Why is the WTA website way better than the ATP one? ATP website is very clunky and hard to navigate, at least for mobile users
Considering where Shapo was a few months ago, this was a very high-quality performance. Munar isn't easy to put away in general. Shapo just needs to stick with Youzhny right now and stop being spontaneous.
Vintage Shapo, what a point.
If I was to bet all my money in my current online book on Shapovalov over Jaume Munar, should I feel confident today?
Hammer him Vasek won earlier keep the Canadian magic going
Our home and native land
Damn Rafa really should’ve won that 07 Wimbledon final. So young and challenging Federer on his best surface. What a player
google is no longer giving me the schedules automatically when I google players or tournaments, anybody else has this problem?
Use [https://live-tennis.eu/en/atp-schedule](https://live-tennis.eu/en/atp-schedule) instead
With the amount of tournaments Ruud plays per year (he’s playing the Korean open right after laver cup), I think he’s lucky he hasn’t had any serious injuries
Planning to watch Seoul Open live this weekend. pretty psyched that there's plenty of big names coming!
He played a single match in the laver cup
ESPN2 is replaying old Federer matches tonight.
Czech/WTA Next Gen in action this week:
Linda Noskova (17) is playing WTA 250 Talinn (indoor hard). She won 3 matches already (coming from the qualies).
Sara Bejlek (16) is playing W25 Santa Margherita di Pula (clay).
Brenda Fruhvirtova (15) is playing W60 San Sebastian (clay).
Noskova beats Bia
Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (17) from Andorra is playing W60 San Sebastian as well. She made QF last week in Seoul (WTA).
”TEAM EUROGER” - Oh Steftsipas ❤️
Federer follows Nole on Instagram now 😃
Also started following Ellie Goulding. I like her but woof - what an awkward show.
And that settles that non-story.
A tough read in the NY Post about Del Potro being unable to accept life without tennis. He also says he can't climb stairs without pain. Oof.
Oh, Delpo 💔 I can’t imagine the thing with his dad helps, either.
Fognini’s matches are always weird
Classic 30-0 to losing the match. Oh Fogna man
*Fogna* indeed. He's lost a lot of matches in the last year so I'm not surprised he's getting nervous in the closing stages.
Fognini is so nonchalant lol
So casual with the drop, I'm sure the word Sprezzatura was invented for Fabio. 2 crazy drops in a row
Looking to buy tickets to the WTA finals and I’m wondering if anyone knows how many matches you get to watch per session, specially the night session? First weekend
Vukic can't buy a break
Fuck sake Fabio
Curious what the popular sentiment is on this topic: Do you think Emma will finish the year in the top 50?
She’s going to make semis in OSTRAVA!!! and then win the spooky slam. Should put her up around #40.
No chance! She is to fragile... she should take a break, maybe play 1-2 tournaments and then come back stronger next season.
She has few points to defend, so she could certainly move into the top 50.
Last week was the best she's played since US 21, if she keeps that level up, why not? But depends on if she recovers
SST Trevisan doing the tennis classic of having a grueling back and forth 1st set that lasts over an hour and following it up with a bagel
6 set points, no conversion. Oh Fogna. Although Vukic seems to have one of the slowest and worst backhands I've seen so hopefully be able to punish it this second set
SST/Trevisan match sounds like two old ladies arguing.
Blew a 5-1 lead in the 3rd, dealt with strange umpiring, a late resurgence from Wang, and even the lights going out at one point, but Kontaveit manages the home win. Hail the Queen of Indoors!
Anett probably feeling the pressure of playing at home. She looks so relieved in the interview.
One of my favourite players, she's hasn't had a great year but I hope she wins this one. It is indoors after all :)
And she really needs the points considering how much she is dropping in the next month. She still has chances to qualify for the Finals, but will need to play really well.
Fognini faced break points in 5/6 games and was broken only once
Anyway, it was a really high quality match and it's great to see a packed crowd for Anett.
lmao JM Gambill was simply tearing into the umpire, Kelly Thomson
hopefully Xiyu played Anett into form because this was kinda hell (i mean absolutely a great match with great hitting, but also still hell)
Surprisingly I can't understand a word estonian.
