gunningIVglory

I mean it is essentially a glorified exhibition tournament, I would guess the other 4 are just delighted to even be there a savour this weekend. The Federer swansong

lastofoblivion

Novak belonged. He was there, he lived in the moment. Even took a video of Fedal’s entrance with his own phone. He coached them, they listened. He shared hugs, shed tears, cracked laughters. Roger and Rafa just happened to be a lot closer given the history. You’d know why if you’ve been following tennis for a while. Besides, Laver Cup matters because of the Big Four this year, especially Roger. It’ll always be that way. They bring the clout to the event not the other way around. They are the event.

chutsal123

Hopefully we still see Roger on the team Europe bench during Novak's match

Nayarali

I don't know how to add video's, but the interview with Rafa and Roger is finally on YouTube.

fujimouse

I called Fedal doing doubles and then pissing off back on Monday, just want a minute to be smug about it before I remember I don't really care about the rest of the tournament anymore.

Avalanche_1996

Those who paid for Saturday and Sunday overpaid. Just like usual Fedal went home together.

Nayarali

Did Federer go home as well? Why?

Myrusskielyudi

Why is Federer not playing any more matches in the Laver Cup? Aren't there more matches for Team Europe to play?

Terrible_Excuse_9039

He doesn't have the movement anymore and he probably also doesn't want to risk needlessly destroying his knee right before retirement.

HIResistor

Because he cannot move fast enough. His knee simply can't handle the fast changes of direction anymore. At least, that's what it looked like yesterday. He also didn't hit as hard as he used to, most likely due to not being able to load his legs as much as needed. He was just barely physically able to play doubles - and only due to his incredible serve placement and net skills, really.

Ryponagar

Technically he would need to play a singles, but he's just not on the necessary level physically.

iwouldntlastonthelam

Let’s get back to business, even if the eyes are still puffy. I see it’s Novak day, I hope he crushes Tiafoe and Sock for the AUDACITY yesterday. I will come back to like them, but not today

Avalanche_1996

How to temporarily lose fans being nice guys overall. They should write this.

Terrible_Excuse_9039

I don't know, Tiafoe seems arrogant to me. Sock I agree is a nice dude, but I never understood why people like Tiafoe.

Avalanche_1996

I bought "he's a nice guy" as truth but now I don't know.

Different_King_2563

Cam Norrie is playing today. Does this mean Rafa is not playing any more matches ? Do we know if he’s still gonna be present or of he’s going home ? Edit : it appears Rafa is indeed going home. What do we know about Roger ? Is he at least gonna be present with the team ?

Avalanche_1996

I hate to say but those who bought summer and Sunday tickets really overpaid.

Nayarali

As much as I understand this, I am so sad he is leaving. I was looking forward to another two days of Fedal (coaching), not realizing his wife is at home having a rough pregnancy. It's 100% the right thing to do, but it's such a sad ending

Nayarali

I've heard people saying Rafa was consoles by Mirka and the kids as well. Are there any pictures of this?

PhtevenHawking

We definitely need this.

_indianhardy

What a beautiful song from Ellie goulding "still falling for you"!

edcrfv50

That’s the best I’ve seen Murray play since his injury. He was actually unlucky to not win. What a night of tennis. It was a late one, but I’m glad I was able to see Roger’s last game live.

Muffinfeds

The big 3 would have been happy with a grand slam and reaching number 1. in the world, yet here we are. They went beyond their wildest dreams. "When you cease to dream you cease to live" - Malcolm Forbes

Cobainism

He made greatness look so effortless. Just pure class. He's the reason why so many people even got into tennis. Thank you, Roger.

Trubtitsky

Anyone have a link for the full match 🥹 If you do plz dm me!

