They had one about Serena on celebrity jeopardy a bit ago that everyone knew. And a few days ago they had a pic of Federer and to identify him and nobody knew the answer š„“
I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, I want to go watch a live tournament next year. Travel out of state is possible if it's affordable, but anyone have any recommendations on a tournament to go to?
Well, just for within Florida you have two main options: Miami and Del Ray Beach.
Miami Pros
- Will have top players (aka more well-known/good players)
- Both men's and women's
- Likely will be able to see more matches with a grounds pass
Miami Cons
- More expensive
- I've heard that the grounds aren't very nice for various reasons, but I can't confirm this
Del Ray Beach Pros
- Cheaper
- More likely to see Americans play, especially in later rounds
- Smaller venue so greater chance to interact with players
Del Ray Beach Cons
- Only men's
- Generally lower quality of play
Tennis channel showing 2012 and 2013 Serena vs azarenka us open finals today . I love both these matches, these two produced great matches / their styles clashed perfectly .
Super random thing, but what I'll forever appreciate Novak for is how he popularized stretching and general body care among younger players. He's so outspoken about it that it reached lower levels and at my local club I know tons of kids that take care of their body religiously because what's what Djokovic does.
More than any goat status, his legacy (to me personally) will be that he's going to help a ton of kids be a *lot* healthier as they age into tennis.
Djokovicās conditioning, consistency, determination, and ability to laugh off adversity are things all tennis players should emulate. His shots are beyond 99.9% of those whoāll touch the racquet, but his fortitude and mentality can be emulated by anyone, even if itās just in a small way, like a morning stretch.
Yeah, he has a lot of traits I think all tennis players should emulate. I'd say most of all his *style* isn't beyond 99.9% of people who will touch a racquet which makes him the best idol for newer players.
Federer's style is absurd and while people may roll their eyes at the usual "no one can play tennis like Federer" it's true. Only he can play that way, because he's a stardust genius who bridged old and new tennis. He was raised with the old mindset and was a large part of shifting the sport into a new paradigm in many ways. And much of his "old" ways (like his choice of racket early on *jesus christ how did he even play on clay with that*) actively held him back. The only reason he could still win in spite of it all was that he was *Roger Federer.*
Who knows how many people ruined their style trying to be Federer, when their bodies could never hope to handle it?
Same with Nadal. He's a madman who runs from side of the court to another (especially in his youth) and loads topspin like almost no one alive. His mixture of fantastic athleticism with fanatic dedication to victory is enviable, but it's hard to repeat. Much of his style is shaped very uniquely to his body, training, environment...everything had to be perfect to create Rafael Nadal. And even then, it was a long shot. But Rafa responded just in the right way to create that. But many kids trying to emulate him will never be able to hit buggy whip shots or even try to structure a point like him.
Now, Novak?
He's textbook.
In theory, even a young child without much talent or time in the sport can construct a point like him. Not as well as him, of course, and with much worse shots...but they can use his gameplan. Return, return, wait for the chance and strike. What makes him absurd is just *how good* he is at those things. He is just young enough to have skipped Federer's awkward bridge era and he can't hit Rafa's weird left-handed shots. But he is dedicated to a simple playstyle and *never ever ever ever lets up.*
He plays tennis in a realm where only two other players can even touch him, but his style is something most players can aim to emulate without likely crippling their style in the future since there is nothing "special" about it. He's just that damn good at it.
Don't get me wrong, I love all 3 of them - but when a young player trying to become competitive pulls out a one handed backhand or tries to become a spin doctor in my local club I take a deep breath. But when I see them lunge and just do textbook rallying, then do a Djokoroar at the end? I'm *so down with it.*
Djokovic pulled a masterclass this season. He channeled his inner Medvedev, playing second-half of the season and let Rafa winning two early Slams with the end goal of touching Federerās ATP Finals record, which to be honest, I never thought he would be able to win it again.
Actually to be honest, Zverevās absence helps him massively because since 2018 heās one of Djokovicās biggest hurdles in BO3 hard court matches (2 WTF and 1 Olympics lost to him). Zverev at his best is hella inconsistent but in hard court BO3 matches vs Novak he somehow brings his best game, always lol.
It's almost the off season and I am ready to shout at Andrey Rublev about how much we love him every single day if needs be. Don't be talking shit about yourself, Andryusha. I will not allow it.\*
\*I am somewhat verklempt over his IG post
I know right, ādidnāt deserve itā my ass, makes me want to aggressively love him until he retires so maybe heās pulling a reverse psychology on us LMAO
Casper is 0-4 in the biggest finals he reached this year. When has this ever happened before? Making this many big finals in a year without a single win?
I guess there's no way to see it in the US outside of Tennis Channel? Except last year some matches showed up randomly on a free streaming channel here. I think it was Pluto?
