Nishioka is 5-0 against Evans, and also:
3-0 v Fritz, 3-0 v de Minaur
Anyone know if Ruud is gonna play tomorrow ?
Missed Maria playing. Like her new outfit but the lack of abs visible makes me sad.
Edit: I was looking for official streams but I see now they’re listed in the top bar. Got it
Welp everyone and their mother have been posting this link everywhere lately. Can't wait til the site goes down.
Just dm people bro. This shit got the discord banned.
Mods probably need to be harsher with people posting illegal stream links.
Sorry I didn't know this was banned. I remember sending links long time back through dm's but then got banned that time as well (not tennis, some movie streaming site related...I think it was because the system assumed I was spamming). I thought this might be allowed here, but I'd be more careful in the future.
Np...sorry I was a bit of a dick in my response.
Remove comment, nowvthat the commenter has seen irm Id stream os detected, they Will block thé site.
Done! I'll refrain from posting these in the future.
Just flew home. Jesus Christ..London was emotional.
I think 2 years of not really being around people, there are alot of feelings being processed out there. Roger was a constant and in a time of change, one depends on some things staying the same.
I have a hunch it would have been different if the pandemic didn't happen and we wouldn't have seen such extraordinary emotions play out like that
Respectfully disagree. Roger is the most beloved tennis player of all time by a large margin. His retirement was always going to be incredibly emotional.
It would've played out differently if it was at an actual tournament like Serena, where he didn't have all his peers around him.
Ultimate 4d chess retirement planning.
* notices the writing is on the wall in 2016 when the knee goes the first time, he loses to a serve bot at Wimbledon, and Djokovic completes the grand slam to hold all four majors.
* creates his own tournament (laver cup) that encourages all the best players to compete together, putting his closest career rivals in the same team (Europe)
* launches said tournament in 2017 timed perfectly to go along with his massively successful comeback to the tour
* produces some of the highlights of the new tournament himself over the years to build credibility
* big 4 can’t resist all joining in in 2022 so he can retire with his peers in a giant lovey dovey waterworks fest.
* only thing that screwed his plan was not beating Novak+Rafa back to back for the 9th Wimbledon in 2019, which of course should have been number 10 following a more successful defence in 2018, but Anderson. Can’t have it all I guess
I think if the pandemic hadn't of happened there may have been more public/collective reckoning about a bunch of things tbh. Listened to the Tennis podcast, would also agree that it had seemed RF had spoken about processing things a fair bit. Also rewatched Rafa interviews where he described himself as balanced and not high or low on his reactions. Seemed like both caught themselves and us(!) off guard.
I just saw Djokovic as in head Novak Djokovic is playing doubles at tel aviv
I forget is there a sub for discussing tennis at the amateur level? Like drills, lessons, tips, advice, etc.
Do we know why Draper is out of Sofia? I’m assuming Wawrinka is still injured.
Illness is the reason listed
https://twitter.com/taylor_fritz97/status/1574385075948589058?s=46&t=9A0ckZ1lFJJCHyZnYhPnDQ bruh Stef fans are so toxic this is ridiculous…
I’m happy to be toxic to people being jerks ✨✨✨
I think it’s good Taylor is speaking about mental health though.
Who were they being jerks my lord people get offended by greek yogurt now!
Nah the jokes about his dad were shit. Tommy Paul can get in the bin.
But it sure as hell wasn’t bullying. The reaction is so stupid and overdramatic. The amount of stef fans on twitter I saw excusing racism yesterday was absurd
And calling Greek Yogurt homophobic is the stupidest shit ever
Weird take. It’s not stef fans. It’s just starting what happened. They acted like entitled frats
How did they act entitled?
This Ymer match isn't good for my blood pressure
Davis finally deciding to go after some returns. Those rallies against Errani are just brutal.
Watching Errani weave her magic on the red clay is bliss
can we agree that kyrgios' combination of cut off sleeves and an undershirt is not it
Fine in concept bad in execution
do you have an example of what this looks like good in execution? nba jerseys?
I mean it works with nba jerseys ahah but no i just think other than Indian Wells it just hasn’t looked great imo.
it all looks just silly to me unless it's a team jersey? like bro do you want to have sleeves or not
I somewhat agree but I am a sucker for undershirts but typically only long sleeve ones
Davis worked hard for that break. 7-5, 3-2 serving.
