It will never not be weird to see Djokovic seeded fourth in an ATP500. I hope Medvedev and Djoko meet in the SF, I miss their rivalry.. and an Alcaraz Djokovic final would be 👌

OddsTipsAndPicks

When I’m feeling extra nostalgic, I feel weird not seeing him at three. But totally agreed on four. I looked it up because I was curious, and (assuming I counted right) he’s only been ranked four for 36 weeks. A zillion weeks at one, two, and three. But he only had one significant stretch at four which was in mid/late 2009 when Djokovic vs. Murray was a serious debate.

cdsacken

Meh antivax penalty. It’s not like he’s being punished, he did it to himself. I’m sure he’ll be number one next year and then we can hear more about 8000 weeks at #1

raysofdavies

He didn’t do Wimbledon earning a points ban to himself

cdsacken

Yeah that’s fair that was dumb

latman

Ok cool buddy, we are just saying it's weird, no need to virtue signal

cdsacken

Lol virtue signal it’s just weird that people act like it’s shocking he literally did it to himself. It would be like someone taking a break for no reason and then being lower seeded. No surprise

latman

And then it'd still be weird to see them low. The Aus Open 2017 was weird to see Federer and Nadal at 17 and 9 even though we all know why they were low

swapan_99

For me, his toughest are R1 and R2. Rune is a wildcard, he's in great form in Sofia, and Mannarino round 2 with his grindy tennis can be very dangerous. Afterwards Cilic, Stef, Hubi, nothing he hasn't seen/beaten before. Novak probably in the final If I was a betting man, and that'd be a classic.

redrum234

Rublev can work him too

jchristpriv

I mean last time Čilić played Alcaraz it was a tough 5 set match that could've gone either way, can see him beating Alcaraz

swapan_99

I mean Cilic is also older and is probably going to come off a full tournament worth of play in Tel Aviv, so who knows how he holds up. Alcaraz has basically been resting since Davis Cup group stage. He's fresh, he's hungry and I think he's ready to go forth.

katrinabeluga

Cilic had that former champion confidence at the USO.

jchristpriv

I mean he also beat Alcaraz last year

LordAnomander

Bold of you to assume Mannarino will beat Stan easily.

swapan_99

If Stan's healthy, then he's probably not beating Stan. But after his Retirement in the last tournament, don't count on it.

Zero_dimension98

Novak in the final when coming back in 2 tournaments in a row, I'm not sure, I hope he does good but considering the fitness issues he had when he came back in Belgrade, Monte Carlo, Madrid and running out of steam at the end vs Nadal in RG, I don't how likely it is until I confirm he is not having the same issues as last time.

raysofdavies

Stan taking down Alcaraz? Any chances?

Psychological_Bug676

Ikr. He always loses that first transition tournament like he did at MC and then Toronto. I could see him losing this one tbh 😭

Psychological_Bug676

Wtf make this a Masters next year. This is such an iconic lineup 😍

nicoc9

This and Vienna are crazy stacked. Meanwhile Tokyo…

Kelanfarx

Kazakhstan masters?

Quackoverride

Someone needs to go to Rune’s matches and hold up a poster that says “JAAAAAAAAAAAA!” Just because. And if he confronts someone after, plausible deniability - it means “Yes” in Danish.

inlettersneversent

so many JAAAAAAA references since rg and it’s still so funny every. single. time. 💀 this is rune’s most important contribution to tennis so far

DevastatorTNT

What kills me every time is that I imagine JAAA being yelled by the [kid on crack](https://youtu.be/Ct0RoiJxmm4)

-Kreetcher-

Don't give him the credit. We'll give that to Casper. JAAAA!

TresOjos

The perks of being number 1 and extra luck combined.

IBurnedMyBalls

Didn't Andy get a wildcard? There's been no news of a withdrawal but he's not in the draw?

Alex_Sander077

SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION

wholewheatscythe

FAA vs RBA in the first round?! Ouch, that’s not a match-up either player would have wanted.

MasterMatt25

One of them is getting majorly shafted

gothgirl91

the last remaining top 10 player to play alcaraz is rublev, they should meet in the quarterfinals (poor bweh)

Nick30Brodeur

Could be a good matchup you never know, Carlos never seeing the unmatched power of bweh could go down in this first meeting

gothgirl91

positive thinking for bweh

redrum234

Idk about poor bweh, he might give a run for his money

Incidenceincident

this just indicates to me that he's gonna employ the good old strategy of losing a round before he has to play him to continue the streak 💀 (/s)

gothgirl91

tbh... a genius plan!

DanaiDampa

Andreys draw is 😂😂😂😂 RIP 500 king you will be missed

clapclapJH31

As in it’s an easy draw?