Djokovic fans are everywhere again because their guy is getting all the recency bias after ending the season so strongly and what do they do? Celebrate their favorite player's amazing achievements? Of course not, they just relentlessly shit on Nadal and Federer instead, not to mention them creating lots of revisionist history about what happened when he got deported acting like he doesn't share any of the blame. Most toxic fanbase of all time.
Anyone who belittles another player's achievements and shits on them because their fav player won a big title or did something great is a POS, whether it be Djokovic, Nadal, or Federer fans, so let's not generalise.
That's all well and good. But Djokovic fans do it far more regularly and aggressively than the other two fanbases, both on here and on twitter. You just don't see Federer and Nadal fans shitting on Djokovic's achievements that often like you do for Djokovic fans shitting on the other two.
I mean I read a lot of comments on Instagram and YouTube by Fedal fans that belittle Novak's achievements, they basically say that Novak is just "lucky" because Fed is old and Nadal is injured lol. Also a lot of them are accusing him of doping after the Paris video went viral. So yeah, Fedal fans can be as aggressive.
It's a small minority compared to the Djokovic fans. Just an eye test on this sub would tell you that. When Nadal won the Australian Open and the French this year his fans were just incredibly happy about those wins for the most part. When Djokovic is winning there are millions of posts and comments about Federer and Nadal losing records and no longer being great and being overrated.
I partially agree, most Novak fans care a lot about Novak equalling and surpassing Fedal numbers, but I think that is because Nole was always attacked by Fedal fans in his earlier days and deemed unworthy to be even compared to the two greats. I can't tell you how many times I've read sentences like "he will never be great as Federer and Nadal" and "Federer and Nadal would never do this" during the 10+ years of my being a fan of his, and I still do read these. It's a never ending cycle, fans will be fans.
>I can't tell you how many times I've read sentences like "he will never be great as Federer and Nadal" and "Federer and Nadal would never do this" during the 10+ years of my being a fan of his, and I still do read these.
That's the thing though. Federer and Nadal fans comment on his character not his greatness as a tennis player. And Djokovic has done plenty of questionable things as a person in his career. Nadal and Federer fans for the most part never questioned how good he was at tennis, especially after he broke through properly in 2011. The reverse is not true.
The moment I come across a Fedal fan comment that question his greatness as a tennis player, I'll screenshot it and send it to you. I'm sure that will be very soon lol
My disappointment for Rafa is at an all time high. He was practicing very well and lost all his matches. I am scared for him next year. With Djokovic and new gen not scared of him anymore, he might not be able to win much. What do you guys think?
Wdym disappointed? Guy had a fantastic season considering he was injured in the first half and became a dad in the second one. We all knew that he wouldn't go far in Torino, it's not surprising really.
We fucking get it, youāre disappointed. Try not taking matches so seriously.
He also said he was practicing well and needs match rhythm. Look at him last year, he played Abu Dhabi similar to how he played here, it was just awful. Then he got a few easy wins in Melbourne, got into a rhythm, and converted it to a win in the AO and came close to getting an Indian Wells title.
Obviously. The people predicting Nadal is done will be right at some point, and it gets more and more likely. That doesn't mean their predictions are worth anything. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. I personally think Nadal will physically struggle to be where he needs to be next year. The amount of times his body allows him to play something close to his best tennis is getting smaller and smaller.
Well when you travel with them you donāt work . Is fritz girlfriend working and badosaās bf - so you give up a lot to follow them around the world . And in their box you have to behave exactly how they want you to. So if you have your own goals itās tough and if they dump you , you have to go rt back and pick up your life ( or hitch a ride w the next tennis player )
Morgan is working. She is an influencer. So this following her boyfriend around the world is perfect for that - he pays for everything, she travels the world and gets more interesting content.
I think it would be a dream relationship. I get heaps of me time, my own life and goals and Iād get to cheer on a competent, hot person doing their thing.
Is Iga single? Yeah, I'll be her biggest cheerleader, go to every match, and consider myself blessed every morning I wake up.
I've dated people whose lives and our relationship revolved around themselves who were not top tennis players
He's definitely a nice guy no doubt but to defeat Novak almost anywhere and Rafa on clay he needs a lot more than just not be nice.
As for ego, yes there is that element to Rafa and Novak. You see it on the court, they don't want to lose to anyone but most of all to players who are ranked low. Remember when Rinky was challenging Rafa and Nishioka in the first set against Novak at RG
>Is an inflated ego mandatory to be an all-time great ?
Certainly an inflated self-confidence, which stems from wins and from playing well but also needs to be there no matter what, otherwise you'll always feel like you lack something to become the best.
Yeah, that start of the year was glorious.
Too bad the ab tear stopped him from winning the calendar slam though.
Oh well, there is always next season!
Do you say Holger Rune or Holger Runeh
There was just a Jeopardy clue about Iga. Icons only