Canada dropped all covid restrictions meaning djokovic can play next year at Toronto. Hopefully, joe’s handlers drop them as well
Djere has now lost to Wawrinka twice this year and Thiem once. Poor guy is a whipping boy for one-handed backhand slam winners who are playing way below their peak. Bet he's glad Fed retired.
Also lost to Tsitsipas twice and Shapo once but won against Theim and Gasquet once and Musetti twice this year. 4-6 ain't that bad of a record for a year, considering who all he had to play...
He needs to take some tiebreak lessons from Tiafoe
Ymer with a nice response to losing a close tiebreaker
Honestly having done some reflection..i still think it is time to ditch world vs europe. Largely bc I think it is promoting a somewhat elitist mentality. Every year we get Team Europe described as Classy and elegant and team world described as loud and classless. now i think it is obvious this goes along with a lot of the stereotypes. Now some of this is earned. Team World is normally mostly made up of North Americans. Here in NA the sporting culture very much supports trash talking. Of course it is VERY MUCH THERE in Europe as well but I would say with the NHL, NBA, and NFL, it is even more prevalent. So seeing people get so offended by Frances saying he can play like shit against most guys but not stef, I saw that as a compliment, i guess some others didn’t. Tommy joking that he would make dad jokes (afaik he didn’t actually say any) was dumb but he is dumb and it is just part of North American sporting culture. If people are so intent to get worked up by that I think they should look back to last year when Zverev told Team World they would only win 1 point. The sporting cultures are different but people are putting on a false vision of elegance and class from team europe and the opposite for Team World and I don’t like it. I think it contributes to xenophobic stereotypes about non euro regions.
It also is not lost on me that Team Europe has called up a total of 0 black players in the 5 times the event was held. This would be somewhat understandable if Gael Monfils…just about the perfect player for an event like laver cup…didn’t exist, but he does, and in 2019 he was a top 10 player he was well within range to be considered.
This has nothing to do with the team mentality the laver cup format has and entirely to do with the fans of tennis overall.
The "controversy" with Tiafoe just brings up how privileged and entitled a vocal contingent of the tennis fandom is and how it warps narratives to abuse any player outside it's expected norms. They will bitch and whine about me saying it but much of the tennis fandom grew up as rich elitist and thrive on putting people from different backgrounds down..
There's a reason tennis is considered a niche rich man's sport despite it's popularity.. it's because it's fans are largely pompous assholes who also artificially put up barriers to entry to keep others out
Apart from Monfils, who would've been a great addition back then, I don't think there was a top 15 poc player from Europe in the last... probably ever.
I don't think you understand just how few ethnically non-europeans there are in Europe that actually play tennis - much less professionally and representing an European country.
Monfils should've been asked because he is a cool guy and great player, not because he is black...
I mean Yannick Noah, Jo Wilfried Tsonga
But still thats why I said it would be somewhat understandable if Gael such a perfect player for Laver Cup didn’t exist. The fact that he probably was not invited does not sit well with me
Anyone who watches football knows Europe supports trash talk. Roy Keane is on television every other weekend complaining about how footballers are now friends. And shall we refer to everything Zlatan has ever uttered?
Tennis fans are just being offended for no reason.
The Team Europe elegance thing is directly influenced by Federer. According to some people everything he touches, is associated with exudes elegance. Which is ironic considering how much of a brat he was early in his career. Even if they switched to captains picking players from anywhere in the world Fed’s team will still be elegant even if it had Zverev on it.
As for not calling up Monfils I have no words for that.
I agree with you. This whole sub has been shitting on Americans these past few days, also doesn’t help when they’re openly calling Tiafoe gangster and ghetto. I agree that Ruud, Berrettini, and Norrie give off nice and friendly vibes as opposed to the stereotypical frat bro look of the Americans, but people here are just salty that Federer (and Nadal) lost, and it’s easy to take it out on Americans and the only black person/POC there
Hmmm, i always have a problem when conclusion is drawn likely this - to take it out on the poc. No, it's not the case. People can dislike Tiafoe as the person he is, regardless of whether his poc or not. Just like people can like Felix just because he's not doing all those antics that rub people the wrong way.
Well Felix was there
Felix beat Djokovic who this sub also hates.
That's why they let him off the hook lol.
I largely agree with this analysis, but will note that we don't know whether Monfils (or anyone else) was asked and said no. Which isn't to say they were, just that we have no information on that.
Good win for Thiem. Love that he just keeps grinding it out week after week in these tournaments. Thiem/Cilic should be a good one.
