt?
Could Swiatek trouble him on a really slow clay court and maybe even take a set? If the knee is shot as much as we fear, I honestly dont really see why not.
Lol no, Swiatek will not take a set off him. He could serve and volley every point, and nail a few returns and comfortably win.
Serve and volley does demand quite some lower body explosiveness to get to the net fast enough though...doubtfull that this version of Federer could pull that off long enough.
I think you're vastly overestimating how hampered Federer is.
That might be the case, well we known more after the doubles I suppose
You’re forgetting he doesn’t have a WTA serve and she can’t hold her serve consistently
I have come to accept the fact that Daniil will probably never win any title above a 250 ever again
I’m just happy for Stan. I’ve never won any title in tennis though.
Bit extreme, he's just in a slump. No reason why 2023 can't be better.
Brooks is so bad when you play his forehand
I'm not emotionally prepared for tomorrow evening. All things considered, Federer has had a bad hand dealt in how his career has ended (by comparison it was really satisfying to see how Serena got to have a true farewell in New York and beating the world number 2 as well!).
But Federer playing doubles with Rafa, without whom you couldn't write the story of Federer's career - it's about as good an ending as they could have made. It feels right that somehow Nadal is part of it.
For me there would be no tennis without Roger Federer. I wouldn't play, I wouldn't watch. It was Federer who first lit that spark for me as it was for thousands of people. I don't tend to give in to emotion easily but I think I'll be a blubbering wreck for most of the match tomorrow.
Will people in the crowd be able to hear the on-court coaching/talk amongst team that will be happening courtside in the Laver cup? I am gonna be there in person and will hate my life if they’re talking and you can hear it on TV but not in person.
Hey y'all, my friend and I can't make it to tomorrow's Laver Cup day session. We have two tickets in Section 116, Row X. They're behind the baseline.
I'm just looking to get back what we paid. DMs. open.
Surprised there's very little mention of Medvedev's behavior today in this sub. If it was another player, it would already on top of the feed with 1000 upvotes. He could have gotten DQ'd if the UMPIRE understood it was a racist act.
A lot of people are kinda on a break post US Open, myself included, or are mostly focused on Laver Cup. But, I watched the clip and yeah....... I don't know what was going through his head.
Med throwing tantrums when he's losing us literally par for the course. How Tsitsipas gets the reputation for poor on-court behavior and Med doesn't is completely baffling to me. Medvedev has thrown 10 times as many tantrums and blow ups in the middle of matches than almost anyone else on the tour. Even Zverev doesn't cry as much as Medvedev does when he's losing, although usually Zverev is a lot more violent and unhinged when he does lose his marbles than Med.
So sad for Meddy. He is going through something.
Sorry please explain how that is racist?
I'm not saying it was racist, but if he's mirroring a monkey there so you can't blame someone from making that interpretation.
Lol I don’t think it was supposed to be a monkey I think he was saying they smell bad but maybe I am wrong.
And also Monkey does not automatically mean racist. If you call a black person a monkey ya you are racist as shit but calling a crowd of Frenchmen monkies idk how that’s racist
What did he do? Didn’t watch the match
And he did that on Stan serve. What an idiot
wow goddamn what a clown
I’m not usually a cry baby, but I’m kind of emotional seeing all these big 4 love post. Fed wasn’t even the one I was rooting for, but it is kind of sad.
Laver cup about to get the discord banned again with so many people asking for streams lol.
Is there a discord for that ? Link?
It's just the discord for the sub. The link is on the right.
Man when you’re a bettor in Tennis you just get to watch the insanest things that can happen in sports hahaha
Just saw american Aidan McHugh come back from 6-0 in the TB against Gabriel Diallo to win 8-6.
When it was 6-3 Diallo hit two straight double faults and then at 6-7 he hit another.
Talk about folding mentally
Maybe I missed the discussion, but why isn't Medvedev at Laver Cup? His choice? Not invited?
Not sure if him and a Rublev weren’t invited because they are Russian or not (not very clear if they are allowed to play even though they aren’t technically representing their country)
Made me sad yesterday at the O2 when they were showing clips from last year’s cup, Andrey was so happy to be there 🥲
Nobody has said anything official I don't think but it's assumed no Russians because war. Can't be from Europe if you're currently not even officially from a country.
Do you think Emma can beat Linette? Feel this is a true test to see where she stands. She's been pretty good so far in Korea so I wouldn't hold it against her if she loses. If she can win 3 in a row it would probably be her best tournament since the US Open.
Definitely, Linette could be tired after a run to the finals last week and a couple marathon matches.
She absolutely can beat Linette, but I think Linette will make it a tough match regardless. Linette is obviously very capable of beating Emma, too.
Then, even if Emma plays well- but has a second set slip up, Linette is more than good enough to punish that and outlast Emma in the third.
>Then, even if Emma plays well- but has a second set slip up, Linette is more than good enough to punish that and outlast Emma in the third.
yeah this is facts, didn't watch the match but I heard Linette basically did exactly that to Mladenovic, who had 2 match points... and since Emma's a pretty high-profile player Linette will have deffo heard about her 2nd set wobble in R1 so she'll still fancy her chances even if Emma's winning 6-2 5-1 or something lol. so it'll be all down to Emma to close it out which hopefully she will, it's pretty much guaranteed Linette will if she gets the chance, literally did that in her last match lol
Normally I’d favor Linette. But this will be Linettes 8th match in 9 days so Emma should win.