Is anyone going to the Traralgon 25K this week? I've got nothing on this weekend, thinking about jumping on a Vline and getting out of Melbourne
My favourite thing about Zverev is that I dislike him as a person and a player. Absolutely zero inner turmoil about him at all.
I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, I want to go watch a live tournament next year. Travel out of state is possible if it's affordable, but anyone have any recommendations on a tournament to go to?
The Charleston WTA 500 event looks (from afar) like a good time, too.

Does anyone know if that Dubai Tennis League in December will be streamed anywhere? Having major WTA withdrawals and need a crumb

Also Errani is two wins away from being back in the top 100, so that's horrifying
so she'll be in australian open maindraw lol
Uugh. No. I will ban tennis from earth if that happens.
So uh, any off-season plans? Have we kidnapped Van Rijthoven for an ama?
He never replied to me
Hmmm⦠kidnap Van Rijthoven you say
I'm so greedy because I want more tennis right now lmao but also like, players need an off-season. It's already short enough as is.
Yes stop being selfish ( I think the same thing ) lol
Tsitsipas year end no 1 next year
In his no elbow injury era. Somehow avoids Djokovic in every draw.
Pls no!!
He has the tools for it apparently
lol

Should Ruud get the sportsmanship award this year? I can't offhand think of someone else who has played so many big matches.
When's the last time Djokovic have his kids in his box and not win the title š¤
I remember Stefan being there in Dubai
Rafa still the goat. Novak second. Sorry not sorry.
Your insecurity says otherwise :)
Eh. Itās all in play until all 3 have retired, and likely will be for many years after, unless Djoko or Rafa clearly pull ahead.
Casper is 0-4 in the biggest finals he reached this year. When has this ever happened before? Making this many big finals in a year without a single win?
Ons won Madrid, but lost in the finals of Charleston, Rome, Wimbledon and the US Open.
Caroline Wozniacki lost four-five finals in a row until she won in Tokyo. It is possible.
hmmm interesting.
In 2017, Caroline lost Doha, Dubai, Miami, Eastbourne, Bastad, and Toronto Before she won Tokyo, WTA Finals, and Australian Open
Venus in that same season lost in the finals of the AO, Wimbledon, and WTA finals 3 wish she couldāve won that Wimbledon final one last timeā¦
I know people hate the new Davis Cup but I am excited for it tomorrow.
I guess there's no way to see it in the US outside of Tennis Channel? Except last year some matches showed up randomly on a free streaming channel here. I think it was Pluto?
Sadly no

Now that the 2022. season is over, we can all agree that Rafa had the best season with two slams. Here's to many more champ!
He did have an excellent season, at least until the ab-tear at Wimbledon. His early dominance was a joy to watch, from Melbourne to Acapulco.
Yeah, that start of the year was glorious. Too bad the ab tear stopped him from winning the calendar slam though. Oh well, there is always next season!
Guys Iām drunk I love you all

Does anyone know which country will take up the ATP6 slot for the United Cup? Secretly hoping Djokovic signs up since heās gotten his Auzzie Visa.
Who would the top WTA Serb be? Krunic, Stojanovic
Krunic is like, unavailable for months because she ruptured her ACL. I think Danilovic is the next highest ranked WTA Serbian.
Oof⦠:(
Somewhat bummed tennis is basically over for top 70 players. Even challengers end next week o think. January canāt come soon enough.
Yeah. At least the players get some rest.
