The Rant Revival was great. GXD continues to be my favorite host. He's so smart and funny and he let's the game come to him. He's able to ignore Gordo throwing him under the bus and bogging down his stories. The Trader Joe's story had me cry laughing last night. Of course Jake had to screw up the revival but what else is new. I know Junes takes it in the shorts from folks on this site but I think Coast to Coast was fantastic. He is always so prepared for a bit and he truly channels the spirit of Art Bell. Have really enjoyed the campound.

GXD has been a great addition overall but a HUGE addition to the campound. Also I love Junior and always listen to coast to coast. I get why some may think it's a beating, but there are so many funny little one-liners Junior throws in that keeps me engaged. I would be very interested to hear Gordon and Jake discuss the pros and cons of students using AI to write papers. Although it was long ago, I’m curious if Jake – someone who’s gone through the process of putting together a masters level thesis – could provide more insight and perhaps even push back on Gordo’s stance on the issue.

I know a few people who have used it (and one guy who even swears by it) but I've yet to see it put together anything above HS/freshman in college-level writing. (At least not the free LLMs, like ChatGPT) It's mostly shallow, generic info, almost like someone read the Wikipedia article in the topic and is regurgitating information. It does not appear capable of producing a critique/response/opinion, or engaging with material as higher-level research expects you to do. However - and this is a HUGE caveat here - it could be AI is capable of doing better, but we (the critics) are all using it wrong.

It’s plagiarism. Gordo has no good point on AI for writing papers. The purpose of research and writing papers in school is to use your brain to synthesize ideas from various sources. If students have someone else write it for them, be it another person or an AI program, it’s plagiarism. Massive difference between using a search engine or autocorrect/thesaurus in Microsoft word and literally not doing the work of thinking and writing out your own ideas.

This is why I’d like to hear a conversation between Gordo and someone who’s actually had to invest the time and effort required for a post-grad or even undergrad level research paper. I was surprised that he seemed to not understand that the entire purpose of writing papers as a student isn’t merely to prove that the student is capable of delivering accurate information and/or writing with technical proficiency. The point is the work itself — compiling the research and applying critical thinking skills to deliver a coherent argument/defense/proposal/etc.

That is definitely the main argument against. It's not new. it's just repeating what's out there. Granted coming up with it on your own often recycles stuff that is already out there, but at least you have the "journey" that maybe helps you get better at critical thinking