_indianhardy

Sonyliv india has full replay match uploaded. Not sure if it works outside india

EveryoneIsABotxceptU

Was not able to watch live since it was too late in the night, watched the replay today including the on-court interview. Started my day by crying a lot

jleonardbc

Queueing now to pay my respects to the King

jleonardbc

Gentlemen, it has been a privilege shitposting with you tonight.

schumamol

Question: I was able to watch the match but had to miss the post match presentation due to a stupid work meeting. Anyone knows where I could catch a full replay (in the US)?

himalayanthro

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLRk4KBVdSo

Awilltobemerry

Tennis Channel Plus has the replay up

kKunoichi

Ok I'm still sad but Rafa or whoever tagging the location of his Thank you RF post on Facebook with "Planet Earth" is sending me

jleonardbc

Planet eRF

Grunge_bob

Okay just watched the game point for fedal to go up 4-3 and they went just as hard if not harder at Frances than he did at them so I don't want to hear this nonsense from anyone anymore.

HIResistor

Roger also was clearly fine with it - there was a short interaction between them after it happened. I doubt that either, Rafa or Roger, would've wanted them to hold back. They wanted to win, not be gifted a win.

Grunge_bob

💯

justanotherzee

Rafa is flying home but RF is staying right? To support on the bench?

DarkDiablo1601

any links to Nadal coming back to Spain?

Terrible_Excuse_9039

He wants to be with his wife during her pregnancy. It was clear at the USO he wasn't mentally focused on tennis. It was the first time I've seen him look like he doesn't want to be there during a match.

roamiedumbass

It was heavily implied. Nadal lost the US Open and basically said “I don’t know when I’m gonna play next,” and the prevailing thought was that he was calling it quits for the year to be with his wife. We know that Federer called him up a week and a half ago to say that he was gonna retire this week and hoped that he’d show up to play doubles. Now that Norrie and Berrettini are in (the two alternates), we know that Federer and Nadal withdrew. Based on everything that’s gone on, it looks like Nadal only came because he wanted to be with Federer, and he still intends on shutting it down for the rest of the year. What I’m saying is don’t expect him to be at the Laver Cup now, Paris-Bercy, or Turin. Melbourne’s likely the *earliest* he played next.

Chlo-Motion

Ppl bought tickets to watch GOATs and suddenly now they have to watch Norrie 🫣

whydoieven_1

suddenly the competition has become more intense.

jleonardbc

I wish David Foster Wallace were alive to write a follow-up essay about the evolution from the fangs-bared Fedal of his day to the sobbing and handholding bromance today.

Striking_Town_445

https://twitter.com/BlairHenley/status/1573483905499406338?s=20&t=uqIqEw1YTp30whYvi5xjSg Rafa was suddenly a boy here. I don't recall ever seeing him quite this emotional ever

WilderWildeWelles

Only time that comes to mind at the moment is after the 2019 USO final

Striking_Town_445

You are right. Fed at Basel 2019 too. They've both had these emotions individually for a while and tonight they shared them. A unique and lonely thing at the top

Boss1010

I wanna see Murray/Djokovic doubles. That'll make me feel a little bit better

JohnGenericDoe

That would make sense.

Striking_Town_445

I got home from the laver cup. London was melancholy tonight. Not prepared for all the other players reactions on twitter etc Iga posting `this is serious` of Fed crying and a black cat and a vase of flowers made it feel funereal Fritz T saying he cried buckets. We`re not alone. I also don't remember being this sad about another retirement

Grunge_bob

For anyone curious the tennis Channel us going to replay the Federer match after this Brooksby match

hypothetical_avocado

Last stop on the Fed Express, it’s been an honor, friends 🫡😭

brokenearth10

schedule is out for day 2. is it official nadal pulled out as well? novak playing singles then immediately doubles! it seems like novak will pull out after day 2?? with fedal gone from the tournament, its meaningless for novak... he usually doesnt even play in laver cup

PlayoffChoker12345

Novak needs to get back in match form so he won't pull out

Grunge_bob

Nadals wife is pregnant and he wants to be home Edit: nadals other wife I mean

araheem94

Glad that I made the trip to London for this. The energy in the arena was unreal. That was a special sendoff

Grunge_bob

Wow where did you come from

araheem94

Ontario, Canada. 3 hour drive to YYZ and then a 7 hour flight. Was definitely worth everything