I have to say I really enjoyed an interview in Estonian😁
Love the fight from Wang. Could have easily just given up at 1-5, but just kept fighting and going for her shots. Really impressive.
Anett!!!! Love seeing her get through this match and have such a big smile at the end. Hope she goes all the way!
What the fuck was this match point? Wang landed a ball near the baseline, line umpire called "out", umpire did the correction and they just kept playing? Never seen that before. Correction has always resulted in the point being stopped afaik. This umpire made some really strange calls.
Fantastic fantastic match
Such a high quality match, great win from Anett
what a STRANGE umpire for the Wang-Kontaveit match.
thrilled for Anett, but what a match by Wang.
I wasn't watching. What was strange about the umpire?
Did a correction mid point after a linesman called the ball out and the rally continued instead of being replayed.
During match point at 5-2, Anett faulted on 1st serve and as she was preparing for the 2nd, lights in the arena went out for like 5 seconds, then they came back. Usually the umpire would give the first serve back because of the disturbance, but she didn't.
Then sometime later on the final matchpoint Wang landed a ball near the baseline, line umpire called out, but the umpire corrected that ball was good. Usually in case like this, point is stopped and replayed, but they just kept playing for some reason.
Kontaveit really needed that win. Would have been a huge choke had she lost that.
Huh, that is odd. At least Anett didn't get robbed the match.
Where can I watch the Federer/Nadal vs Sock/Tiafoe match? I'm in the US
SST wins the first set in 89 minutes lol.
Fognini offering himself to Vukic but Vukic saying no thanks I'll choke
I really hate this whole coaching thing being allowed. Even though it will benefit some players I like
Anett what is HAPPENING
WOW what a comeback
What a furious comeback by Wang. She gonna win this thing
I think when the lights went out, Wang left the court and was replaced by Djokovic.
Goddamn Wang flipped a switch. Went from hitting unforced errors to lights out winners.
Quite literally, lights out winners
If you had to bet your life on it, who would you pick to win more career slams:
1. Alcaraz, or
2. Ruud, Tsitsipas, Auger-Aliassime, and Tiafoe, combined?
Ooh tough. I think ruud gets 1, Stef 2 or 3, and Tiafoe 0. Felix is tough, wouldn’t be shocked if he won 3 wouldn’t be shocked if he won 0.
Alcaraz I’m guessing like 8ish. So I guess i’m going alcaraz
Alcaraz. I don’t think FAA or Tiafoe will ever win a slam. Ruud and Tsitsipas can squeeze in RG after Nadal and Djokovic are gone
What a terrible decision from the umpire not to give Kontaveit first serve back after the light went out.
I mean didn't the lights go out after the serve had been out? I'll need to watch the replay but from what I saw it would be unfair to Wang to give Annette the first serve there.
They did, but usually in tennis when there's such a big distraction between serves, the umpire just decides that the whole point should be replayed and the server gets the 1st serve. It's up to interpretation what constitutes a significant distraction, but imo the lights going out for a few seconds between serves is enough to seriously unsettle the server, so she should have gotten the 1st serve back.
yeah the way Anett looked at her like...are you going to give me a 1st serve again? and the judge kind of paused and then was like...second serve. was very odd.
Lighting person at Tallinn getting fired lol
Omg Anett I'm having a heart attack over here!!!
Lights just went out in Tallinn on match point
Great crowd at Tallinn!
I didn't notice it but looks like Pospisil just won his first main tour match since February beating 8th seed Griekspoor as a lucky loser in Tel Aviv!
Kontaveit is the reason why the WTA are too scared to have an indoor hard court slam
Why is the ATP “too scared” to have an indoor hard court slam?
Winning 23 of 24 points is just mean.
If Annette keeps this up her home crowd is gonna turn against her for bullying.
It's gotta be so much pressure to perform when playing in a tournament that literally exists because of you. Hope Annette and Ons soon can live up to it.
Bro Annette took some Popeye's spinach a few games ago or something. She's completely taken the racquet out of Wang's hands.