Agree. I back Emma.
I am just begging Daniil to shut this season down. Go be with your wife rn my guy, clearly the outside factors are weighing on the guy as well as the pressure of tour life and he seems so focused on points now. No amount of “hard work” will fix that serve. Just go Relax, rest, and come back stronger at AO. He hasn’t had a real break since the 2020/2021 offseason with his hernia he got during davis cup last year.
Pretty sure he didn't play in April and most of May owing to that hernia.
He had the hernia since Davis Cup, he probably played far too long on it
Probably but to say he hasn't had a break since then is not entirely true. He also didn't play in July due to the Wimby ban.
I mean is a month out due to surgery a break? Especially with the amount of rehab put in to have him
Back for RG
Has he said anything about still recovering and having pain? 4 to 6 weeks is pretty standard, unless you're into weightlifting or something of that sort (which looking at Meddy I highly doubt).
Why are people downvoting you for giving the best advice!!
because people hate me
I don't hate you, but you never shut the fuck up.
Agree, he needs to call it a year and relax/work off court
Dont know why but Rune is giving me zverev vibes
He's not nearly as good as Zverev
They have the same number of top 10 wins in slams
It's the shirt!
My respect for Stan has went up more. He’s still not done, and is dedicated to the sport he plays. He was willing to go through quallies of a 250 just to play more. Though he’s not as good as he was in 2013-2017, his backhand is still class
in b4 Ruud runs onto the court in Metz yelling JAAAAAAAAAAAA during Rune's match and then runs back to a plane headed for London
Casper was very late to the Team Europe practice yesterday so wouldn’t surprise me if he got distracted JAAAAAAA’ing at people
I want wawrinka to win at least one more title before he retires. Make it happen tennis gods
one more slam\*
Stan for Monarch*
Holy shit Stan beat Meddy 🤯
Hubie is probably going to cockblock Stan if he makes the finals but I can easily see Stan beating anyone before then. Ymer then Bonzi or Bubic aren't that tough.
Congratulations to the happy couple. That came outta nowhere lol
I can't watch bc I'm at work please tell me what this is referring to lol
There's a proposal on the court. Dunno who they are. I was looking away from the screen for a bit and suddenly there was this guy on his knees lol
It isn't Roger and Rafa is it?
No that will be tomorrow in London
Lol I've never seen that on a tennis court. Hope there's a clip later.
Steffi will you marry me is the og one
Dude how cool would it be if Stan could win this tourney. Stan with an ATP title in 2022 would be so awesome.
It’s funny when I am positive about Meddy everyone downvotes me when I am realistic about him everyone downvotes me. But then again I was already the most hated member on this sub I mean I got doxxed and people probably supported the guy doxxing me.
When he loses and you call him "shit" and "fraud"? Way too harsh. That's not realistic. You have to get better at dealing with your fave's losses
it aint the subject matter by guy lol
Maybe tone down the whole look at me! / pity me! dichotomy, idk.
Look, Med hasn't always played well this year but calling him a "fraud" is anything but realistic
Anyone else says it and everyone agrees tho
FBI kidnapped Med and replaced him with Midvedev
Let's go Wolfman.
Life is good again
Court a bit too slow for Medvedev, but he's still lacking something.
A few glimpses of the past there. Was reminded Stan’s winners are more satisfying to watch than [insert your favorite player’s name]
What has happened to Daniil, my god
He was never a good player
Your flair's outdated bro.
Great performance from Stan. Medvedev still has time. There needs to be a fix somewhere in his game. I remember when he lost Kevin Anderson in 2020, but then went on a tear till ao 2021 final
LMAO. No fix to being shit
I mean he wasn’t shit in 2021
Yes he was lmao. Or did you miss pretty much every tournament other than USO. He is a fraud
Yeah cause winning the us open, runner up at atp finals and Paris is shit.
Don't argue with him, he just takes his faves losing terribly
He faced no tough opponents at USO, lost to fucking zverev at atp finals lmao
Damn, djokovic isn’t a tough opponent!? Zverev also beat Djokovic in the round before and was in great form and he beat zverev in the rr
Nah Djokovic would have lost to fucking Kozlov in that final. Zverev is shit
ok if that’s what you want to think, I’m not gonna convince u to think otherwise I suppose
blessed with all the fedal content here
Strongly manifesting more good vibes for the 1 handers in need of wins
This tourney was there for Meddy. Hubie on his best day can be a threat to him but other than him was there even anyone that'd be seeded at a slam?
He also gets a bye so he needs 4 wins vs 5 to get the title. Instead he goes out match 1 to a 37 year old Stan. This is rock bottom for Daniil in 2022.
Stan is still the man. Great win for him. Hoping for a Stanimal/Hubi final.
I want Stan to win that fourth slam just so I can laugh at the inevitable "Is Wawrinka better than Murray???" posts here
Wawrinka 2023 Wimby Champion
Great win Stan. Now guess what