Grunge_bob

Wow I was thinking about going from Pittsburgh PA but it seemed just too difficult. How long are you staying in London

araheem94

Leaving late Tuesday. Was planning to come here in the middle of next month as I am looking to travel in Europe for a couple weeks or so next month but the game was too difficult to pass up. I got to Roger's IG post pretty much right away as it was posted and then immediately launched my laptop to try and buy the event tix. Was trying for a couple sessions but due to traffic eventually only succeeded in getting the Fri night session. So I did kinda get lucky but I feel like I may still have paid the going resale price for this match as it's quite a bucket list item

sirbrayan5

Probably one of the best decisions of your life. Money is nothing without happiness. Roger is happiness

Ichweisenichtdeutsch

Wow I finally realized what yyz from rush was named after

Serious-Chipmunk-872

Sad night for all tennis fans around the world. I remember watching Federer for the first time in AO 2009 against Berdych and since then I became a big fan of Roger. Thanks to him I became a tennis player then a coach. Thank you Roger for all the good memories. Tennis will never be the same without you :’(

fthenetcord

please stick around for a little longer Rafa......my heart can't take this

vuluu912

just rewatching the post match farewell for Fed... man im not his nor rafa fan but the tears man, they’re real. It makes me realized how lucky and spoiled we are to have lived in this era of tennis, it will never be the same. And, whoever thinks having someone to sing during the farewell for 8min-odd whilst the players awkwardly clapping and did not know what else to do (apart from crying of course), is a fucking idiot. She could have tried to turn in a better performance, but in the end it wasnt her fault but the organizers’. Godspeed Federer.

yaki_of_soba

Are we gonna see djokovic murray doubles?

deucemckenzie

Looks like not in the cards. Novak is scheduled to play with Berrettini on day 2.

Sad_gooner

This sub is full of weirdos ffs, imagine hating on players because they won. Not tiafoe’s and sock’s fault federer and Nadal are shit

roamiedumbass

>8-7, 40-15 Makes sense

juankruh1250

Imagine calling someone else weirdos while you are calling two of the best athetes of all time shit.

raysofdavies

It’s funny, because it really does seem Roger’s greatest rivals are his closest friends on tour. You can never tell how a sporting rivalry translates to a personal relationship, and you get unlikely friendships - but these hugs do seem so sincere and real. I hope Federer takes over as the Team Europe captain, or just hangs around the LC some other way. This really does real like part one of a four part series finale of the greatest era of men’s tennis of all time

Kahn-wald

Are people really hating on Sock/Tiafoe because they won a match ? And I thought Serena fans sucked.

Kahn-wald

As if Sock dealing with fat shaming betting haters wasn't already enough, now he's getting hate from a millionaire guy's fans.

Grunge_bob

A billionaire actually

lastofoblivion

Is Rafa staying until the end of Laver? First time hearing he’ll be replaced by Norrie too. Is the ab still not holding up well?

KnowledgeNate

I think he's having "personal issues" at home related to his wife's pregnancy. It seems that she's not well.

Grunge_bob

I would expect that he's on the next flight home

kenempa

anyone know where i can find a replay of the roger match? had to leave second set. had it screen recording but it failed smh

deucemckenzie

Tomorrows matches just posted to IG: Berrettini vs FAA Norrie vs Fritz Novak vs. Foe Dubs: Berrettini /Novak vs. Sock/Demon

Grunge_bob

Wow Novak doing double duty

Vexico_Flags

It would be pretty awesome if Tiafoe beat each of the big 3 in the span of three weeks.

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

I want Djokovic to give Tiafoe a huge beatdown. I didn't like his so many body shots. Sock came out with so many amazing shots that didn't include hitting the body even though it's perfectly legal.

Vexico_Flags

It’s a pretty common shot in doubles, and Tiafoe was just playing to his strengths to win.

jleonardbc

Heck, he could do it in three days.