No wonder she's winning if she's taken Wang's racquet and isn't giving it back.
Yeah, wiping the floor...
People make a big deal about Med's H2H with Tsitsipas. But Stef is definitely better than him on clay and perhaps even on grass (there's a case). And Medvedev seems to be falling apart right now.
Anett remembered that she's indoors. Blasting return winners and powering through her service games to take 2nd set 6-2.
Glad to see Anett turning things around in the second set. It would be bad for her to lose in the first round in her home tournament.
I mean Anett must have planned to put on a longer show for the home crowd...😓😓 but Wang was playing well, of course
Kontaveit just went on an insane tear right there. Like 7 straight winners
SST-Trevisan 35 min in, score’s 2-2 🙃
When I saw this match up I thought to myself, damn that's gonna be a long match lol
Come on griekspoor
He’s had no answer for vaseks serve since the first set
Kontaveit is officially washed if she loses tn
Sorribes Tormo x Trevisan played three games and the match is already 34 minutes long. This will be a long one, just as expected 🤢
Starting 2nd set with a break and a hold, pretty good recovery for Anett so far.
Come on Vasek what a battle to get set 2 now let’s bring this W home
I have few more of [those pictures](https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/xpf42j/guess_the_tennis_players_part_2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) should I make another round?
Yeah, it’s a fun challenge
[there you go then](https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/xpnd8e/guess_the_tennis_players_part_3_legends_from_the/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) Good luck!
So many rightly focus on Queenwen but Xiyu is a huge talent; big serve and shots plus very focused during matches.
What’s happening to Anett
Come on Anett win on home soil
Ugo Humbert wins a set in Sofia with 26 UE and a 42% 2nd serve won, surprising
Anett looks radiant on home soil
See her casual photos in Instagram, I can't get over how beautiful she is.
Kontaveit is next up... On home turf, and we're indoors, baby!
Yes, finally Estonians can see her play live 🥰
Kontaveit has a surprisingly tough first round. Wang has beaten both Sakkari and Azarenka last couple of weeks and made semis in Washington and quarters at Granby before. Her match against Riske at the US Open was pretty epic I remember. Hopefully Kontaveit's had enough practice since battling Serena at the US Open.
Vekic just won her match in Tallinn with 6 aces, 39 winners and 6 errors. Opponent was a local lower-level player, but still, nice to see Donna win once in a while.
couldn't agree anymore - it felt so relieving. seeing her get ousted in the first round of u.s open wasn't fun, even though it wasn't entirely surprising
SST vs Trevisan today in Parma is gonna be a 4-hr screaming fest, I can hear it already from my home ☺️
Anyone know where I can watch the Nadal & Federer Laver Cup doubles match? I am in Turkey currently but have access to a VPN. I got downvoted in the last thread for asking, thought I would just try again. (It isn't obvious from google, the results just tell me Eurosport is where to watch it live...)
If I had money and was into betting, I would put a big bet on Noskova against Bia, who looks tired and hasn't played in indoors for a year while Noskova finished 2021 with a 17-0 record in this surface.
What happened to Xinyu Wang? I remember there was so much chatter around her last year as the next big Chinese sensation, same way like Qinwen has all this hype right now...she's not gone beyond the second round anywhere this year.
She's 21 and having a sophomore slump year. I think Qinwen will have problems in 2023 as well. She's new and people will start to figure out her game. That's why so many youngsters or rising players come and go. That was her best performance in months, though.
Why is the Tel Aviv open so empty?
It’s Rosh Hashanah…the Jewish New Year. Kind of strange they would have a tournament during the holiday.
Oh that makes sense thanks so much for responding
Congrats to Mayar Sherif!
Freed From Desire is still stuck in my head because of Laver Cup
I wish I had the clip of Nole singing it lol
hadad maria what u doing bby
Thought I was dreaming when I saw 6-1
Hoping Balkan besties cilic and djokovic meet up in tel Aviv finals.
I'm hoping Thiem defies logic and beats them both.
I mean, with Thiem’s current form, I’m morbidly expecting a 6–1, 6–3 victory for Cilic or something like that.