Proud of Domi, FH looking better every match
I feel like I've been hearing that about Thiem since he beat Agut like 3 months ago lol...
I would like to believe you but your flair shows that you are completely delusional
Run from it, hide from it, Stan is still winning Wimbledon next year to complete his career slam.
Thanks r/tennis for book recommendation of "Open" by Andre Agassi. I just finished reading it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Andre really has a way with words.
Wasn't expecting Keys to get her ass kicked like that in the very first round. 😓
Did Ymer grow up a Kyrgios fan
Nah. Kyrgios fans never grow up
The Tel Aviv courts are really pretty
Domis broken 🥰
Domi looked so thiccc jogging back to his bench after the tiebreaker
The great Sara Errani about to face Lauren Davis on the Parma clay!
Has she learnt how to serve?
I am so tempted to say that she’s taking it but I will when she wins Parma
I’m on the Bogdan hype train
Am with you! She's been amazing right since Warsaw last month. 2 finals and 1 semi in that period. She needs to cut down on the marathon matches though, for her own good. 😓
Yeah looks like she enjoy 3 setters as of late lol.
I hope that train stops at the next station sorry
Whilst watching this somewhat weird Thiem-Djere match - do you have favourite tennis podcasts to recommend?
The Tennis Podcast and The Body Serve (funny, a bit gossip-y, but call out bs) are the only two I listen to
Tennis podcast is the only one with good consistency but man to me at least they can be insufferable at times. I wish we had some better ones (that are not so Brit Centric)
My favorite is The Tennis Podcast. During a slam, they post an episode almost daily otherwise it’s sporadic episodes.
Thiem is giving this game away now
Why would Maria play a clay court tournie now? Kind of doesn’t make sense to me. Clay season ended 4 months ago. It’s now all hard or indoor until next spring
Halep out of finals probably wants "easy" points so she can qualify and defend final points
Honestly, this Thiem-Djere match has had some great rallies
My three favourite players of all time are Federer, Thiem, and del Potro. It has not been the best year.
Thiem looks exhausted
Apparently the more links are getting shared, the more they're likely to get blocked/banned in the future. Please delete the link and only send it as dm.
It's over for Baindl
How’s Domi looking
Coming on strong
I think Maria is about to meltdown and lose this set, Mis-hitting everything
Just-for-fun question (off the top of your heads, no looking up stats)… Which player would you say has had the more accomplished tennis career, based on your gut feeling… Thiem or Cilic?
Gut feeling says Thiem, but the more I think about it, the more I have to lean towards Cilic.
I think that's probably because Thiem had a higher peak than Cilic but Cilic has stuck around at the top longer and therefore achieved more.
Cilic kind of under-achieved imo but I'd say he had a slightly better career than Thiem. Cilic's longevity at the top is kind of underrated as well.
Kind of interesting that Cilic, Thiem and Del Potro have had very similar careers.
3 slams, including beating goats in slams… Stan the Man is in a different category.
Stan is objectively not as good as either *outside* of Slams, though. Which is pretty weird.
Cilic. Majority of his body of work was in a more difficult era, (including his slam win), and he was better across surfaces. SFs at every slam at least, more titles, and I'd say a higher peak level.
SFs at every slam is a strong and possibly clinching argument.
Domi, because I think he has more wins against the big 3
Great point. Cilic with more slam finals but far less prolific vs. the big 3. With Thiem, it actually felt like he could do legit damage against the big 3. Very short list of players could say that.
The big 4 cilic played against for much of his career were not even close to the big 3 thiem had to play against.
Cilic had a considerably harder level of play to overcome compared to thiem
Very true, which makes it tough to compare. Though my gut tells me Cilic wasn’t beating the later stage versions of the big 3 the way Thiem was.
Because cilic wasn't at his best either (after 2018-2022).
During the exact period thiem got to his best level and scored some wins against the big 3 at majors ( this sub exaggerates..he beat Djokovic in a coin flip match at RG and then demolished djokvic during his single worst yr on tour since 2006.. and then beat Nadal on hard at ao..that's 2 impressive wins), cilic was hurting
Additionally, thiems time at near the top levels was relatively short lived ( barring a comeback in the coming months / years which imo won't happen. I think he won't reach a slam final again )
Cilic was relevant way back in 2009 and still made a sf just this yr at rg. That's far more impressive than thiem
Fair point about Cilic being sub-peak. You might be downplaying some of Thiem’s big 3 wins in M1000s and world tour finals? Huge matches. Fun sports debate regardless.