Kahn-wald

Team World has a legit shot... Berrettini x FAA and Norrie x Fritz are 50/50 matches. And considering Djokovic hasn't played in months, Tiafoe could be tough for him.

deucemckenzie

I'm almost ready to call FAA the clear favorite in the first match. The court is going to favor him.

Cvspartan

Is Norrie playing for Nadal?

deucemckenzie

Yeah, Nadal is evidently out for the rest

deucemckenzie

Could we see team World tied, or even ahead after day 2? They will be favored in the dubs. I can certainly see them win any of the singles. Particularly the first, as I think Berrettini is gonna struggle on the glacial courts.

Grunge_bob

I would like to see team world really put it together this time. I've wanted them to get it every year and they never do. I'm not really one for patriotism let alone nationalism but they always have a youthful fun energy to their team along with being the underdogs

roamiedumbass

The “Avenge Federer” tour is afoot for Djokovic

justgrowingup

I could see Novak on day 3 winning if for them all…. The tears

dannylenwinn

Coach Johnny Mac might want his first win. He has had a good fairly successful day today. We shall see

raysofdavies

Hey I just landed from a plane what’s up

roamiedumbass

We all are dehydrated because we cried so much

Sodapop912

Dude I was drinking water during the change over as well lmao

WilderWildeWelles

The hell are we supposed to do now

ac4897

Wait for one of his 4 kids to turn pro

Astrohunter

What do you mean? Federer's back on tour now, right? He's playing Basel next month, right? Right? RIIIIGHT?!

juankruh1250

watch matches of his prime 2003/2009

roamiedumbass

Some good ones: 2005 USO Final, Agassi - Agassi pushed Federer harder than pretty much anyone else all tournament, and Federer managed to turn it up. 2006 Wimbledon final, Nadal - aside from the opening set, this was a pretty gritty win for Federer after his heartbreaks in Rome and Paris. 2007 Wimbledon final, Nadal - this was considered their best match for about a year. 2008 AO third round, Tipsarevic - Serbia had it out for the guy this tournament, but this five-setter was tight from start to finish. 2008 USO fourth round, Andreev - he hadn’t won a Slam, Andreev pushed him to five here, played quite well with his back against the wall. 2009 FO fourth round, Haas - another back to the wall comeback. 2009 FO SF, Delpo - Delpo really turned it around after his horrific loss at the AO, this match was another furious comeback from Federer, makes you appreciate how tough his path was to finally get that FO. 2009 Wimbledon F, Roddick - only if you’re not American and hate Roddick. 2009 USO SF, Djokovic - probably the best Federer/Djokovic match that ended in straights.

Grunge_bob

>2009 Wimbledon F, Roddick - only if you’re not American and hate Roddick. Even Roddick haters felt sorry for him on this day

juankruh1250

Master Cup 2003 Vs Agassi also, the beggining of Federer dominant era.

WilderWildeWelles

Just watched the last few points of Wimbledon 2003. Smiling now

MardelMare

Ok not Wimby 2009… poor Andy Roddick was nice enough to show up tonight, don’t put us through that!

roamiedumbass

Who wants a fun Fed stat? He’s played 13 Wimbledon semifinals, and won 12 of them. Of those 12, he lost exactly TWO sets. One to Djokovic in 2012, one to Nadal in 2019.

[deleted]

It's pretty funny that of all people Milos Raonic was the one who beat him in a Wimby semi. Even if it was 2016.

jsnoodles

Love you with all of my heart.

roamiedumbass

It would not surprise me if Nadal calls it a year now and doesn’t play until Melbourne next year

justgrowingup

Agreed. Nadal would have not shown up if it wasn’t for the Federer request for doubles.

lastofoblivion

Rafa weeping tonight will debunk all the doubters’ belief that the FeDal friendship was purely for PR.

pavelblink182

It has been pretty obvious that they have been good friends for the past 5/6 years but it wasn't like that at the begging. Understandably so, it's hard to be best pals with your biggest rivals and traveling all the time. If its meant to be, its meant to be.

brokenearth10

schedule is still not out for next day?