Logic would dictate that, yes. That's why I'm hoping he defies logic.
Logic dictates that anything could happen ;)
Therefore to defy logic, Thiem must make nothing happen.
Hmm. Does nothing still count as an outcome? Does anything exclude nothing?
In order to figure that out, I'd have to use logic. I will defy logic and not figure it out.
But you used logic to determine you needed logic to figure it out, thus failing to defy logic as your defying of logic is strictly logical.
Damn, I guess Thiem will lose then.
You can write a game-by-game script how Begu manages to win a set or match, despite maybe losing 4-0 or similar at the moment
Ha, Karatsev gets broken for 3-5* and gets a point penalty so Etcheverry starts serving for the match at 15-0. Karatsev breaks serve for the first time in the match anyway.
Man I bet he won so much money for that.
And now it's 1 set all. Gotta love the tennis scoring system
Nishioka is now 6-0 against Daniel Evans.
Are they related? I thought there are simply many Chungs in Korea
Ok nice, couldn't find anything about it
They’re not brothers. Hyeon only has one older brother who no longer plays.
God damn it Tim, had a set point on his own serve but then he put FH in the net and double faulted
Kontaveit is to indoor courts as Nadal is to clay
Teichmann has got to be the least clutch player I’ve ever seen
The fact that Dan Evans is Yoshi’s pigeon gives me life
The Tim van GOAThoven energy is gone :(
Evans 0-6 now against Nishioka
Situation that just happened on Evans Nishioka is prime example why line judges need to get out of tennis.
Break point perfect serve by Evans, easy volley winner but serve is called out, challenge its in but replaying the point and he lost that point and game
Worst part is that it was well in (like atleast 75%)
The technology's just not affordable enough for these smaller tourneys. At least it's now at basically all masters+ events. Gone are the days of slams being decided by a bad call.
Except that's only on hard. Clay isn't interested.
And Wimbledon is still wasting everyone's time with the challenge system.
Lol Teichmann is legit special in as a choker.
Up 0-40 with 3 break points at 4-3, converts none.
Up 15-40 at 5-4 and two set points, flubs the easy volley.
Unless Siegemund commits three errors in a row she's not getting the set.
She won the match
Man she’s a clown how about this 2nd set being 5-2 up and it having to go to a tie break
Had a very long day at work today. Came home, logged onto WTA TV only to see that Maria Sakkari's first round match against someone I'd never heard of at a clay 250 is THREE HOURS LONG 💀💀💀
Surely Evans isn't really about to go 0-6 h2h vs Nishioka...one of the most shocking h2hs in recent memory if so
What happened to Zidansek? That French Open semi final seems miles away now. She's struggling to stay in the top 100 at the moment.
Edit - having watched her match, she is extremely inconsistent, and her serve sucks. Work in progress but that progress seems to be taking a long time.
It is miles away. It was in Paris and she's in Parma now. That's about 469 miles.
At least she has a title to her name. 2020 Semifinalist Podoroska still struggling to comeback on tour.
Claire Liu vs Ann Li
Both Chinese-American. Both 22 years old. Both moderate prospects with top 30-40 potential.
***Don't*** get them confused 😅
I thought that was confusing and then I saw that in the draw we also have Xiyu Wang and Xinyu Wang.
Exactly the same problem with them, lol. Almost the same age, and same ability.
How is Teichmann seeded 9th at Tallinn?
I see that seed 6. withdrew and was replaced by Teichmann for seeding spot
So I didn’t watch the Fedal doubles but have seen the clips on socials. They were playing like an exhibition. Nobody was punching volleys away. They were pushing them and going for crowd friendly entertainment shots.
Apologies if it’s been said but. Yeah. It wasn’t real
So you saw the highlight clips, that by definition are going to feature the crowd friendly shots and concluded that's all they had?
I saw the whole match. They were trying hard. Federer was clearly a few steps behind the others, but Rafa was going 100% to win it for him.
Like Tiafoe is literally getting dragged all over the internet for going too tryhard in Fed's last match lol...
I don't know what match you watched, but it was most definitely real. The quality wasn't very high, but it was definitely a proper match.
