Let's say I'm more curious than stressed. I was way more anxious for the game against England. They have a tough team that asphyxied other team.
Argentina play a good football but that's were France is the more happy. Not having the ball, suffering and breathing in a sort of gegenpress where some counter attack give the spark we need.
Last match we played was a rollercoaster (only time we were behind in 2018). I think Griezmann will have the role Kante had back then to controll Messi. That will be a hell of a game.
And to be honest it will be a win no matter what. If France win (and I hope we do) that crazy, first back to back in 60 years. If we lost, well that's heartwarming to know that Messi will really have been the greatest of all time with this trophy. Have fun.
I actually feel confident this time. And if we loose the pibes just rock the whole tournament for us. I will be grateful. This of course prior to the match. When it starts my emotions will be completely different hah
If Argentina win I bet it would elevate the entire country, think of the party afterwards!
When England lost the Euro final, I wasn't devastated but it was pretty disappointing that the party atmosphere and excitement in the streets disappeared and people were not singing anymore.
It's a long wait for the next one.
Diverting my mind by planning match day snacks idea on YT, I’m rooting for Argentina 🇦🇷 btw. Needless to say it would be a classic final where each of the team is well deserved. But time till the final is nerve wracking for me
This is definitely going to be a great game to watch, for a neutral. The fourplayers in line to win the golden boot (Mbappe, Messi, Giroud, Alvarez) will go against each other in a 'winner takes all' game.
French here. Not too anxious actually, we won last time so stakes are not so high I guess, plus this French team has an uncanny ability to win even when they are not playing so well. We’ll see what happens, may the best team win and may we see a great competition with lots of goals and drama !
This exactly. Victory can come from everywhere under Deschamps lead. Pavard may even score a decisive goal with his arse.
Messi has a freaking lots of pressure on his shoulders. A bit like 2006 "last game before retirement" Zidane, even worse since Zidane had already won a world cup.
I haven't been able to sleep in two days, even with sleeping aids. When I get a moment to rest I'm awoken by nightmares. Flashes of 2014 go through my head, of a younger me in front of a TV, heart shattered and unending sobs, "not again, not again, please I won't be able to survive it again".
So like any other final essentially.
This was actually my dream final! Initially, I was fine with either team winning. But lately I feel like everyone has been on the Messi/Argentina boat so it's only fair for me to support my team which probably isn't getting much support in comparison outside of France. That said I agree, we have already won 4 years ago but we also only have two stars when many other powerhouses have three or more. I would definitely like to see a consecutive win. It would solidify France era (1998 to 2022) with 4 WC final appearances and possibly three wins.
Being honest, I do think Argentina is in better shape. They have the momentum going into Sunday and a world class player who is more determined than ever to finish off on a high note and seal his everlasting legacy.
I hope we can make it, because France has already made it and 1 WC and 1 final is awesome + Messi winning another one... I don't want to see him so close yet so far again...
No matter what, France has made a name for itself, a name we haven't seen ever since 2002's Brazil.
It's the 4th time France is in the final in the last 7 world cups, that helps managing anxiety.
We will either win, or have our best player get send off for headbutting Materazzi, 50/50.
Different teams, circumstances and couches though, I wouldn’t really too much in the past. This WC has shown us that anything can happen. I chose to believe in Argentina 🇦🇷
I'm contemplating not watching the final at all. As a half Argie (mother's side), I'm emotional invested in the *albiceleste*. The tension was so unbearable in the Dutch/Argie game that I couldn't watch ET & Pens, cleaning the house.
But...in doing so, I didn't feel connected to the experience anymore, and just accepted I had no control. So when I checked the result, I was like, "cool", and that was it. Hence, my logic is to apply the same thing to the final. No emotional-investment = no emotions about it.
Unless....I'm succumbing to the pressure and losing my mind.
As a France fan, I obviously want us to win more than anything. However this time it feels different. Messi has consistently been great for much of my adult life, and if he was to end his international career with a World Cup, even if it’s against my team, I don’t think I could be mad at that in all honesty. It would seem just.
That said, allez les bleus! 🇫🇷
Wrong way to think about it IMO.
If Messi is really the GOAT he does not need all of our wishes and prayers.
If he is the GOAT he will dominate/score and win the final.
Like Maradona did, like Zidane did.
But he won’t, because ‘Allez les Bleus ! 🇫🇷⚽️💪’
Yeah same i wanted Argentina to be our opponent in the final so either way i dont feel bad cuz its either a deserved WC for the most magical player of my lifetime or a fantastic hat trick of WC for les bleus
But you know what they say, jamais deux sans trois! (Works for either team lol)
I'm so anxious... I really want us to win, not only because of Messi, but because France has already won the last world cup... you guys would tolerate it much better... but if you happen to deserve it, so be it then... big hug mate
Just remember that the worst that can happen is Argentina lose and then...what? You go back to living your life and down the road you'll come to appreciate the ride to the final and enjoy watching the replays of all your goals and the games you win. I'm guessing you aren't old enough to have seen your team win before. I've seen one of my team's (dual-national) win two world cups. First time I was a child. Two days after the second win I was back at work doing the same boring job I was doing two days before the final and life was exactly as it was before. It's just a game. It's fun. Enjoy the game, appreciate how damned good your team is but don't mistake it for life and death. People throw out that quote about it being "much more than life and death" but believe me it isn't. My grandfather died the morning of the euros final (which my other country lost) and I can tell you that the result didn't matter to me that day. Just keep things in perspective, use whatever tools you use to manage anxiety and have fun. I recommend muting the half time pundit blather and not watching the hours of buildup though, I find this helps me.
I'm not handling it! I don't know how I am going to get through the match. I was so stressed during the semi-final I actually couldn't watch the start. This is going to be a long few days.
* Last night I dreamed of the final
* I watch videos of Messi
* I am watching a documentary series about Argentina's team (Prime video if interested)
* I picture Messi holding the cup
* Watch more videos of Messi
* Go to sleep
* Repeat until Sunday
Do you know how many times I have heard that when we were facing other teams? France may definitely win, but that talking before the match thing is utter shit.
Oh don't get me wrong. I was just trying to lower your expectations so if you believe they are going to lose and then win you will be happier but if they lose then it's w.e.
I personally force myself to think France is going to lose, not to risk being as disappointed as I would be if I was too hopeful lol. After we scored early against Morocco for example, I was ecstatic and then told myself « THE JOY WON’T LAST LONG THOUGH. MOROCCO WILL SCORE TOO AND **YOU WILL BE SAD** ».
Anxiety? Do you have money on the match? Unless you’re kitting up and going on the pitch on Sunday, you’ve nothing to be anxious about. Excited? Sure. Hopeful? Maybe. Anxious? Nah.
In Argentina, cardiac attacks is the number one cause of death in adults. Ever since I can remember that number goes up by 25% on the month the world cup is played.
Two people died in the semifinals by a heart attack. Anxiety is calling it lightly.
I can't speak for France, but in Argentina football is HUGE. The levels of happiness or sadness with each match are tremendous. The stakes are high for 45+ million Argentineans.
But of course, win or lose, we will always love this WC squad. They've given us so much already.
I think what your argentinian reporter said to Messi was spot on. Win or loose, he has made a mark on people's lives, especially in Argentina. And that's more important than winning any world cup. I hope the rest of Argentina thinks the same.
More pressure is on Argentina.
For Messi, for the finals lost, for the fans...
France just won it, so they will be loose.
Key will be for Argentina to not let a 1st goal in the 1st 15 mins.
If they can avoid that, I think they can win it.
I feel the same way. If France scores first they will play on the counter and I can only see one winner from their. Argentina have to control the match since they will start minimum one more midfielder against France.
Chill man, it’s just sports. Just a bunch of dudes running after a ball. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s like when you meet someone that intimidates you, just imagine him taking a dump. He is only human after all, like those players
Just remember it’s all made up anyway. At the end of the day it’s just a past time that got really successful and became and industry. So don’t take it too seriously, as awesome as it is.
Lmao, the match is gonna be wild. At this point it's really 50-50 for the taking. France isn't as strong as it was in 2018 though, so at least there's that, plus there's a virus wiping out their squad lmao
I'm absolutely fine, we won 4 years ago so it wouldn't be a big deal to lose. If we won however it would be history as consecutive winner in a world cup for the first time since Brazil dit it decades ago.
I'm not anxious at the moment nor I think I will be until the game begins. Of course, winning the final would round up a perfect World Cup for Messi (being his last one) and the so much longed-for "third World Cup" for the country as well, but even if we lose, and despite I'd be sad, I'd still be 100% proud of the team.
The fact that we began the cup losing against Saudi Arabia was a big blow to our hope. Nevertheless the team took the next games as what they were and overcame all obstacles on their way. It'd be a great run for Argentina anyways, and a good ending for Messi in the national team.