deucemckenzie

Nope, they are way late because of the post match ceremony I assume

[deleted]

Read the room, kiddo.

rogerthatkn

Still searching for that clip where Roger something on the lines of love you buddy to Nole and he started crying rightaway after that.😭🥺

uma100

He was already crying before that when Roger went to see his kids, this guy finds/posts lots of clips: https://twitter.com/NawalNadal/status/1573462390712172560

azdae777

Please find this

Legitimate-Brick-838

What are we doing with our lives now? This was heartbreaking

jleonardbc

I guess we...work?

jg1496

Missed the Fedal match. Anyone know where I can watch / has a link?

veilsofrealitydotcom

So cool, as a new fan, to see the kind of impact Federer has had on the old fans. :D I love tennis.

MischievousMrBrown

Did anything happen after Ellie Golding?

fuckkkofff

A lot of hugging and more crying

thcm123

And Roger walked around the court waving goodbye to fans.

nupristeen

thank you Roger! 🥹❤️

SaschaBub

anyone got a link for the full post match ceremony?

himalayanthro

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLRk4KBVdSo it is up now

Here's the interview: [https://twitter.com/TennisTV/status/1573461397886861330](https://twitter.com/TennisTV/status/1573461397886861330) After that there was Ellie Goulding and more hugging and crying than our hearts can handle.

someone just posted the interview, ig we'll see a complete one soon enough

OliverDMcCall

Shut up.

Sodapop912

I read this in Andy’s voice

juankruh1250

Okat but how is that related?

Slambodog

I do regret never seeing Federer live, but I've stayed up or woken up at all hours of the night and day to watch him play on TV. My two favorite memories of that both involve watching from hotel rooms. 2018 Australian Open. My friends and I drove up to Vermont for a ski weekend. Saturday morning, I woke up at 3 AM to watch Woz won her only career Slam. Went back to sleep, spent the day skiing. Sunday morning, woke up to watch Federer win his last Major. Between the sore legs from the first day of skiing and the sleep deprivation, I skipped the second day of skiing. We went sightseeing instead. 2019 Wimbledon. I was on a weekend trip in Knoxville. I figured I'd watch the match and have half a day of sightseeing. Well, you know how that went. Had to beg manager for a late checkout, spent everything past 6-5 in the fifth on my bed, fully dressed in my suit, refusing to leave until the end...

Styxen

What a player, what a person! Thank you Roger.

BenjaminBobba

Not the time

crutr

Is the ceremony over? If not, can someone PM me a streaming link? Tennis Channel in the US is fucking worthless.

thcm123

It’s been over for a good 15 min or so now. TC had other obligations I guess but TC+ carried it all the way through.

ffantasticman

Not sure what to do with myself now after becoming an emotional wreck… Thank you Roger for everything ❤️

[deleted]

OliverDMcCall

What's wrong with wanting Federer to retire with a win?

Sodapop912

I’m so glad that I got to watch this emotional match from Roger for the one last time. You gave me so much thrills in many ways every time he stepped on court. Thank you,

iconisanimi

I knew Roger was going to cry and I thought Rafa would get emotional too but oh. my. god. Them sitting on that bench sobbing and not being able to even look at each other did me in.

Familiar-Stock6693

Rafa’s uncontrolled tears were absolute shocker to me. That’s when I broke down for good. You can tell how special they were to each other. And what they have created together. Gosh. Crying again.

thcm123

I will never, ever forget today. Will take me a while to get over. If ever.

Familiar-Stock6693

It feels like actual grief.

h00dman

As a Brit I'm feeling now what a lot of my fellow country folk felt last week with the Queen.

Familiar-Stock6693

I had the same thought. For me it was also the end of « my youth ». A time I will never get back. Fed and fedal were the symbol of that. Somehow I felt Nadal had the same feeling. An era is truly gone for ever and it was one for the books. So, so, sad.