DanaiDampa

Aslan R2 Carlitos QF are easy opponents apparently 🤣

clapclapJH31

Qualifier first round is the easiest draw possible. Aslan second round is hardly much tougher than the other potentials. Rune, Khachanov, Botic, RBA and Cilic are all far harder for example. Alcaraz in the quarters is very tough but he could have had Novak or Med. His semi final draw is the easiest possible in playing Tsitsipas. I would describe it as an average draw but it’s probably slightly easier than average

warachwe

Easy given the field, hard compare to average 500s

clapclapJH31

Exactly. 100%

OddsTipsAndPicks

> Qualifier first round is the easiest draw possible. Sometimes, but definitely not always. Like, David Goffin is in the qualifying group. Goffin is definitely a better hard court player than several of the lower seeds.

jchristpriv

Aslan is shite this year

chespiotta

Alcaraz- Djokovic

inotparanoid

Scenes when Rublev beats Alcaraz.

reddit8019

Based on this years results I would be surprised if this happened. If it did happen, Reddit would go crazy.

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

Honestly i think Alcaraz will become an upset. Most guys would want to beat him. But Alcaraz is a fighter.

inotparanoid

Most people here are giving him "oh you got easy draw" card. That just spells trouble. He's got the US open Curse as well.

OddsTipsAndPicks

It’s not *that* crazy, but it’s kinda weird they haven’t played each other (I believe Alcaraz has played everyone else in the top 15 or 16 at least once).

PleasantSilence2520

it actually gets weirder: the only people in the top 15 Alcaraz hasn't played are the ones born in October 1997, Andrey Rublev and Taylor Fritz

domithiemsass

Really hoping we don’t see upsets because then we can get some amazing matches. Sinner vs djokovic, medvedev vs djokovic, alcaraz vs medvedev/djokovic, alcaraz vs rublev

nicoc9

Yep. Draws/ lists like these typically lend themselves to early seed slaughter. Hope we at least get the seeded quarters.

domithiemsass

We should be getting rublev vs alcaraz and sinner vs djokovic, medvedev has been awful lately but maybe him vs faa 🔥🔥

Eaglelefty

Novak has the worst seeded draw imo. Garin-BVDZ-Sinner-FAA/Med-Carlos is harder than most of his slams lol

BelgianBond

I'm glad we're finally getting our battle of the teens, and at a point where Rune is rounding into form and Alcaraz might still be a bit fatigued.

reddit8019

Two and a half weeks is plenty of rest for a healthy player.

IcyOrdinary1

Very tough draw for FAA off the bat but if he gets past RBA and ADF, he will be battle tested. Med and rublev have a cakewalk first 2 rounds. Its pretty stacked for a 500 when djoker is seeded 4th.

gorkemguzel32

Final will be Hurkacz vs Khachanov.

nicoc9

🤣

swirkh

Out of the guys battling for the 8th spot in the Finals, Hurkacz has the best draw. And I'm sure he's gonna fuck it up

BigSillyDaisy

Yay Stan!

Crusteh_

I want an Alcaraz vs Medvedev final with Med playing at his USO 21/AO 22 level

Kreontas_Anestis

Give me Tsitsi vs Med final please

Natfreed

Why is Sinner toast????

nicoc9

Djokovic/ Auger-Aliassime / Medvedev And dangerous floaters: Cressy / Khachanov

Natfreed

He can lose only to Djokovic in my opinion. And not for long…

nicoc9

Hope you’re right. But I think Sinner’s got into his own head too much about his serve. I don’t see that improving in the next month. He’s lost confidence in it. And without a serve against this draw, I don’t see how he gets past even Cressy/ Van de Zandschulp … let alone Auger-Aliassime.

RaduLum

Obviously it’s just speculation, and it will depend on which version of each player we see on the day, but redlining Felix, Medvedev and even Khachanov would be very uncomfortable for Sinner, and honestly for anyone. He’s a special player, but it’s not like Sinner hasn’t choked away matches before.

MooreGold

Felix is 2-0 against Sinner (both this year) and he wasn't redlining

GamamJ44

Otte - Khacha - Djoko

skg555

Otte, seriously. Come on.

BelgianBond

Otte hasn't played very convincingly of late.

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

Most people are doubting Sinner but they have every right to. He has the game to outplay everyone but he can be mentally not strong sometimes.

Natfreed

It can be….I hope they’re wrong

baldwinicus

You get paired with a Wildcard It's the Stanimal

nicoc9

Especially *fresh* Stanimal.

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

I would actually like if Jannik defeats Djokovic so that he can get strong mentally next time meeting big players. Defeating one of the big 3 will actually give immense mentality and I would like to see it. Djokovic will bounce back anyways. He is just having match practices. He doesn't care about the titles like this. This is great opportunity for young guns to try to defeat one of the big 3 instead of choking infront of them like the lost gen did. Tiafoe talked about how much impact his mentality had after defeating Nadal. Competition can be tough and fun with Nadal and Djokovic if these young guns improve their mental strength and donot end up like the lost gens.

TresOjos

I really want to see Felix doing well here

Comicalacimoc

Tsitsipas better win or he’s truly Alcaraz’s pigeon

_threadz_

Can anyone explain to me how Djokovic is a wildcard as a 4 seed?