If you lose, wake up hungover. If you win wake up two days later hungover.
This is fucking agony

If your biggest problems in life are football induced anxiety, then you’re living a good life.

I hope so, mate. Honestly, I'm seriously considering quitting football. Nothing, not even a world cup trophy, justifies feeling like this
You are lucky you aren’t Ukrainian. I am sure their anxiety dwarfs any anxiety related to sport.
Stop making people feel guilty id hate to live around u
Oh boy, that hit hard. You're god damn right.
I unironically think i'm more stressed than them
Ok thanks
I haven't been able to sleep in two days, even with sleeping aids. When I get a moment to rest I'm awoken by nightmares. Perhaps that is what I have to do... I'm honestly not sure...
It’s Argentina’s year, relax. It’s meant to be and will be.

I can't explain how helpful it was to read this. Thanks mate.
I dreamed about football all night last and I am neither 😫😫😫
I'm not handling it! I don't know how I am going to get through the match. I was so stressed during the semi-final I actually couldn't watch the start. This is going to be a long few days.
I can't take this, dear God.
There's no anxiety. Argentina is 100% winning this. Messi always stands up to the challenge and it is a sure thing that they win tomorrow.

Argentina is going to lose 2-1. There is nothing really to be anxious about now that you know the result.

I had a cardiac arrest on the 2014 final against Germany. So yeah no I'm not excited at all for this.

I'm too overly empathetic.
Maybe get try a new codename. Worked for me ;)
They players are not anxious, they are the ones excited.
Just try to enjoy the game and not the win. Both is a strong team and that's why it is going to be a good game.
I'll try, mate

I consider Argentina the underdog and pressure is split. Remember, France is the world champion, why would it be surprising to lose against them?
It's just a game

Like morroco on Saturday?
Don't be cocky
France won already 4 years ago, so not so worried. Amazing if we do it again, happy for Messi and Argentina if they get it
All I want is to be stable after the match, I'm scared of how it will affect me

Im surprised how fast the days are going by since the semis, I think the weekend is going to be very long and Sunday morning will be eternal
Fast? Days have got 72 hours!
I'm chilling

Lucky you, I'm going crazy
I just hide under the bed until the day comes