BenjaminBobba

This actually hit a lot harder

h00dman

Yeah you're right actually, this is much worse.

thcm123

It truly does. I feel like I just broke up with the love of my life and you can’t even hate him because he’s just perfect in every way.

lannie279

I feel like there is a hole in my heart 🥲

Xenosys83

I'm not a Federer fanboy, but I can appreciate what he's brought to the sport over the last 20+ years. I'm just glad I watched every single one of his slam wins live, even if it involved breaking my heart over and over again as a Murray fan. A legend, an icon, and one of the greatest athletes of all time.

himalayanthro

guys does anyone have a link to the full post-match ceremony? Tennis tv called it a day after Roger's postmatch interview edit: [found it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLRk4KBVdSo)

bingboy08

Laver cup is still going on for 2 more days. Feels like it ended tonight lol

DarkDiablo1601

nah Im all ready for the aftermath of this retirement, would be fun to watch

GamamJ44

I’m actually really excited to see how it ends, but also how the mood will be after the grand finale is already over hahah.

Rare_Winner2399

Do we know if Fed will be around in the next couple of days, coaching and stuff, in team Europe’s box?

SaschaBub

I think he will be

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

Of course he will.

bingboy08

I’d think no as well, same as Rafa. Both will be replaced by Norrie and Berretini

Rare_Winner2399

I didn’t know Rafa would be replaced too, that’s sad. Understandable though

PlayoffChoker12345

Rafa probably isn't healthy rn and just did this because of Roger

MardelMare

Rafa will be crying in bed with the covers over his head for the next 2 days. Followed by 2 weeks of therapy.

_Crazy_Asian_

I would guess no, he's presence will always outshine others. And he said goodbyes already, so I think not likely

Rare_Winner2399

That’s definitely true, it wouldn’t exactly fit

hojbjerfc

Roger: works hard for years to turn laver cup into a competitive event not just an exho Players; take it seriously as a competitive event not just an exho Fans: This is an insult on roger!

Grunge_bob

🤣🤣🤣

Unaatennista

Deadass

Unaatennista

The result of the match didn’t even matter once they started the ceremony. Sending Frances and Jack hate is excessive imo

wraitherg

The pain is terrible right now. Impossible to sleep. Just thank you for everything Roger federer

Legitimate-Brick-838

Exactly. Trying to calm myself but I am not able to do it

thetallerone

Safin vs Federer at AO 2005 was my first match. Promised myself I'd get into to Tennis if Safin could beat invincible Fed. 17 years later here I am crying for Federer. Even in losing Roger got me hooked into Tennis.

ChaoticFeminineQueen

Never heard of Ellie Goulding before, why are people on twitter so mad at her for singing, lol?

gunningIVglory

It's just an odd choice She isn't as popular nowadays, and as far as I know. .no connection to federer Is randomly bought out at 1am to preform not one, but 2 songs While everyone just wants to see Fed Plus her live performance was pretty weak.

Norster7911

They should have stopped after the first song. That one kind of fit the mood. The second(Burn) was a buzzkill.

gunningIVglory

Yeah, burn felt forced, just a case of playing a hit Especially after what thar protestor did earlier in the day lol...

Big_booty_ho

People on twitter just stay mad. That’s their default emotion.

veilsofrealitydotcom

wow havent heard that name in forever. When did she sing?

rogersterlin

Men will literally cry to Roger Federer’s retirement speech instead of going to therapy

JohnGenericDoe

It was pretty therapeutic TBH

xxiredbeardixx

Yes

curry_wurst_36

Here we go.

Glaurung1536

I really hate how TC cut out right after the interview, there had better be a full length video on YouTube

thcm123

I switched to TC+ during the Murray match when I realized Pam was calling it. They carried it all the way through til the end.

KedarBayley012

Fed is one of those rare athletes that is so intrinsically connected to the sport, like he’s left such a permanent stamp on tennis, that you really start to wonder ‘how can we imagine life without this guy?’ It’s the reason he fought against Father Time so valiantly, he gave everything he had to keep this period of time in his life alive, and you just know he’ll always find a way to stay involved in this sport somehow.