It's heavily opinion based for sure.
Again my take has been that in recent years ( and I'm going to extend it through the end of djokvic and nadals careers) that beating Nadal and djokovic at masters and the WTF are no longer that impressive compared to back in 2005-2014ish. They clearly are aiming for the majors and their level both rises /their experience shines through in the best of 5 set tourneys.
Their careers are no longer affected by wins at any lower tier event, thus they do not bring their A game there especially as they age. Yes I'm downplaying thiems wins at the masters/wtf the same way I will do so for Fritz rublev against Nadal Medvedev and even alcaraz at madrid etc. They are beating the husks of the big 3/4.
Sakkari will win the second set 6-0 and lose the third in a tiebreak.
Was gonna say that but maybe now 6-1 and then tie break?
Omg that was a braindead game from thiem to get broken
The Tel Aviv court is so absurdly blue.
Tallinn is SO DAMN FAST! Not surprised Bencic took the first set 6-0.
Interesting that the top two seeds in Parma have one title each - Rabat
My gosh Maria
This court in Tel Aviv looks so damn nice
It looks like a nicely lighted aquarium, I'm waiting for a fish to swim by.
40-0, 3 set points at 6-5 and loses the set 7-2 in a TB. wHyY Maria?
Sakkari had 3 set points then proceeded to lose 12 out of the next 14 points
Being a Maria Sakkari fan is the hardest job in tennis, I kid you not
Had everything going up 40-0 needed a point to win the set and just let it all fall apart
I can’t stress this enough but Sakkari needs to win Parma. I can’t keep defending her Rabat slam forever like this
Maria is 🗑
I'm rooting for Baindl. Yes, I am evil.
6-1/7-6 is a common scoreline in tennis. 7-6/6-1 as well.
The second set was pretty high quality.
my favorite is 6-1, 1-6, 7-6
So Estonia banned Russians/Belarusians and only 1 Russian made it into the main draw of Parma (18-year old Erika Andreeva). Kinda weird seeing that Russians won the last two WTA titles in Seoul and Tokyo, and are barely anywhere this week.
They may be a little busy trying to get themselves and their families out of Russia.
Krejcikova takes the first set!
Why? She's an icon 😍
What a shame, she's a fun player doing well at the moment, is she in the top 100 yet?
Did you let the mods know?
I think there's some issue with auto-mod being a little overzealous
I sent them a private message yesterday asking what was going on. Still waiting for a response.
Well I think we reached max stupidity with Tsitsi fans saying that Tiafoe saying Greek Yogurt was homophobic
0-40 down while serving for the match at 5-4 in decider, what quality and character from Noskova to come back in the game and serve it out. Her composure and attitude are beyond her years. Lessgo Lindy!
Noskova Parry has been a fascinating match so far. Both Uber talented young players.
Sloane wins a marathon against Fręch with a spectacular bh volley at the net in Parma! 👏👏
Also, Kanepi vs Ostapenko should be bangin' :D
As an Estonian... I'm excited for Tallinn Open. I hope it'll come back here next year, then I'll be sure to go and actually watch my first tennis tournament. At least the semis and the final. Sad I couldn't make it this year.
Indoors and fast...hopefully Anett can take advantage; also chance to see Maileen Nuudi and Elena Malygina in main draw...not to mention a certain 37yo.
Parry's game is great!
I agree. Topspin bh needs to improve, but she optimises everything else (serve, forehand and slice) so it's not that noticeable. Little surprised she chose to play in Tallinn over Parma this week...
Everyone get behind Dragos Nicolae Madaras in his final qualifying round against Nesterov. We need someone with a name like that to become a tour regular.
The mad-lad did it!
Meanwhile, our favorite journeywoman Tami Korpatsch has finally broken into the top 100 after winning her first 125.
Casper Ruud has quickly rocketed his way up the rankings of my favourite players. Hope I get the opportunity to see him play live at the ATP Cup or the AO.
How did Kecmanović lose to world no. 222?
He didn’t win the last point
Oh no, Kec has been having a rough time lately
Man how many tournaments are happening this week...Tallinn, Tel Aviv, Seoul, Parma, Sofia. Phew!
Muchova is a playing against a one-handed backhander: Jessika Ponchet. It's a bit strange, it looks like she puts two hands on the racket in preparation but then pulls it away and strikes the ball with one hand
Went to work on two hours of sleep today. I hate tennis.
Sloane fighting for her life on serve ... Cmon girl