IBurnedMyBalls

He didn't enter in time before the cutoff date and needed a wildcard to enter as a result. He's also highly ranked so he gets seeded as well. Happens somewhat frequently actually.

danny_B01

Yeah Sakkari is a wildcard in Parma that’s playing rn

Comicalacimoc

I want Sinner to beat Djok

sabotagegaz

‘Lucky’ side of draw with Rublev, Tsitsipas, and Hurkacz? Ok..

NickStar21

I would say that’s a bit better than having Djokovic, Medvedev, Aliassime and even Sinner

nicoc9

Only Tsitsipas is a threat here. And Alcaraz has his number (so far). Can’t see how Alcaraz doesn’t make it to the final. The other danger for may be a fresh Stanimal. But Alcaraz will probably just drop shot him to hell.

sabotagegaz

I guess you should have been watching for the threat of Lucky Losers..

nicoc9

Alcaraz suuuper rusty. Head just wasn’t in it.

Level99Cooking

Ok, but Rune-Wawrinka-Rublev-Tsitsipas-Djokovic is a slam- level run.

OddsTipsAndPicks

Q1: Rublev Q2: Bublik Q3: Djokovic Q4: Medvedev Rublev > Medvedev in the final It’s an indoor hard court 500, and Andrey Rublev is playing in it. No need to overthink things. Rublev’s draw clears out early and he takes advantage.

PleasantSilence2520

oh you SPILLED

borisngcy

got injured in montreal

curlyhairedyani

Nah this is such a great little tournament

The1AndOnlyJZ

What a stacked 500 holy shit

HingisFan

I don’t see how Alcaraz is exceptionally lucky here? 50% chance he’d have Novak on his side, and he didn’t. That’s just how draws work. Rune, Wawrinka, Rublev, Hurcackz are all tough matches.

nicoc9

Compared to Sinner’s half with Djokovic, Auger-Aliassime, Medvedev?

HingisFan

Considering the 1 and 2 seeds can never be in the same half… obviously avoiding Novak is good, but it’s not “lucky”. And Rublev is better than Felix, so I don’t get your point

nicoc9

Avoiding Djokovic is not lucky? … and Rublev is NOT better than Felix. Add Medvedev, Cressy and Van de Zandschulp You must be blind if you think Carlos hasn’t landed in the easier half.

HingisFan

No need to be rude? I never said it wasn’t an easier half, just that’s it’s not “exceptionally lucky” when that’s literally how draw odds work.

nicoc9

Sorry, didn’t mean to come across rude.

aojajena

Sinner to beat Alcaraz!

nicoc9

If Sinner survives his half, I’ll be VERY impressed… regardless of what happens in the final. Can’t see it happening, unless there’s a seed slaughter favouring him.

Muraria

not sure if that qualifies as lucky draw.. doesn't seem that easy for Alcaraz.. hope for Wawrinka vs Alcaraz r2

andekafunda1

Djoko WC can someone explain

RVDHAFCA

He missed the initial application deadline

Margett88

Sinner is definitely not toast

nicoc9

He’s serving like crap, AND He’s got Djokovic, Medvedev, Auger-Aliassime + always dangerous Otte, Khachanov, Cressy, Van de Zandschulp. He’s toast, especially compared to Alcaraz’s draw.

Jaden_Ward

Sinner toast?? Dude Djokovic could be toast 🤣 has to face FAA who he just lost too, then Sinner who took 2 sets at Wimby then probably Medvedev then ending with Alcaraz lol

nicoc9

I highlighted Sinner because he desperately needs points to get to finals in Turin. With this draw… he’s toast (in this tournament).

erraticripple

Beibit Zhukayev when he sees who else is in the tournament apart from him 👁👄👁

ALF839

Why is Djokovic both seeded and a WC?

outis-kaniel

Literally the first thing that popped into my head. I've been scrolling to find an answer for this question.

beaverlyknight

What a lineup for a 500

brokenearth10

novak enters on wild card and is seeded 4th? haha

modeONE1

FUCK YEAH- Djokovic is playing in Astana? I swear I didn't see his face before on the promo

Rune should play lights out, so tennis would know that he should be part of this great next gen of players. Whatever happens, this will prove to be a good match! For some reason, I feel Rune will win this one.

nicoc9

Rune will most likely retire injured v Alcaraz if he gets to final in Sofia. That’s how he is. First round withdrawal /retirement due to injury. He has fitness issues.

Lukathebazooka98

You have a point. Yesterday he had medical timeout for leg massage and hes playing another match today.

[deleted]

I will forward your message to him.

reddit8019

>I feel Rune will win this one. I don't think so. Alcarazs results have been very impressive this year. After Nadal and Djokovic, Alcaraz is on a very shortlist of players favored to win the AO(Him, Ruud, Medvedev, Kyrgios). Any loss to anyone besides Nadal or Djokovic is concerning considering the hype and he is well rested and healthy.

[deleted]

Let's see. My personal opinion is based on Rune's desire to prove himself to be recognized, be among the great young players now, and Carlitos relaxing his guard bit after a great win.

GimmedatPewPew

Can someone explain to me why Novak is seeded 4th and a wild card?
